He's correct, of course, but undermined his argument by including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in his examples, which broke the mysterious character by doing the very thing he complained about: giving him a childhood with a dog and a father and showing us how he got his whip, hat and mission in life (all in one hour of his life, hilariously). Tedious movie. A cowardly retread of Raiders with more forced humor and the dumbest story of the three.

New God of War should have featured a new protagonist, a war god from the new pantheon. Should have kept the linear exploration, brutality, solitude, titties, epic setpieces, narration that moved the story along more efficiently, moments of rage, cinematic camera and puzzles, but provided a new combat system with different weapons, instead of trying to appeal to non-player art snobs. Kratos was completely replaceable. The Marvel tone of the dialogue is so awkward. Gods talking like regular people of the modern day. Imagine Clash of the Titans with all that idle talking. They don't understand the genre at all.

Only to whiny, spoiled, unhappy fans like you. He's your mirror image, aside from the Indiana Jones thing.

His take don't matter much. Both Norse games have both done great across all boards. Jaffe knows this, and chooses to be an ultra biatch about it. Sony, Santa Monica, nor anyone else wants nor wants him back. He knows this too. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so about it?

I never knew Jaffe felt this way this intensely but -

I'm not shocked in the slightest and this is an asshole who never grew out of his "Alpha male frat boy" phase. His is not even really a new hot take. A lot of the other fan boys that are Greek era only fans beat you to it, Jaffe. He's a has been that don't know a goddamn thing. Nobody gives a fuck about you anymore.

The last time I ever thought about David Jaffe was when he said Metroid Dread was a bad game because of a room where you have to break some blocks that aren't explicitly signposted as breakable, except for all the not-quite-explicit ways you're hinted to shoot them (there are at least five). That was several years ago. Seems like not a lot's changed since then (unless the video being reacted to was recorded before that, in which case, not a lot changed between those two times).

Honestly, saying that Kratos should've stayed an unlikeable asshole who just murders everybody even slightly in his path at the drop of a hat when he was never that to begin with shows that he doesn't even understand his own game. Boat captain aside, Kratos always gave everyone he wasn't explicitly out to kill a chance to get out of his way, and he had emotions besides ripping and tearing; after all, he had a wife and daughter, and it was for them that he set off on his journey of revenge. If you don't even grasp that much about Greek-era Kratos, then you have no business saying Greek-era Kratos is the only real Kratos, because you don't know what the real Kratos even is.
