So after a quick and simple "I'm fed up of home I'm going to live at uni" to my boyfriend, I've decided to apply for accomodation at uni of course starting September. I thought I left it too late but seemed fine.

My 1st - 4th choices were the cheap places where you share with people and cost about £1000 - £2500 a year, not bad in my opinion.

I'm just wondering if it'd be safe to take the 360 and what not there with me if I get a double room? As Teeside (uni I'm going to) have a massive games room where you can rent and play games anyway!

And I'd also like to know what you're accomodation stories/ prices are :)

Everywhere accommodation is too damn expensive, I've decided to either live in a box, or try and bag a rich boyfriend/girlfriend and scrounge around their place.

But yeah I'd take the 360, just set it up to some from of elaborate trap involving cages and tigers.

I have a quad. I share 3 rooms with 4 people, the middle room has my TV, 360, a couch, and my roommate's PS3. The two rooms on the ends each have two beds for when we sleep. I've never had any problems except when one person stole my game and lost it. It isn't bad, and at college people don't normally damage stuff.

I'm not going to take my 360, but only based on the fact that with it there I'd never get any work done.

My accommodation's about £3675/year, but it's privately owned so the rooms and living spaces in each flat are huge; if there's any Liberty Living accommodation near you, I'd definitely try and get that (http://www.libertyliving.co.uk/city_list.php?city=Newcastle)

Stupid American has issues reading your dialect. D: Sadface.

Also, well, it depends...I've seen some double situations work out brilliantly, where the roommates became best friends and everything was either agreeably shared or left the hell alone. I've also seen some dorm room situations where, if it was left out, it would either be used or destroyed at the whims and pleasure of the other roommates.

So, my advice? Get to know your roommate beforehand and see if you click. If you do, be sure to set up very clear, strict guidelines about using the 360. And, for the love of all that is holy, if you do bring it, do not piss off your roommate. If you do, your 360 will either be lovingly pawned or made to be the guinea pig in a gravity experiment involving great heights and long drops. :(

Other alternative? Locking trunk. Take it out when you care to use it, lock it back up when you don't. Food for thought.

If you can trust yourself not to spend ALL of your time on your 360 (a mistake I made last year) then definitely take it.

The uni accomodation people should provide an option to insure the thing if you're that worried about it - and it usually works out much cheaper for you than getting it insured privately, should you have to claim on it.

I've just moved into my new accomodation down under - due to the difference in timetable between British and Australian uni, I got about 3 weeks' summer holiday. Fun times.
I'm quite reluctant to open my window here after making the mistake of looking up the local fauna on Wikipedia. It seems there are more things that can kill me horribly than things that can't. Yay.

I would take it but make sure you keep it in a safe place, you might think you know your neighbors and roommates until your stuff comes up missing. But take it and then you and your friends can have some awesome gaming sessions just keep it in a safe place.

I took my 360 and tv etc to university, I just made sure I had contents insurance for everything. The 360 and Laptop bumped the price of the cover up but its worth it if you want to take them.

I rented a private 4 bedroom house in the centre of York (uni owned accomodation was only allowed in year 1) and rent was £3000 a year without bills, roughlt £3500 with. The house was alright, standard terrace house, landlord was alright, left us alone and only really came when he wanted money...his brother was a massive prick and was on a mini-power trip constantly.

Cool :) i'm doing the same. Just finished my 1st year in my games design course at college, starting level design next year, been using Maya last year so should have a pretty good understanding of general design and should be above average at modelling when i get to Uni.

OT: You could always wait 'till you get there, then you & your roomie could pay halves for a 360? that way they're not gonna damage it or steal it or anything.

You're not doing that at Wakefield are you by any chance?

I already have my 360 it's just I dunno if my room mate would appreciate having this annoying buzz in the room everytime I played it xD Or if all the people living in the same communal area as me were all non gamers. That would make me super sad faced xD

Nope, go to kidderminster college atm(highly doubt you've heard of it :p), then going to Stafford when i've finished next year.

So even if your room mate complains, you can just say it's beneficial to your course. There's no real argument against that - unless you're constantly on it.

Kidderminster is where they have that shitty theme park or zoo or whatever nearby, I've heard of it. Why not go to Teeside if you want to go there?

Good idea... I won't be constantly on it, the uni doesn't allow XBL :(

We have a zoo nearby yeah :') aha. And 'cos it's way too far away, got commitments back home (such as a girlfriend) and don't really wanna go all the way up to newcastle. Stafford should be good though :)
You had any/much experience in 3D modelling and such?

I applied for the En Suite silent halls :D

Something in the region of £2800 to £3200 a year, can't remember exactly what.

Should be awesome, if I make it there.

Will be staying in a crud 6 bedroom house thing in my uni's student village when I move in in September. So pricey, quite predictable with Kent I suppose. Then hopefully renting a place with whatever poor sods I can find who I can convince I'm worth moving in with. Taking my PS2 (I have a monitor/tv hybrid) which I will certainly spend way way too much time on, but I want to have the option to write about games in between poetry explication and literary analysis.
