Did it come down to luck (in my case)
That, only it was worse. Pokemon Emerald on the dual battling gym. Well, on Emerald is is more of a pain in the ass then it is in Ruby/Sapphire. It came down to my last pokemon, down to 7hp, and the batteries in my GBA were almost dead when I finally won and I was trying to save before it died... :S

I once won by one point in MW2 domination. It was pretty amazing.

I also saw this youtube video where this guy was playing Halo and it was tied 24-24 (25 to win it) and he gets stuck with a grenade but manages to headshot a guy before it explodes. Epic.

Rome total war I was in a battle where it went literally to the very last man. It was AWESOME!

I wish I could find that screencapture...
Rome TW is great for those last act battles. I was playing Barbarian Invasion. Me, one Saxon Army. Them, THE ENTIRE SLAVIC NATION.

Battles end, over twenty thousand dead Slavs and almost four thousand Saxons.

I barely had one unit left.

Often happens in Total War games, in which I'll ruthlessly exploit the redarded enemy AI and clinch wins with vastly inferior numbers. I once defended a huge city woth just 17 spearmen left (guard towers do all the damn work).

not a team victory but a victory for me. On halo, valhalla I am killing people like crazy, I get to the enemy base area and get my 15th kill and still have no deaths, all I need to do is survive for a perfection. the whole other team spawns literally right next to me and all open fire, i am running a jumping away when an elite with a shotgun comes out in front of me. I jump over him take the gravlift to a friend who is waiting with a bubbleshield to take me home.

A had a one on one with an Engineer back on the 360 port of TF2, i was a medic, and i beat him.

Also, later on the PC version, it was me, a Huntsman Sniper, vs a Heavy, a soldier, and a Pyro.

I won, without looseing any hitpoints.
That more like a big margin, I mean... they had shotguns right?! It should have been you won with the pyro's flame getting you down to 1 HP. That would have been a small margin.

OT: I was playing WoW when the Lighting boss in VoA just came out. We downed him in our 25 man group with him dying and our only member alive was the rogue at about 10% HP.

Can't name any one in particular, but Ive had a lot of close calls while playing street Fighter 4
That game seems to ooze this type of win.

But for me it was in Halo 3. The game started off 6v6. After 1 min 4 people on my team and 2 on theirs quit, so it was my friend n i vs 4 in isolation. We won by 1, and that was because their frag bounced off a tree branch, and back at them.

Edit: My friend did most of the killing. I was normally the bullet magnet in this fight.

So this guy starts out with one hell of a skarmory, right? That thing sets up spikes and begins to whirlwind the fuck out of my team, making sure I take huge damage every time I send a pokemon in. Eventually I take it down, but as the game progresses, shit gets more intense.

He takes out my togekiss and empoleon. When I send out my tyranitar, it dies, but the sandstorm just barely kills blaziken.

Now, we both have to send in our last pokemon. I got my Lucario, but it's lost some health because of the whirlwinding from before, but I got no choice , so send it out. It has to start the battle with less than a third of its health.

Extremely lucky for me though, he sends out a tyranitar, a pokemon double weak to fighting moves, and obviously my Lucario knows close combat.

I one shot him, and survive with a my Lucario just barely alive.

What is your avatar? i could not stop staring at it.

OT: Ace Combat 6 online. Me and another guy were the only ones left on my team and we were facing 6 other fighters and those fuckers had better planes and weapons. What followed was the most epic 15 minutes of online gaming ever! My teammate died, i went head to head with the last 2 enemies and come out on top

Every boss battle I do comes down to mostly luck, but I like to think that some skill was involved. Can't really name on off hand though...

Hey, I just got off fighting the Elite Four with three Level 43 Pokemon in HeartGold. It came down to my Feraligatr against an Aerodactyl that knew Thunderbolt, and no more Pokemon left on either side. Battle went like this:
Aerodactyl outspeeds Feraligatr so...
> Aerodactyl used Thunderbolt!
Feraligatr loses 60% of its health, so I know he can't take another hit. Lucky I avoided Paralysis. Gotta finish it with this in this next attack!
> Feraligatr used Ice Fang
Aerodactyl loses 70% of its HP. I get no STAB from Ice attacks after all. Should have used Surf. I also forgot that I don't get 4x damage because Rock is not weak to Ice like I thought. I curse like crazy under my breath. But then...
> Aerodactyl was frozen solid!
YES
> Feraligatr used Ice Fang!
YES YES
> Aerodactyl fainted!
YES YES YES

Anyway, what was your closest battle in any game ever? Did it come down to luck (in my case) or a hairline of skill?
You sir, are the luckiest PKMN battler in the world. What are the chances of Ice Fang freezing anyway? Like 10%? Meh.

Mine'd be Sonic Unleashed Wii, I was on the Shamar day stage, and the time limit for S Rank was 2:40:00 and I got to the ring at 2:40:90. That's not hours and minutes, that's minutes and seconds, lawl.

Left 4 Dead.
Only 3 left and everyone hiding out in the barn. Last tank comes and incaps the other two in one hit. I stumble away with about 15 health as the tank pulverizes the rest of the team. I don't have any molotovs. My ammo is drained so I grab the autoshotgun off a dead teammate along with his pills. I unload the entire clip into the tank as he finishes off my last teammate. Once he's done, he turns toward me and takes a whack at me just as I take the pills. I survive and as he's lumbering over to hit me again, he dies. Rescue comes and just as I'm about go board, a hunter lands right NEXT to me. I'm shaking from the adrenaline this whole time so I can't aim worth anything. I shove him away and quickly board with 5 left.

A great many times. But, that's problematic, it's difficult to remember the details on so many games.

So, the most resent one is on StarCraft 2.

Lost temple. 4 ffa.
2 zergs , 1 terran, me protoss.
Zerg "A" fights terran, I fight zerg "B". Terran gets busted fast and zerg "A" attacks me while my most of my army is away. I almost gg'd zerg B, but had to come back. Since units were lost in the battle with zerg "B", I couldn't win, so I used the phase prism transport to reach the lower right island expo. Had to start from scratch, while expanding to the other island(upper left), got attacked and rolled. From scratch again.... fast tech to carriers, reclaiming the just lost island, while the zergs fight each other (apparently zerg "B" recovered). Then zerg "B" lost, and I hadn't got to carriers yet. For 20 min, I had to stall with blinking Stalkers near the prime zerg base, against high numbers of zerg. But the carriers arrived, and in another 10 min it was gg. The zerg wanted to mass ground and use overlords to get to my base and overwhelm me, but forgot to scout and didn't get AA. His attention diverted by the stalkers.

Fighting on BC2, Rush.

Defenders are hammering us, but we manage to tag the final M-Com station.

Having flanked to a decent vantage point as a Recon, I manage to hold off several waves of defenders trying to rush the site, making 9+ kill-shots at excessive range.

One guy makes it through, I have to reposition to higher ground, knowing he's already defusing.

Scope, sight, shoot...

M-Com station destroyed.

Booyah.

Fighting Rico in the gladiator event in Xenogears. I was NOT ready for the sudden jump in difficulty and spent the first two rounds eating shit. I finally won 3-2 (out of 5, of course), and my health bar wasn't even visible at the end of the last match.
