So far, I'd say either Catherine or Dark Souls.
Two totally different games but I can't make my mind up which I like more.
Catherine was just brilliantly original and fun while Dark Souls.... makes me feel like I'm turning into a fan of S&M.
I keep going back to it, no matter how many times it beats me to the ground (sometimes cheap, sometimes not) and simply doesn't give a fuck about the player. It's there to kick your arse and it doesn't care.
I will say though that the bosses are kind of odd considering I've taken down 5 of them with virtually no problem aside from one (Gaping Dragon if anyone's played it and known how annoying it can be) and yet... I still can't handle more than 1 enemy at a time lest I want to get brutally murdered for the millionth time by a crack addicted lizard with a butter knife. Shit's scary. >_>

Oh and, even with how much I love these two games, I know my GotY will be Skyrim.
There's no way anything can beat it.

Space Marine for me.

Now before anyone flames me with 'how could you forget Portal 2, Deus Ex and gears of war?' let me clarify.

Please can we stop glorifying the big franchises, they don't change anything from game-to-game, so they don't improve, let the stand-alone titles have the spotlight, just for a minute, it's what they deserve.
You say: Portal = Portal 2 and Deus ex = Deus ex: Human Revulotion

I say: this [http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110417162658/nonsensopedia/images/4/48/Son_I_am_disappoint.jpg]
I have already explained this once to someone else. I did not at any point say that Portal and Portal 2 were the same game, that is something you have wrongly inferred by sewing together two completely unrelated comments.

Portal 2 is sufficiently distinct from Portal to be considered its own game, but the mere fact that it is a sequel with its own fanbase and pedigree means that it should not get game of the year, because that is supposed to be about the quality of a game, not the dedication of its pre-decided fans or the amount of hype it gets.

Portal 2 was great, it was a genuinely excellent game which I find hard to criticise in any way, but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't original. As soon as you make a sequel to an existing game, as soon as you feel the need to stick a 2 on the end of the title, you have stopped making an original game.

If GotY were about a company's ability to maintain standards and consistently produce good games, Valve would win it like clockwork, but it's not (or, at least it shouldn't be). Game of the Year should be about originality, flare, style and overall quality, not the amount of money you pump into a franchise.

Its October. We still have the Christmas rush when all the big games come out.

Also, ive only played one 2011 game this year. Portal 2. So yeah, that. Unless Dark Souls turns out to be better. Then probably that.

Actually, I did play Deus Ex HR. That game was alright. The boss fights, lack of melee weapon, and sloppy ending really brought it down though.

I also tried a bit of Kirbys Epic Yarn. I may actually give that my game of the year if I buy it and complete it.

Played the Japanese Version of The Last Story. Really good, even though I couldnt understand a word. Might be my 2012 GOTY

Mount and Blade F&S can go to hell. Its a solid game, but the fact I get 1 hitted all the time when trying to go all Braveheart on the enemy annoys me. Ill stick to warband.

And I wont be happy with my decision until I play the Binding of Issac, Bastion, Celestial Mechanica, and Atom Zombie Smasher

So its really all up in the air right now.

I don't have one, I've seen nor played nothing this year worthy of being game of the year and I see nothing coming out this year worthy of being game of the year.

The Witcher 2 for me, no question. Although the graphics demands are rather stellar, the story/dialogue casts its shadow over any recent RPG.

Bastion, though to be honest Ive bought very few games this year- there havent been very many that appeal to me and the ones that have been mediocre, save for Bastion.
I can relate. Bastion was amazing too.

Catherine. Unquestionably Catherine.

I knew Deus Ex: HR would be good, I know Zelda and Skyrim will be great, I knew Portal 2 would be a sensation, but I had no clue I'd fall in love with Catherine so helplessly. I love the way the story propelled me to engage with its thematically appropriate gameplay, it had the best localization of any game I've ever played, it explored its theme front to back, its characters felt so real...and it was refreshingly tough in the right ways!

I haven't played a game with the tungsten balls that Catherine had since Killer7. I'm so glad it paid off for Atlus; their best selling game was a psychosexual block puzzler that deconstructs "love." It was a happy occurrence for those who wanted something bold and new, it's my game of this year, and it is on my top 10 of all time.

I can't remember everything that came out this year, but I guess so far it'd have to be Portal 2.

Though honest, if Skyrim and Saints Row 3 don't finish 1 and 2 at the end of the year, I'll be colossally disappointed. SR2 is one of my all time faves, so all SR3 has to do is not take a step back. All Skyrim has to do is function. If it's a buggy unplayable mess like New Vegas, then it won't be my GOTY.

So far, it's Rage. Mortal Kombat 9 is good, but I can only fight so many times. Gears of War 3 was great, but the story was lacking (as always) and I'm just having a lot more fun playing Rage.

I have one more game to buy this year, and it's Skyrim. That might be tie with Rage.
