If I was going to pay someone for videos and the such I'd rather do it through their own site rather than Youtube and know that the money was going entirely to the content providers. Like if LRR started hosting their own videos again I would probably throw them some money and watch them on their site. But for a generic youtuber I'd probably just unsubscribe if they wanted a subscription or see if their videos were elsewhere on the web.
Maybe I would tolerate it if there was an option to choose how much money goes to Google and how much to the content provider like the Humble Bundles. Maybe if Google started paying taxes I'd change my mind.
