This is not a "How did you find the Escapist" thread, do we have that out of the way? Good.

What is your reason for being at the Escapist or more importantly, the Escapist forum. What is it that has made you come here and what has made you stay.

This is something thats been interesting me recently, especially after the Why are we Escapists thread. Basically I want to know what is it that makes you stay here and to a lesser intent, why did you join the Escapist?

Originally I joined the Escapist because I had nothing better to do. At the time I had been a part of the CoD4 community forums for a quite awhile. The forum was always fun but after a few months the forums had began to repeat themselves an awful lot. Thankfully around this time I had discovered the Escapist and soon after discovered the forums. Sometime in December 07 I decided it might be fun to try my hand at a new forum. Eventually I started posting here a lot more and a lot less on other forums and after about 500 posts here I was only ever bothered posting on the Escapist. The reason I joined the Escapist was to fill a gap, originally that gap was between CoD4 and Gears of War 2 however posting here as had some interesting side effects. No longer can I spend time on a game specific forum. The discussions feels to shallow and empty, usually the argument revolves around the guns, maps or play styles. There can be subtle difference in these discussions however they are usually the same cookie cut threads. All other non-game specific forums are usually subject to fanboy wars. Here on the Escapist I have also know many familiar faces and I feel that talking with a familiar face is much better than talking with a complete stranger. My time here has made me reliant on forums where I can easily distinguish between different users. I find that the Escapist does this better then most forums with it's clean cut design.

So basically the reason I'm still here on the Escapist is because I can't find another forum that's as good as this one. I would also be saying goodbye to a lot of people who I like, I wouldn't like to say goodbye to some people. That and the RP section, thats really fun.

So, fellow Escapist, what is it that keeps you here?

It was very quite at work over the Summer and I'd just started watching ZP.

The strict(ish) no repeat thread rules means that the discussion is always about something new and occasionally something interesting!

I'm here for the cookies, a good amount of fellow gamer girls and being able to voice my opinion on topics that really don't matter at all in any way possible.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a few more "I like this girl", "Halo 3!" and "Kneel and repent to your Lord and Savior" threads to tackle.

I have to agree with jim_doki. When I joined, there were plenty of discussions I found interesting. Over the last couple of months? Meh, barely a thread a week with an intriguing topic or subject, just silly polls that don't really mean anything, further an agenda or even prompt a debate or discussion.

Where'd all the folks who were posting new and interesting ideas go?

Honestly i stay around for unforgotten realms now. Alot of people with massive post counts are snobbish and really ruin the forums for me now. Sad really.

It's a good forum. I like the videos as well. The topics are sometimes original and sometimes interesting. I probably came around a bad time though, because apparently it's just getting worse(?) I don't know.

I joined to try and get a ZP badge, although when I joined, the contest had ended *tear*
However, I stayed on the Escapist forums because the guys here just seemed a great deal more articulate and intelligent than the ones on 4chan, Yahoo Answers, Youtube, etc.
And also boredom. That 'Customer is always wrong' thread got me through the holidays sane, albeit with less respect for the general public :D

Joined for the friendly/ not so friendly games banter. That and getting 10,000 peeps to look at a post. Sad but true

Mostly for interacting with the people. I like it here.

Even though we've had an influx of less-than-desirable (I may be possible included in this group), thread-reviving, search-button-ignoring people lately, there are still quite a few wonderful and unique people who, once in a while, make very interesting threads that I like responding too.

Zero Punctuation is what got me here in the first place..
Just watching his video was the reason i was here the first couple a months, but after seeing a good couple of forum topics, where most of the ppl didnt seem utter retarded i eyed an oppotunity to get my wits tested amongst other sharp typists..

So far i like what i've seen, except for the "fishing with cats" topic that totally disqusted me..

I came here because I am an archiver of sorts; I find forums with intelligent discssion that are gaining popularity and count the days away until those forums rot. I make an account when I notice the first signs of forum degradation and make posts in order to get the older posters to respond; it is thrilling to come here every day and find that little bit less enthuiasm in each post.

User Reviews and The News Room mainly. User Reviews keeps my English skills in check and is a good outlet for me to practice my writing and proofreading, and The News Room keeps me up to date on what's happening. I do like a good discussion; it's just that I'm usually a bit late in on them, and after there's been 3 pages of responses I feel like it'll just be ignored. That, and I've now been around long enough to see the same sorts of threads pop up every couple of months, which isn't too bad in itself. It just makes me feel like I'm repeating myself sometimes.

Because 1 forum at a time is enough for me, and I can't be arsed to find a better one.

A lot of the time I'm just throwing ideas out to a large and varied community to get feedback. It keeps me from saying something dumbass on my blog because if I'm out of line someone around here will hip check me eventually. Keep track of trends, see what the mob is bitching about in a game, and every once in a while someone will say something really insightful.
