Overrated: MAinstream games (which is most of the games released after 2006)

Underrated: Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, and others...

and Disappointment: Red Faction Guerilla (it could have been a good game frankly!)

Do you mean DLC Down Loadable Content?
the DLC is pretty fun
Yeah I meant DLC not DMC. DMC stands for deep meaningful chat, take it as a freudian slip. Is it worth getting not on steam for the D-L-C! or is that not really worth it?

Overrated:
Gears of War series. The gameplay was tight, but...something about it bored me.

Underrated:
Pokemon--Best RPG series ever. Not to mention, the Utopia of a ten-year-old is an ammusing and frightening setting.

Halo 3: ODST--Excellent atmosphere...it felt like the video game version of the Firefly episoe "Out of Gas" (I wonder if they sought out the Firefly cast for that reason?), and it demonstrates the strength of the medium.
The series in general seems to get a lot of hate here, despite having great gameplay--which gets polished with each installment, vehicle sections that are actually GOOD, and Forge Mode

Overrated
-Metal Gear Solid 2: people just don't get that Kojima made it more as a post modern experiment than a proper game, a philosophical joke at the player's expense.
Honestly, I'm putting it under "underrated" for the same reason. I didn't like it until I noticed the joke.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker/Majora's Mask--
Often, Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time are hailed as the best 3D LoZ games, and these are fantastic games; however, I love the sailing in WW: it really amplifies the feeling of adventure sometimes lost while riding Horseback through a field, and I love how Majora's Mask turned the entire game into one big puzzle--In retrospect, I wish I hadn't used a strategy guide, but MM was brilliant.

Final Fantasy 9--Although gameplay elements doubling as huge plot elements is not rare in a Final Fantasy title (especially on the playstation), I really like how the villain's big plan is using the source of random encounters to start a war in order to obtain Summons, followed by learning to use a limit break. Doubled with the retro-style return to classic final fantasy, this is easily my favorite in the series.

Knights of the Old Republic 2--I really liked the first one; however, I am in the minority when I say Obsidian's sequel is better. Yes, it had some buggy moments, and a lot of content was cut--something that still has me pissed off at LucasArts. Basically, I thought the characters were better, the gameplay changes that were good, and the story--while lacking a huge twist--was still excellent.

Half-Life 2, while not bad, is really overrated. The level design is awful.

Oblivion is really badly overrated. The only thing it really did right was the guilds. side-quests, and character customization. Pretty much everything else about the game blew.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is overrated. The world was too empty, the AI was too stupid, you couldn't carry enough ammo, and it had no replayability.

Fable 1 is sort of underrated. While I know a lot of people who love the game, it gets lot of hate for all the unfulfilled promises. Playing the game with a blank slate (I heard literally ZERO hype for the game before I played it), it was one of the most fun games I had ever played.

The most overrated game ever is E.T. for the Atari VCS (Atari 2600 to you dadburn young'ums). It is no where near as bad as you've heard. It does have a serious issue with the whole pit thing, but once you learn how to deal with that (and Atari did cover this in the documentation. Twice.) then it's not such a big deal and you've got a cute little adventure game. It's not the greatest game in the world, but there have been far worse on the Atari. Stellar Track comes to mind, although that was a Sears game because Atari recognized how awful it was.

I figure that the E.T thing had more to do with let down. The movie was a huge hit, and the game being anything less than perfect was a HUGE letdown. The resulting hate and scorn just helped to cement it as one of the biggest failures in videogame history. So not really a terrible game, but a terrible failure

Severely Overrated: KoToR. I played it. Found it to be a passable if frustrating (because of Bioware's gods-awful combat engine) RPG. It is certainly not the greatest thing since sliced bread (caveat: I'm a bigger fan of Star Trek than Star Wars. Your mileage may vary.)

Underrated: Hold this space open. Most of the games I'm thinking of aren't so much underrated as obscure.

Overrated: Bioshock - It's just System Shock 2, underwater in the art deco sixties. Even the big twist/reveal was more than a passing nod.

Underrated: System Shock 2 - released the same time as Half Life, which is why everyone skimmed over it.

Deus Ex is one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time. It's been hailed as the greatest game ever by several people. It's getting a sequel next year.

How is Deus Ex underrated?
It may have have been a critical success but, like Okami, it was a commercial flop, selling about 1 million since it was first released, more than Okami but still a tiny amount compared to say Modern Warfare 2, which sold 20 million despite being much, much worse than Deus Ex and Okami.

Over rated- Mario games- Yes I put them all in the same boat because I can. No interest at all for me. My friend has tried to show me the wonder but I just don't care

Under rated- Rise of the Argonauts. I really enjoyed this, buggy as hell but damn good fun.

the DLC maps are really cool, they're like a bunch of floating blocks so there's usually more than one way to complete them. trying to find the fastest path without looking them up on line was where all the fun came from for me. If you're going to go for 3 stars on all of them It'll take longer than beating the single player campaign
so I'd say the DLC is worth it

I don't think the 2008 Prince of Persia was under rated, it didn't get good reviews but to me it got exactly what it deserved
one of the few games that I agreed with the reviews for

Underrated: Donkey Kong 64. It's my personal favorite platformer. No one ever talks about it anymore, and it still hasn't had a DLC release over the Wii, Xbox, or PS3. Probably won't ever, either.

Overrated: Assassin's Creed. A lot of people seem to forgive the extreme repetition. I do not. It's basically a 3 hour game that's been copy and pasted with slight variations to add extra length. The voice acting was atrocious, and the story didn't really bring me in at all. The second game was great, though.

It got excellent reviews but nobody bought it and it's apparently one of those "worst games ever" in the eyes of the community.
