Only to whiny, spoiled, unhappy fans like you. He's your mirror image, aside from the Indiana Jones thing.

His take don't matter much. Both Norse games have both done great across all boards. Jaffe knows this, and chooses to be an ultra biatch about it. Sony, Santa Monica, nor anyone else wants nor wants him back. He knows this too. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so about it?

I'm not shocked in the slightest and this is an asshole who never grew out of his "Alpha male frat boy" phase. His is not even really a new hot take. A lot of the other fan boys that are Greek era only fans beat you to it, Jaffe. He's a has been that don't know a goddamn thing. Nobody gives a fuck about you anymore.

The last time I ever thought about David Jaffe was when he said Metroid Dread was a bad game because of a room where you have to break some blocks that aren't explicitly signposted as breakable, except for all the not-quite-explicit ways you're hinted to shoot them (there are at least five). That was several years ago. Seems like not a lot's changed since then (unless the video being reacted to was recorded before that, in which case, not a lot changed between those two times).

Honestly, saying that Kratos should've stayed an unlikeable asshole who just murders everybody even slightly in his path at the drop of a hat when he was never that to begin with shows that he doesn't even understand his own game. Boat captain aside, Kratos always gave everyone he wasn't explicitly out to kill a chance to get out of his way, and he had emotions besides ripping and tearing; after all, he had a wife and daughter, and it was for them that he set off on his journey of revenge. If you don't even grasp that much about Greek-era Kratos, then you have no business saying Greek-era Kratos is the only real Kratos, because you don't know what the real Kratos even is.

This is the same asshole who said playing God of War (2005) will get you laid. So he couldn't even bother understand his own character from the start, aside from the sex mini-games.

Here's take from Max y'all should hear. It's about Souls design, level design, and the design of Souls clones. Apparently, no body knows how to make action games anymore, so they most of them become Souls-likes. I got it time stamped at 16:14 and the segment ends at 24:00. His take is more so guessing/predicting. I do disagree with him on how "Capcom's action game level design suck and are just empty hallways!" That really only applies to Devil May Cry 5. Even then, it's less sucks and more cutting out the fat people got tired of by the 4th mainline entry. Did we forget about Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil 8 already.

Not really a hot take, but more of an observation. I think social media fucked up my brain when it comes to social discourse, primarily around video games. Like I don't think the younger version of me would've been as abrasive towards someone else's opinion. I was reading @BrawlMan 's reponse to my post on TOA, and was getting IRRATIONALLY angry for literally no reason but just a guy's post. Why? It's just what he thinks the game looks like to him. Does anybody else feel this way?

It's why I don't bother with most social media post and ignore them. Not that I bothered to care much about social media post to begin with. I usually don't have a problem with other people's opinions, unless they're gonna be really big jerks about it or go out of their way to act as if their's are the only one that matters.

Just learn to separate yourself from all that mess, and that not every opinion is a winning losing battle. If I were to worry about every single opinion on that dumb Twitter platform, I would have gone insane long ago. Remember that not everybody lives on social media. And if you're gonna stick to one, just go to Blue Sky. A majority of the people were a lot more friendlier and sane there. I still recommend you don't use it as a crutch though.

Thing is, I stopped using Twitter, but this mindset kinda stuck with me a bit. I'm gonna need to do some more brain cleansing to get rid of that garbage.

Social Media kind of conditions you to take people's words more personally than they should be. And sadly, I think that I have been seeing that more and more with people instead of just going "hey, this person's opinion isn't GOSPEL, NOR should you take it seriously." It's some random person on the internet who you have no clue about what they think and why. Nor should you really care, cuz people tend to twist your words into something more cynical than what you intended.

It's not a hot take because everyone knows this, but it is a hot take because no one is willing to stop.

Social media f***ed up our brains because it removes body language, social and environmental cues, eye contact, and all the other subtle but crucial social signals that allow for empathy and communal engagement.

Eh, I don't blame social media; I blame people's general lack of maturity, common sense, and inability to process the input and opinions of others objectively, or at least from a subjective standpoint that doesn't allow them to get emotionally charged. For every flame-throwing troll on social media there are dozens of people who engage with it competently without incident. I'll borrow an analogy from one of my new favorite comedians, Josh Johnson: social media, like a shovel, is a tool. And just as the person who invented the shovel out of necessity to more easily remove dirt from the ground, another person used it to bludgeon someone over the head; who in good faith blames the shovel?

TL;DR? People are idiots, and generally shouldn't have nice things since the least of us would only use said things to fling shit like an chimp.

I'm sick and tired of people mislabeling or jumping the gun to label an action game a Soul-like. Even when it's clear that the game is not trying to be that. You have these people try to gain some type of clout or dumb street gamer cred and say, "Hey, this is definitely a Souls-like!". Just because a game is hard, doesn't mean it's trying to be like Dark Souls.

On the opposite scale, I'm tired of the action game fans saying there's not enough action games that are of the non Dark Souls variety. Did we already forget about Hi-Fi Rush, Evil West, Sifu, Streets of Rage 4, God of War Ragnarok, and Bayonetta 3? I get everyone has different tastes, but not every game that has come out is a Soulslike, people love to jump on constantly and loudly proclaim. We're getting plenty of new action games coming out either this year or next year. So you're not lost for games to play. Where this rant is coming was after seeing the comments section for Tides of Annihilation's two gameplay trailers. Where people in the comments were going about how they're glad "non-Souls action games have returned!". Even though they never left in the first place.

On the one hand he has a point, on the other he's being a childish prick about it.

There's something to say for keeping the 2-dimensional, impulse-driven characters just that. Revisiting older characters that really didn't have that much going on and trying to make them "grow" can lead to getting rid of what made those characters enjoyable to begin with. Uncharted 4 for example, while making Nathan Drake grow in a positive way also ran into issues that weren't previously there by taking a relatively shallow action adventure premise and trying to inject nuance and character drama into it.

While I don't think the new God of War games run into that problem, they do lack the momentum the older games had precisely because they didn't really give too much of a shit about story or character. But then that formula ran its course with Ascension, so they really couldn't keep going the way they did. GoW'18 was a response to that and it did revitalize the franchise and Kratos, but after Ragnarok I hope they veer away from how character heavy that game was however they plan to continue on with this franchise.

Revisiting older characters that really didn't have that much going on and trying to make them "grow" can lead to getting rid of what made those characters enjoyable to begin with. That's a big assumption and a huge case of YMMV. There is so much wrong with UC4.

I kinda agree with him, Kraitos is a simple monster type of character, he should have been the bad guy for all the games after the first.

I held a similar position at the time before the game came out. For somewhat different reasons, but I learned to stop giving a fucking gave the game a chance. As far as i'm concerned Barlog succeeded and I don't care what anybody else has a problem with otherwise.

Yeah, the only game I really liked in the entire series is the 1st one. Then they just kept giving Kratos worse and worse excuses for being an asshole whereas in the 1st game it made a certain kind of sense.
