And yet after Elden Ring parrying is fucking dogshit and stupid.
I'll throw you a freebie in your anti-parry rant: Parrying in Rushing Beat X sucks, and you really don't need it. You're not forced to use it, but the way it's implemented is very situational, can be finicky, and the damage is not even worth it. Especially on bosses. Dash canceling and combo juggle canceling (the thing that is heavily advertised) is way more viable and practical. The devs at City Connection didn't even bother putting in a training mode, so there is no real way to practice it, and the best you get, is a digital manual telling you how to do it.

Having things in games that are there but not well implemented is just going to be more and more common as AI practices take over software engineering, I bet. It will be harder to deny the executive who insists on putting things in games because it's "easy" now.

Yeah, and I'll be going out of my way to not play those.

I won't have to worry about City Connection doing that. As much as I don't like the parry in their recent game. It's clear the people developing this, and funning this game, are huge fans of the classic Super Nintendo brawler franchise. They have clear heart and dedication, which is why I still like the game despite its issues. At least it has style in and a look to it. Something most large Western AAA games are lacking.

So I was bored, and decided to play Broken Arrow, and since I hate multiplayer I decided to play against AI. On wave 15 the AI nuked me with a Tu-160. I still won, but it was annoying that despite having WeMod cheats on(I didn't feel like being a tryhard) it bypass my shield, and damaged my units.

And they didn't even use a cruise missile... They should have done that instead of a bomb. If your going to escalate at-least do it well.

Another parry rant, sorry not sorry:

I started a new Demons Souls run. Parrying is logical, intuitive, makes sense, and feels good. And I'm not even playing some kind of parry-reliant duelist character, I'm playing as a mage. But I can parry on certain enemies and certain circumstances as a part of my toolkit, and it's good. And yet after Elden Ring parrying is fucking dogshit and stupid.

I know I know it's my stupid issue I come back to but I can't help it. It just really struck me today.

(This is strictly about 3rd person action/adventure games which is my bread and butter, I'm not talking about other stuff)

I’ve only tried to parry here and there with a knight build, and decided it’s strictly for masochists or the “ultra hardcore” gaming crowd. My high point with it was being able to stun bosses like Malenia and PC Radahn a few times, but nothing consistent enough to win the fights. I think the Carian parry was neat with it giving you Glintblades in return, but the reward in general for parrying in later Souls games isn’t worth it imo. Like damage wise it’s better to just wail on enemies. It’s more useful in crowds for the few seconds of I-frames during the riposte animation.

I've seen some reviews say Rushing Beat X has an unfitting soundtrack, but I heavily disagree. While levels are bland looking, all of the songs fit each theme a stage is going for. Certain more than others, but none of them I would consider bad songs. There are a few catchy tunes too. RBX certainly has a better soundtrack than the first game. It's true Rushing Beat Ran and Shura have much more atmospheric soundtracks and songs by comparison, but there are moments where they rock out no different from X. Though Shura's soundtrack is much more serious, because of the dark story lines and multiple path levels.

The PlayStation 5 is a good console.

OK look- we're all shitting on Sony/PlayStation and they fu**ing deserve it! Prices, long game dev cycles, their whole live service clusterf***, and all console ecosystems deserve condemnation for charging for online play. You don't have to tell me they suck, I know and I agree.

But...

Just in and of itself as a value proposition for an entertainment device, the PS5 is awesome for a certain type of player.

First of all, it plays PS4 games. The Last of Us and Bloodborne are generationally brilliant games. So between PS4, PS5, and the available cross-platform games, a person who acquires a PS5 now has enough premium gaming entertainment to last a decade, even without subscribing to their stupid PS+.

Sony has their type of game they're known for, and I understand it's not for everybody- the "cinematic" single player game. The "movie" game. The pretty looking story games that are build primarily around comfort and ease of entry. That's why I say a certain type of player. Horizon, Norse God of War, Lasts of Us, Spidermen, Ghosts of Japanese Provinces, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted. Anyone who doesn't care about that probably shouldn't get a PS5. But for those of us that like these kinds of games either primarily or as a part of our gaming diet (I, for one, enjoy digging into one or two per year), the PS5 is THE thing.

One big criticism of PS5 is that there are no games. I just... disagree? I guess we're talking about pure exclusives. But I would say Demons Souls remake and Astrobot, two wildly different best-in-class games already offer the console's unique value proposition. Factor in the games that got ported to PC and that's a whole world of big excellent games and are part of the value since most people don't have gaming capable PCs. And this is what I mean- if a person wants to buy ONE gaming device, the PS5 is a perfectly excellent choice.

Now I'm not considering sheer price and the upcoming price upgrades is the reason for this post because Sony is now turning what I think is an excellent product- contrary to the gamr opinion that PS5 is a "failed generation"- into some luxury item and it's a shame.

If someone today were to ask me for advice on which console to buy and I figured they'd be interested in the kinds of games Sony specializes in and they don't have some super space age TV, I'd probably tell them to find a PS4 on ebay so they could play the firsts of each Spiderman, Horizon, God of War, Last of Us, Ghost of, and of course freaking Bloodborne. By the time they get through all that maybe they can find a reasonably priced PS5.

Note also I'm just talking about the regular PS5. Not the Pro, which is stupid, not the subscription service as I hate them all, not the PS Portal or the expensive headphones or VR or any of that crap. Just the actual normal console, with or without disc drive.

Related: people need to chill about the Pro. All these crazy stories out there about people trying to get Pros because of the price hike- I dunno, how many people actually would benefit much from it? I think the "better" version of the same console is some bullshit and I just don't feel sorry for anyone with a PS5 trying to get a PS5 Pro.

I don't regret buying my PS5, but I didn't have a PS4 so that's mainly what I've used it for. I still only have 3 PS5 games. I'm interested in getting Astro Bot and Expedition 33, but they haven't had a good enough price cut yet.

To add onto this point (as a PS5 owner, I agree that it is a solid console), if the PS5 "has no games" because it generally lacks in pure exclusives...how many games does the Xbox Series X/S have? Because pretty much every "exclusive" on that console is also on PC, because Microsoft.

When it comes to consoles, I'm happy to exclude PC from the conversation. I feel like PC is kind of its own thing in gaming, like mobile. And, sure, one can have a gaming capable PC instead of a console, of course- plenty do- but I feel like that's a different market. A PC gamer was probably never gonna buy a console. A typical console buyer will likely choose one and ony one because, you know, money. I see the PS5, XBox X/S, and Switch 2 and competitors.

So, to re-ask your question and answer it my way- what are the XBox exclusives?
Gamepass. Not a game, but... gamepass, that is the XBox exclusive, and its true value proposition. As I've said before in previous hot take posts: if someone asked me for a recommendation for the easiest cheapest way to get the most games to try out and they're using a normal TV, and I have no reason to believe they'd miss the Sony movie games, I would say to get an XBox S and a Gamepass subscription.
The actual games? Forza and Microsoft Flight Simulator are the only ones I can think of that matter and have unique gameplay and passionate fanbases that would lock people into the platform.

Yeah and at the risk of repeating myself, I totally understand someone with a PS4 and a modest TV/monitor looking at the PS5 generation and giving it a big MEH. Like I ain't out here telling people to spend money on crap they don't need hahah. I think it's very possible that if it weren't for the Demons Souls remake I'd never post any of this- my thoughts are combination of me replaying it and looking back on how wildly I disagree with FromSoft fans about so much, and the recently announced price hikes that piss me off so much but I'm sure we all agree about that part.

I literally got my PS5 in 2023 to play certain PS4 games to run better, and for Dead Space Remake, DMC5SE, and Rift Apart. And of course, plenty of japanese games I'm interested in. I'm not here to judge. I got exactly what I was aiming for.

If I remember correctly, there are still more people who game on PS4 than PS5.

I got a PS5 as a birthday present from my sister, and before that I was looking into getting one to play my PS4 games because I had a base PS4 and never got a Pro. Since then I've picked up a few games that are exclusives (Ghost of Yotei, God of War Ragnarok at the time), others that didn't run on my PC for one reason or another (the remakes of Dead Space and Silent Hill 2), and anything that was just on an extremely good sale at the time (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth). Also been nice having a Dualsense controller I could just plug into my PC once my previous controller bit the dust.

Probably wouldn't buy a PS5 Pro or PS6, especially not now, but I've been satisfied with my PS5.

Part of me is hoping a PS6 doesn't come out for like another 10 years or if it does, it tanks. Same for XBOX Helix. I'm a hater!
PS6's announcement has been pushed back to near the end of 2030 from what I heard. Helix, I don't know and could not give a fuck.

I’d definitively say the same thing about any of the PS5 skus.

Another way of saying PS5 versions. SKU=Stock Keeping Unit.
Stock Keeping Unit... Hmmm, nope, I've never heard that term and still can't see the relation to what I said. Is it supposed to mean the console or the game disks?

How you've never heard of this term beforehand is beyond me. SKUs have a happy have been around for a very long time. Not just consoles or electronics.

Mario Galaxy film is peak video game to film adaption, along Sonic 3.
