YouTube has become an ungodly pile of awfulness, just why, Google, why?

We all could tell that YouTube went downhill ever since Google took over and began changing it, but the most recent update seems to be trying it's hardest to steer people away from the site for good, for instance, it has hashtags now. Yeah.
[The changes only really apply to the comments section btw]
But yeah... just have a look... my eyes...

On a related note, the Escapist seems to have updated it's look slightly, but that seems to be quite good, other than the big Xbox One exclusive square, which when you think about this communities opinion of the Xbox One, seems a little odd.

They thought it would be a good idea to delete my avatar, subscribe me to channels I don't want to see and remove my inbox so that I literally have no way to replying to my comments and sending messages to my YouTube friends.

Oh, but they have a cutesy little bell creature so I guess that makes it all okay. (sarcasm meter explodes and pierces somebodies eye)

Now you can have all the wonder of virtually being forced to use Google+, which also changes the layout of the top bar, making it clunkier, and in need of more clicks to get to the stuff that you use for... reasons.

It's so fucking horrible. Ever since they incorporated this Google+ crap, it's been increasingly shit on an unbelievably rapid rate. If it wasn't for the fact I enjoy a few LP'ers on YouTube, I would have stopped using it long ago.

It's stupid, and they're forcing it on everyone using "ending trolling" as an excuse. It already automatically filtered a bunch of normal comments as spam on one of my videos

There's moderation tools that will blacklist words or users from commenting on videos, which is good in theory, but it will only mean that you and anyone else the uploader disagrees with will be prevented from commenting, only what they agree with can be seen.

Worse yet, it gives preferencial placement of comments based on the number of subscribers of the one posting to "encourage conversation", when really, google is pushing them to the top to get more views so they can drive ad revenue.

So between your comment not being seen to begin with and being blacklisted for an uploader not liking your dissenting opinion, commenting on youtube is becomming pointless

The stupidest part is that they still haven't fixed all the extra whiteness on the screen if you have a large monitor.

I mean fuck, that shouldn't be a difficult thing to do, to center the stuff, but fuck me I guess

Large monitor? I'm on a laptop, and with higher than default zoom half the fucking page is still white.
Just... why?

Anyone else have the bug where a video won't buffer, only stream? I used to let a video load entirely before playing it, but now I can't do that, regardless of how good my connection is.

This. I tried their Google+ integration and hastily reverted as soon as I figured out how. Whoever thought such a thing was a good idea needs to be fired pronto. It was such a ridiculous clusterfuck having to alternate between multiple accounts with absolutely horrific navigation. It also removed my custom profile image that I deleted from my computer years ago, meaning I'd have to remake it from scratch.

The worst part is that I know it's only a matter of time before they force the change on everyone, just like they've done with new layout appearances in the past. I'm seriously considering abandoning my Youtube profile completely at that point. I'll just bookmark my favorite channels and keep watching them anonymously.

iirc, that's not a bug, but an intended feature.

They deliberately made videos buffer only a short way ahead, instead of all the way to the end, to save bandwidth.
Because most people only watch the beginning of a video, before closing it. And on a fast internet connection, it was downloading and buffering the ENTIRE video, even if the user didn't watch it all the way through (and it wasted all that bandwidth, and chewed up people's data caps, if they have them).

I can more or less confirm this is how it works. I have a bandwidth monitor on my PC and youtube videos very clearly transfer in chunks as you're playing and will simply NOT buffer if they're paused.

Great... now you NEED a google+ account, linked with your youtube account, to even be able to comment! Not to mention the inbox now being hidden in your video management page. As in, it takes an extra click to get there compared to before. The way the comments are organized now is total crap as well. God, how does google not understand that google+ is NOT going to happen? Well, screw them really. I'd rather not be able to comment or see my inbox (when I try to access it the site goes into an infinite 'redirecting' loop) than link my account and having to deal with utter crap. The only reason I'm still keeping my youtube account right now, is to more easily keep track of my subscriptions. But if they make one more change for the worse I'm deleting my account entirely, relying on bookmarks instead. -.-

I am now hoping for a new video site to gain popularity... One that's simple again. Just a simple search, list of video's, and a no bullshit video player. Okay, being able to pick resolutions is nice, but the rest can be left out for all I care. But alas. So far no such video site has shown itself yet...

The Google stuff is annoying sure but Youtube comment section has always been a vile cesspit of trolls and plain stupidity, some hashtags couldn't somehow make it even worse.

Videos won't load, resolutions won't always change, I can't watch anything above 480p, videos stop playing randomly (even when the majority of the video is already loaded)

Yes, it is bottom-of-the-trough, drop dead terrible.

I sincerely wish there was an alternative, but youtube on it's own was already so big that it crushed any and all competition and now that Google is behind it we can rest assured there will almost certainly never be one.

... well grease me up and call me Willy. I went looking for the inbox a number of times but couldn't find it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I wonder if the guys who made that particular change also keep their car keys in the fridge, so warm metal doesn't touch cold metal and potentially warp their keys, making it impossible for them to ever start their car again with that key? And because they very last thing they do in the morning is open the fridge to make sure nothing is sticking out and keeping the door propped open, so of course that's a great place to store keys, and as long as you always check the fridge before going out you'll never forget your keys?

I downloaded a Chrome extension that disabled comments. I rather not have a comment section than deal with the mess that they currently have.

Hooray, now I know where I inbox is!

*looks at comments*

Hooray, I have no idea how to reply to things anymore!

...

Okay, no, that might legitimately be a good thing.

So THAT'S where the inbox went.

Meh, I was just going to youtube.com/inbox to get into mine.

So now you can't even view the comments that people are replying to. You used to just click "show comment". Now all it says is "in reply to" and if you click that, it just opens up another window on the same goddamn video. And it still doesn't take you to the comment!
