Because it's not real?
I agree with the others, if it goes with the story line, and moves the plot go ahead and add it. If you just want to add it for the publicity, then no.
and what innocent video games are real again?
None. 0,o people play video games to have fun. Watching pixels have sex isn't exactly the purpose of video games.

Creators and publishers should do what they want with it. It's our job as consumers to decide if nudity/sexuality in a game has been implemented in an acceptable manner and to either patronize or boycott said games and "vote with our money" to let creators and publishers know what we want more and/or less of.

Ah, see? Everyone in the Escapist forums are way too 'smarty-pants' and are going to come to the same sensible, logical conclusion: if it serves a purpose, yay. If it's in there for no reason but to sell the game, nay.

That's why topics like there aren't big 'ol balls of fun. No heated discussions. =P

In all seriousness, video game nudity can be way too over-reacted, such as Catholic soccer moms trying to get a game banned for flashin the old virtual nipple. But it can be under-reacted. I mean, a really steamy scene thrown in for no reason makes it awkward when my mom comes in to watch me play. Nothing is more embarassing than when she asks what's happening as the screen darkens. >.>

Edit: If they wanna make a pron game, well, there's a whole 'nother market for that.

I personally don't see a problem with nudity in a game. So long as it is sufficiently rated to ensure anyone who is deemed unfit to view it, cannot view it.

The point and purpose of nudism in a game is down to personal opinion.

When I watched the film 'Striptease' I expected to see tits, I was happy.
When I played GTA and walk into a strip club, I expect to see tits, I was unhappy.

Both were rated 18 in my country. So why omit the expected content out of a game, simply because it is a game?

My favorite quip towards anyone who is talking about sex as if it was a bad thing is "It's as natural as eating. Why don't we giggle and smirk while someone describes how much they liked their breakfast that morning?" The point I'm trying to make with that is that WE ARE ANIMALS, although we are smart ones. Our culture (and I mean both East and West) needs to mature a little before we even think about making any kind of long space trip with a limited number of people. I don't think I've ever known one stable couple (I exclude my high school friends from this statement; we teenagers are physically mature but not mentally mature) that had not cheated (in spirit if not in physicality) at one point, admitted it, and gotten past it. Me and my GF actually get along better because we don't feel tied down and know that we can "be with" another person and not have the other one come after us with a kitchen knife. Of course by that definition, we've never cheated because the other has always known beforehand what we were going to do. Read some Robert Heinlein if you're interested in the theory (I didn't know the man personally so I can't speak for his personal experience). Anywho, in my roundabout way, I'm trying to say that the inclusion of nudity/sexuality in video games shouldn't be cause for a huge media uproar but it is because the culture is still a teenager. Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm on 18 hour sleep deprivation right now so I'm missing large parts of the logic I usually bring to bear in this discussion.

I don't see a problem with nudity, I don't even care if kids see it, the first time I saw porn I was 10. 10! I don't mind if they make sex games, as long as sex is the main point of the game and not volleyball.

Totally acceptable, as long as the game is good and dosent just focus on nudity, unless you into that kind of thing (then your just gross), hentai freaks

I think it's contextual. If there's plausible reason for it, then sure, but if you're just throwing it in there to be M rated, or "controversial" then no.

im going to be completely unoriginal and agree with the idea that as long as it fits the idea the developers are trying to put forth with the game its absolutely fine.

Valve is allowed to do nudity.
They would make a nude sculpture, and not CGI porn.

With something as scrutenized as the video game industry, I think that producers should avoid nudity unless they can handle the body purely as art.

the problem is the publishers can not be let to even think about it because the console makers have banned AO content on their systems they wont approve an AO game on their console thus it can't be published.

Until this changes gaming is stunted in developing further....

I think its fine as long as its tasteful yknow? Idunno if u wanna call it tasteful, but when nudity is used like it was in HeavyMetal 2000 its tottaly cool (granted heavymetal 2000 isnt a game) People just throwing in nudity to attract buyers sucks, cuz then no matter how good the game is i still couldnt buy it cuz i couldnt stand ppl thinking i was a perv.

I hope the next GTA update has a transexual nude scene or a hermaphrodite nude scene. Up the controversy RockStar!!!

Nudity? It's just the human body. Technically each and every one of us came out of those dirty-bits, so why are we so disturbed by them? Answer: Religion.

context is the only thing i measure it by, a nude 'sim' while in the shower is fine by me, but would we really need a nude "american farmer john deer edition"?

also in some instiancs it can be jaring to NOT see nudity when its expected, such as various strip clubs in games, or when you get the 'fade to black' but are still subject to 3 minuts of moaning and flesh smacking sounds like the original fabled or even the witcher.

if your playing a mature adult oriented game, with adult theme's and topics than NOT having nudity or cussing or gore or anything else you would expect to be there is more of a problem than if they just left/put it in, it just draws much more attention too it that would otherwise happen.

i also happen to think that if video games truly made 'adult' games than parents would be ..... encouraged to make SURE their little runts WERENT playing GTA (etc). here in the states even the most hard core AO game (that i could pick up at wal-mart anyhow) i wouldnt have too much trouble letting my kid play, hell i watched worse than that at 14 with cinamax after dark.

i say games NEED adult content to ever be taken seriously as an adult pass time, as long as we censor language, violence, or tits than its forever and allways gunna be thought of as a kids passtime.

still as long as places like wal-mart here in the states are major sellers and they WONT sell an AO game than we wont see many made. its one thing to make a game with popular appeal and quite another to get stors to actualy unbend enough to put it on a shelf. after all their minimum wage clerk flunky might actualy have to make sure that the 10 year old kid wanting a copy of leasure suit larry atleast had his mother with him when he bought it. not too mention all the trouble the MOTHER would cause if her little brat brought it home, after all rather than having to spend time , you know, BEING amother and paying attention to what her kids doing, its much eaiser to get a lawyer and sue wal-mart for corrupting her 'baby'

Nudity sometimes adds to the creepiness of something like how Adult Alma was naked in FEAR 1 and FEAR 2. It wouldn't have been as creepy if she was clothed like the girl in the well. Although Young Alma wore a red dress.
