I am so glad WET never got a sequel. Cuz fuck Rubi, who is an even less sympathetic Revy (a character I do not like much either), and comes off as a female version of 50 Cent (Blood in the Sand). The developers seems to agree with me, because even they did not know what to do as they later canceled the sequel. The only way a sequel could work for me is that they, one, get rid of the QTEs, because they sucked. Two: You play as completely different protagonist and Rubi gets killed off by the person you're playing or that she dies at some point. Preferably, she'd be the villain the player would have to kill off. Also, I consider it one of the least interesting games that came out during the Tarantino Grindhouse trend/phase a lot of AAA & AA gaming were doing around that era. It was by that point the trend was wearing thin and was on its last legs.

Literally the only thing I remember about the game is that rage mode made your whole screen go red and all the enemies turned into black silhouettes (which looked cool the first couple of times it happened and then became grating) and also you could shoot while diving and sliding, and the game was like 5 hours long maybe.

I remember literally nothing else. I literally forgot the game existed until I saw you mention it a couple of weeks back.

You know, I played WET, and yet I remember absolutely nothing about the plot.
The plot can be described as "Biatch took my money!", instead of "Biatch took my skull!". Ends on a sequel hook/cliffhanger that will never be followed up on.

The rage mode was just added in to look "artsy" and did not add much gameplay. WET was basically Behaviour Interactive's (formerly Artificial Mind & Movement at the time of the game's release) take on John Woo's Stranglehold with the addition of in-depth melee attacks. Though the melee combat is only deep when compared to Stranglehold.

I remember literally nothing else. I literally forgot the game existed until I saw you mention it a couple of weeks back.
WET is one of those games forgotten within a couple of years and fell in to the dark void of gaming history.

I'm not sure you're supposed to like Revy. She's clearly seriously damaged and acts like a sociopath to boot. The only reason she thrives in Roanapur is because it's an environment where said traits tends to be rewarded.

And while I haven't played WET(and likely never will), "Revy but even more unlikable" is quite the burn.

In a way you are supposed to like Revy, and the Lagoon company to an extent, because they are seen as the lesser evil compared to some of the people they are up against. It falls flat, because she and environment supports the whole nihilistic, sociopath mindset. Yeah, sure she mellows out over time, but even with the development she gets, still not fond of her nor a majority of the cast. When you're cast is composed a slighty different variation of nihilistic sociopath or psychopathic killers and criminals making grand speeches about how everything is pointless (that we are forced to listen to and agree), than what's the point of being invested in any fashion? Especially when you claim things are pointless, but you keep control or doing things, because the "thrill", money, or cuz you're bored. Even Rock becomes a nihilist of some kind. The "nice" variation still does not leave a lot of diversity.

The only characters I like are Garcia, Fabiola, and Roberta. They at least get a bittersweet end to their arc and make the wise decision to leave the shit cesspool that is Ronpaur. Ironically, the type of environment and people Ronpaur thrives on would be its own undoing if characters like Johan Libert, Joker, Junko Enoshima, or Kun Lan set foot in the city. All 4 of them would burn it to the ground and leave no survivors. Though Johan would happily take Hansel and Gretel under his wings. Junko would leave a few "survivors" only to spread despair. And I already mentioned on a different thread if the Punisher ever got involved.

And while I haven't played WET(and likely never will), "Revy but even more unlikable" is quite the burn.
Because the burn is true. Both start with an R and has 4 letters in their names that rhymes. Both have bitchy, reckless, attitudes and dual weild pistols. The only difference being Revy has few "humanizing" moments. Rubi gets nothing, but we're supposed to like her just because she is "bad ass" and "takes shit from no one!".

PC gaming is great and all, and "cheaper" (because that really depends on the country you live in and how often you play video games), but nothing beats just borrowing a couple of discs from your buddy and playing games essentially for free.

I got three games from my older cousin who now plays on PC, and so now I have 4 brand spanking "new" games that I have about a month to finish.

Not exactly, but I know what you mean. The difference technically with borrowing a game is that two people can’t use one physical good at the same time, whereas with downloading it’s a non issue.

PC gaming is great and all, and "cheaper" (because that really depends on the country you live in and how often you play video games), but nothing beats just borrowing a couple of discs from your buddy and playing games essentially for free.

Ah, I have no idea how DRM-free games work. I was thinking actually you meant piracy lol. Care to give an example? Is that how games on GOG work?

As the eldest brother with a ton of siblings, I have always treasured the moments I got to play splitscreen with them. Hell, even just playing while they all watch is really fun.

It's really unfortunate that couch coop is disappearing. Same with couch multiplayer in general (unless it's nintendo).

You can download a DRM-free "offline backup installer" for games on GOG.com. And then sharing it privately could be compared to sharing console game discs, in my mind at least.
Interesting, I had no idea that was a thing. How does that work for online games?

-The Fallout 3 vs NV debate is so blown out of proportion. I don't understand how all it takes is a palette swap and a faction system for people to think that each game was made on a different engine with different gameplay. They're essentially the same game with the same design.

-Cosmetics in games are fine and have been around a lot longer than people remember.

-Red Dead Redemption was average at best

-The arguments against walking simulators are weak. Some of the best walking simulators have told incredible stories. Just because you have to experience to the way the devs wanted it to be experienced doesn't make it bad, it makes you narrow minded.

-Traditional JRPG design is boring and random encounters are frustrating.

-Siege > CS:GO

-I don't care how 'nostalgic' or 'classic' a game is labeled as, if it's not fun to play I'm not going to bother.

Hardly. There are always going to be publishers/devs looking at the most successfull and critically acclaimed games of that moment and churning out a copycat to get themselves some of that pie. Nowadays it seems to be GaaS, wanting some of that GTA Online money. Then there was a period of battle royales, and a brief one of hero shooters, and of MOBAs. Before that, an era of devs trying to usurp the CoD throne. Earlier yet, your GTA3 clones. Somewhat infamously, the age of the mascot platformer. Oh, and let's not forget the long reign of the Open World anything. And so on, and on, a long string of bandwagons.

Give it a couple years and a new king of the hill will emerge, devs will start chasing that dollar, and people will start complaining about too many games aping it.

If traversing the open world isn't fun, then your game shouldn't be open world.
And if an open-world game has fast travel it's basically an admittance that the open-world formula is inherently flawed (which it is).

I understand that, but there have been a tonne of good CoD clones, GTA clones, Mario clones. They also those waves went away or died down, or became so integrated into other games they became standard. Theres still a bunch of half-baked DS clones (or half-baked metroidvanias claiming to me soulslike, but that's a whole other argument) being pumped out and being derivative. Plus, it makes it so games can be made dummy hard without any of the nuance of DS, its become a crutch for shit design.

Fighting games will keep the couch versus thing going but couch co-op is kinda difficult to even do in a lot of games without things like splitting the screen in half or what have you, it kinda works better in a lot of games to just do it over online. Though if you have something like a brawler then sure, no excuses. I actually love playing stuff like dragon's crown offline too. Best synch.
