I don't think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to do so on the basis that they would suddenly need to learn/relearn a bunch of shit about how to program for other consoles and how to work with other owner companies. There's no way they could keep up polish on their stuff if they needed to do it for three consoles plus PC. Also, nobody else really does the handheld thing anymore which is a niche Nintendo seems to want to hold on to so their design philosophies might not translate well to other consoles assuming they want to keep the switch fully mobile.

I swear this question is asked at least once or twice a year.

I'd be happy with it. I'd also be happy with Sony/Microsoft going multiplatform. But its not going to happen, because Nintendo are doing very well at the moment.

As it stands though, im not really invested at all in Nintendo's suite of exclusives. I have a Switch, but the only Nintendo-exclusive games that I own are Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battles (because it is basically XCOM), and Mario Kart 8 (because arcade racing).

I don't care for 2D or 3D Mario. I don't care for Zelda. I don't care for 2D Metroid. I don't care for Smash. I don't care for Pokemon. etc

So even if they did go multiplatform, I wouldn't see my purchasing habits change much at all.

That check would have to have a metric fuck-ton of zeroes BEFORE the decimal point AND come with a short blade for the requisite seppuku.
That cheap? Man, I'll buy Nintendo for $000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.1 and a kitchen knife. (I can add more zeros to sweeten the deal if necessary.)

I might play one or two more games more than I normally would?

Will probably get my friends to play Smash with me if its on PC.

My reaction would be: Good.

Exclusives are an abomination on the video game industry. I shouldn't need 3 consoles and a PC to have access to all the games available. It's also a type of monopoly, so there's that. This would be one step towards what the video game industry should've been doing in the first place. Once Sony and Microsoft followed suit, actual competition would begin.

At that point the three would need to make consoles that were good on their own merits instead of being functionally identical and the only reason anyone buys any of them is for the exclusives that got locked out for arbitrary reasons.
