Nintendo has that brand, man. It is so powerful.
Sega does have a brand; they're just stupid. They don't know how to use their older heavy hitters, until now. Sega is getting better, but still have a long way to go, and not just constantly rely on Sonic, Yakuza/Judgement, or PSO2.

Wait, PSO2? As In Phantasy Star Online 2? Is that even still going? I like never fucking hear about it. I forgot it was even a thing until just now.

Yes. They got a new engine overhaul and update of the game. I'm surprised you didn't know about it. It all happened last year.

I totally missed that. I want to think the MMO nature made me totally ignore it somehow but then again, I know plenty about New World, Star Citizen and FF14 so that can't be the reason.

This critic be my spirit animal. Kamiya's games from the past and now have better motion and movement than most big budget AAA games with huge graphics and gigantic maps with nothing to do. Though Joe has the most motion in a video game ever. He's on the constant move.

Wow, this is possibly the best nod I’ve seen (and heard; listen for it at :37 for the full effect) -

Love it when devs do this kinda stuff.

It is too much energy to bother defending online any entertainment I like. Too much emotional wastage. There's always gonna be some asshole with astoundingly poor takes and plenty more assholes with reasonable takes worded unreasonably. They cannot be swayed by words alone, and likely not much else beyond a lengthy session in the "brain terraformer" so even trying to meet halfway is destined for failure. Also, on a personal level I am really terrible at wording sentences in ways that cannot be interpreted as an insult, it's a weirdly prevailant bumblefuck I can't seem to steer away from. Ultimately everyone will feel worse off and probably kill themselves. So if it must be said...No more suicides. That is my new years resolution: no more suicides! Though I strongly suspect that goal may have been characteristically dead on arrival.

Highly opinionated jackasses like those, I tend to ignore and stay clear from them (a lot of the YouTube space). I don't mind talking with people over a disagreement in real life, depending on what it is. But yuk yucking yokels like that, you can't get convince anyway. They go so far up their own ass, and think everything should bend to their will, that it's not even worth it. Better they stew 🍲 in their own misery, then to be dragged down with them.

Can't wait for IO's take on James Bond. It may become a HITMAN game with James Bond skin over it but that is all we need
Oh, they're doing a Bond game? Good for them, they 're imo well suited to it.

I have this hot take timestamped. Seraphim has an excellent point about Xbox game pass. It is glorified drm. If you have bad internet, or if it goes out, you won't be playing any of these games. Not without some weird, complicated, jerry rigging, fuckery. As mentioned in the video, Steam got this right years ago. If you're not online, a majority of the games work after you downloaded them (and gotten their proper updates).

That is a spicy hot take.
A lot of people in the States have bad internet so GamePass was really unusable in that state, wouldn't more people be complaining? What's missing here then?

That's the problem: You got many people saying that the app is great/perfect or buying to Microsoft's bull crap. That Game Pass is doing everyone a favor. People are buying into this hype. That's why there are so many users, despite the fact that America has bad internet in a lot of places. The only good thing about Game Pass is that if it's a game you're on the fence about or think you'll never buy an expensive price, it's worth it for those couple of games. Otherwise, if you already have the game, or not interested, then you won't play it in the first place. You don't own these games, or can even rent them properly. Even though most people pay for subscription fee on top of Xbox Live Gold. You're paying all this money, internet included (at which state, county, city, or county living varies in price range), and if your internet goes out or something's wrong, you won't be able to play any of these games offline. Most people don't realize this. Or think these negative is not that bad and try to downplay it. And of course there's your standard case of FOMO.

Everything Xbox Game Pass does, Steam nearly does everything better. Steam was crap when it started out too, but they at least learn things and put effort to fix or add in new features that benefited everyone.

My older brother has Xbox game pass, but even he knows he does not play that many games on it. If you forgot to pay a bill, or the internet goes out for whatever reason, you ain't playing any of those. Thankfully, he actually buy physical games, and most of them don't require online connection. He's got Steam and Epic Game store too.

Well, that's the thing- I mean I am sort of agreeing with you but also am a fan because I had it for a few months, played a whole bunch of games, and then quit.

I'm a little annoyed by like what the streamer you linked talking about how Microsoft doesn't care about customers and only profit- like, we know, you know? Does anyone think they're smart pointing this out?

GamePass as a product is perceived to have great value because it DOES have great value, in the same way that Walmart has great value even though we justifiably shit on it. For 40 bucks I played and completed The Forgotten City, Unpacking, Genesis Noir, Nobody Saves the World, Raji, A Plague's Tale, Edith Finch, Stardew Valley and The Artful Escape. I finally tried my first Halo and Forza Horizon games, tried out Darkest Dungeon and Riftbreaker. I got out of my shell of the same old games and was able to catch up on a nice swath of "indy" type games. All of the same price as my recent aborted attempt to play the bullshit Sifu which I own.

And then- and here's the good part- I quit. The streamer's point about how you have to "remember" when your subscription ends is not true, you can just quit, it's not a gym membership.

My internet is wonky at times, I guess I just got lucky, I never had a problem.

Important thing is, none of these are "important" to me, I would never play a FromSoftware game if it were offered because I cherish being able to go back to them on a whim. It's called the Netflix of gaming for a good reason- I watch a bunch of shit on Netflix that I wouldn't if I had to put any effort or extra money into.

People aren't wrong or stupid to like it, as is implied in the streamer. Perceived value is real value, too.

Mm. For people like me that play games as a major hobby and are particular about what we want, gamepass is a bad deal. It's really more meant for people that are more casual when it comes to games, they're interested in games but not to the point where keeping on top of information about them or dedicating space and money to them is worth it for the returns they get. Those kinds of people aren't the types to go back to a game years later and replay it.

That's fine and all. But it's still a problem of uh oh, you don't have internet, you ain't getting any of these games. And while it's similar to Netflix, at least you're actually getting deals with Netflix. You're paying for something on top of already paying for something else. That's the main problem with Microsoft. Gamepass does have some value, but it's really not much of a value. Unless there is a whole bunch of games you never played or just taking interest in, there's not much value. And the streamer never said people are dumb for liking it (I don't recall hearing that, unless I missed something). Nor do I think the same thing. But if you enjoy it, fine by me. I'm just saying there are still issues and all I'm saying is that Microsoft ain't exactly saviors right now.

I will say that Game Pass is better than PS Now, but there's a whole bunch of apps better than PS Now. I'd still take a steam sale over whatever Game Pass offers nearly any day of the week. I know PlayStation is going to do their own version of game pass, but hopefully you can play games offline like with Steam. Without this weird finagling or trying to loophole or glitch the system.
