Not my take exactly here, but Nick has a point and talks about additional content single player that can make the game last longer and ease new players in.

I would never wish death upon a game, but I kinda feel like it might be too little, too late for Marathon. Even if it does end up with a steady fanbase, the damage of Destiny 2's cancellation has already been done, and it was probably far worse for Marathon than any update could be.

• Nier Automata
• Oneechanbara Origins
• Street Fighter VI - Play their arcade modes or bond with them in World Tour mode. They got some deep stuff going on.
• Hi-Fi Rush - Even though Chai is the main character, none of the female characters who play huge supporting roles are written poorly, nor the men either.
• Both Norse GoW games. Yes, Freya can be up her own ass at times, but at least she gets called out on it several times in Ragnarok.
• Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei.
• Alan Wake 2
• Resident Evil 8 and Shadow of Rose DLC
• Resident Evil 9
• Silent Hill f
• Celeste
• Sayanora Wild Hearts
• Gris
• Assemble With Care
• Eliza
• 1000XResist
• Penny's Big Break Away
• Signalis
• Crow Country
• Double Dragon Revive

Sounds like some people have only been looking in the one direction or blinded by hate and not giving games an actual chance, and rely only highly dubious second hand opinions. Writing of female characters wasn't perfect back in the 80s-2000s either, and many cases (not all) worse than now. Women were either treated as sex objects/eye candy/needing to be rescued only, or thinking making them total assholes as being tough was the only way to go.

The whole panic about all these games coming out in September is a problem only for games reviewers and critics. Very few actual people want to play every new game all the time, most of us have a couple of genres we're into.
I think this coming September is cool. I like that there are four games coming out that month that I'm almost certainly going to play at some point (Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, Wolverine, Onimusha), though probably only one or two in actual 2026 and the others later. And I guess my hot take is: that's actually good?

All these games releasing end of summer. Kinda lends some credence to anyone acshooally believing GTA6 will release by year’s end. I guess the closest litmus test would be if we get a gameplay trailer by end of summer, like with RDR2.

I've thought about going the "ignore" route, but it almost feels like a "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" scenario. I'd much prefer to know what depraved ideas his persistently dissatisfied mind is disseminating. Why? Excellent question; I have no clue. It's like a bad smell or a sore after biting your lip: you could easiiy open a window or stop touching the injury with your tongue just to see how badly it hurts, but the human condition mandates curiosity can often win out over sanity and reason.

Oh, I get it, don't get me wrong. It took me much longer to do than it should have, because it really was fascinating to see how long he'd linger on the smallest of details and continue hating something for existing and everyone around for allowing it to exist and not hating it as much as he did.

As funny as it is to laugh at Zeke, here's a video game hot take as opposed to an Escapist user hot take:

I genuinely don't mind getting help with puzzles from NPCs, particularly in games with character-driven stories where they realistically would try to help, as long as I have to press a button to ask for it rather than simply being told the answer after a certain (arbitrary, hidden) amount of time. The Uncharted games are actually good about this, since the solutions are drawn in Drake's diary which you have to open to see. More like that and less like God of War 4 (which I otherwise really like), please.

If there's a takeaway from the David Jaffe Situation(tm) it's probably that games are made by teams of people. You can bill yourself as an auteur all you want, but unless you're actually making an entire game by yourself like ConcernedApe, there are other people who have creative input, and that matters. Because when an auteur goes off on their own, the odds are worse than 50/50 that they'll be able to make something with a brand new team as good as what they made with the old one.

Jaffe, Keiji Inafune, Glen Schofield, Yuji Naka, John Romero, I could go on but I think you get the point. And while there are examples of the opposite (Koji Igarashi for instance off the top of my head) the difference is probably that Igarashi wasn't high on his own supply the way the people I listed before were.

Yeah, these fools and their sycophants seems to forget or think they'll be the exceptions or not be like the other guy. Thinking "it'll never happen to me!".

The same applies Shinji Mikami and Suda51. Both men know they can't do everything alone and are not a one man show. Both have admitted this but especially Mikami himself. Suda51 never left his company (he has been there since at least the late 90s), but he's pretty much a CEO at Grasshopper now, and still wants to make fun and weird games, and let other people in the company take a shot. Suda and Grasshopper broke away from Tencent, so they have more than enough finances to support themselves.

I don't know how much the Ingredient quality of UK's Domino's Pizza Branch is, but in the US they are by far the worst chain pizza place. Papa Johns, Pizza-hut, and local places all beat them. Not to say I like western developers who live in countries with a high GDP-per capita nominal and thus were the main push for games to be 69.99. I will still try to get this game like I brought Assassin Creed Shadows which everyone hated, or various other games with middle age woman, but western games in my opinion should have less people who consult games like Sweet Baby Inc they are already budget constrained by the high wages of US, and European Games Devs. If they want a more liberal story they could just hire competent writers who write more liberal storylines.

...This is ONE game in a series where you have been playing as a burly man's man, featuring his already established wife in Valhalla doing her fucking thing of being a badass frost giant lady, as established in lore. Get over your fucking selves and deal with the fact that ONE game having a protagonist with tits in a series is not going woke. Maybe they are just trying to build on the lore that they've been establishing over the past two games that you didn't pay attention to because it wasn't frowny face god slaughtering.
