YouTube has become an ungodly pile of awfulness, just why, Google, why?

I was basically just paraphrasing those 60's infomercials about how you should and shouldn't behave, where one guy was essentially the poster boy perfect individual while the other, who did everything wrong was a terrible slob or something similar.

How do any of these come back to my ISP? I'm legitimately curious. There are times when it DOES work fine, but these come and go in stretches. If only the audio/video starts playing alone, I don't know how that could possibly be linked to anyone's ISP, but you seem to be an expert so please, do tell. Also, I don't know how Youtube automatically blocking off 1080p, 720p and 480p int he middle of a video could be anything but the shittiest design choice in the whole of humanity.

Also, while I've never touched WoW, this and that are two different things entirely. You're talking about a patch or maintenance, I'm talking about the thing not working for stretches at a time, all stemming from newer updates, none of which I have noticed have been fixed.

You give different facts to change the argument. By the sounds of your original claims an upgrayed in ISp would solve the problem. You make it sound like youtube it garbage for OCCASIONAL interruption of service, thus comparable to other such claims like patch day complaints. It's a nonsense argument if you consider the age of the internet and cost of the website. Hell people complaining about patch notes are atleast paying money to complain.

If Google is your problem... Youtube is a free service providing you have internet. It would cost roughly a quarter billion to make something to even rival it. Nothing can cost that much without corporate control, like google or not, it or another corporation will always own such gigantic websites.

The website for signing the petition is a trust worthy one, right? I signed my personal info so am just curious.

Besides that, I do hope youtube gets rid of Google+. My Chrome already does everything for me about what options I want on youtube due to a Youtube Plug-In like centering the video, making the side videos disappear so it won't slow down my video, ect. I don't want to be forced to Google+ to comment or see comments.

I agree the changes have been useless and broke the system. But they are just trying to find their bearings. They should just allow there to be separated Google+ and Youtube system. They want to be google+ which isn't that good really.

The problem is, it's simply too difficult to step up to compete.

The amount of servers, bandwidth and computational power required is absolutely absurd. For reference, as "small" Google data center has around 45,000 servers in it. Some analysts have speculated Google has more servers than IBM, Apple, Intel, and Microsoft combined.

Quite frankly, if I wanted to start up a youtube competitor I couldn't do it. Even with 100 million dollars in investment I couldn't do it.

Well they bought a old paper factory from Finland and filled the main hall with servers. That is about 1300x1000x20m of servers.
Yeah I know it is impossible to compete against their basically ready build infrastructure and networks. But that is the issue, they can do what they want because there is no fear that they lose their users. Who would google lose them to? No one.
It is the same thing microsoft was in for the longest time, no one was competing them in office computer OS market. But now days companies have Macs, Linux. Consoles are a great success amongst gaming population, Steam amongst PC users, soon there is full Linux support on games, SteamOS.

Microsoft tried to compete against Google with Bing, which turned in to more fail than anyone could imagine. MS had a change but fuck all game out of it.

If the biggest server companies internationally would stack and go against youtube they might have a change.

I hate using Youtube now, and I have given up trying to comment on videos now as it is just not worth the hassle. I remember that Youtube was one of my favourite sites that I used to frequent, but that has since been superseded by giantbomb and here. It's only certain lets players and when I want to watch Penn & Teller: Bullshit! that gives me reason to still go on youtube.

Please tell me how to get rid of Google + from your Youtube account.

Sure thing man.

1) Go to youtube.com

2) Go to the top right and click the little black arrow next to your Avatar.

3) Go under "Youtube Settings" on the left side of the options, because the right side is ALL Google+ stuff.

4) Where you see Account Information, there's an option that says 'Temporarily disconnect Google+ page, and use your YouTube username'. Click on it.

5) Press ok. It'll ask why. Say whatever reason.

6) Congrats. You've got rid of your Google+ from your Youtube account.

Sadly, it'll hassle you to update sooner or later just letting you know.

There should be somewhere in your account management where you can disconnect Google+, I did that the very second I saw it was an option.

The downside is that you won't be able to comment or send any communications through YouTube without a Google+ account. Which affects me a lot given that I'm very active within the comment section and talking to (mostly) rational people.

To all folk saying youtube is shit: don't go there.

In theory yes, that would be the solution. In reality though, there's no competing video site which has anything like the variety of content that YouTube has, it has such an effective monopoly on the online video market that a boycott would only be feasible if one was willing to forgo watching a good deal of content. I for one find that while certain parts of the site are horrible to use, such as the profile and the comments section, the videos themselves more than make up for that. That doesn't mean we shouldn't complain about the parts which are crap though, especially those which were better prior to Google's updates.

a Monopoly is something really hard to claim on the internet, there are other sites like nicodouga and Vimeo which also supply video content, and since all three of these sites provide their service for free its a little silly to bring monopoly's into the picture.

also i wasn't suggesting a boycot. I was simply stating that if youtube is really as bad as you all say it is now you should just stop going to the site because getting free videos from around the world is not worth it if you have to put up with their mandatory comment section. If this isn't the case then what you all are doing is new-gui-bitching which means in 3 weeks all the complaints will stop and next time they change things around we will get to have this same thread all over again

Isnt it great !!! its working just like they planned it Its either our way or the highway !! controlling arent they? if i wasn't mistaken i'd say that the NSA is part of it, like many of you i was suckered last night by a little window saying merge with Google+ or suffer not being able to comment basically except our stuff or else now during all this crap i had a hard time understanding my Youtube account and it got screwed up in the process of me trying to understand all this hogwash they are inflicting upon us i got angry and deleted my Youtube account but got it back but then it said that wierd error because i made several youtube channels i wanted to delete the useless ones, the error was "you have created this channel or either have deleted another recently please try back later which i found out will be maybe a week ohhh and it changed my Icon picture and then it gave me a warning about my photo being pornagraphy but i put the photo back on Google+ because i am Oneangryguy i read up the forum somebody else got a warning about a comment, yeah Google keep up the good work because soon Youtube will be WORTHLESS !!! oh yeah still have to find the inbox somewere in the video section, so folks enjoy stuff while you can because it doesnt last forever.

Didn't know patches happened on a daily basis.
And what different facts? I didn't say OCCASIONAL, I said it comes and goes in streches. Every day wouldn't be considered occasional.
And I don't understand how an ISP upgrade would solve Youtube changing the video settings on it's own without any input from me. I also don't understand how my ISP could bug out a video on it's own. Hasn't happened on any other sites either.

And for the record, I used to have a worse ISP and these problems never cropped up

How do you now reply to comments? I can't figure it out. Used to be so simple.

In order to comment you have to link a google plus account to your youtube channel. No, I'm not kidding.

Hmm.. not sure if I did that. I don't even know what's up with YouTube; it seems that you can now select whether or not one of your own comments can be replied to by other people. Interestingly, it seems that all comments - by default - have been set in order so that no one can reply to them.

Seems like a complicated mess. Remember when a person didn't have to link/sync/whatever every single thing? :/

Does NO ONE remember when there was NO single central video sharing site? I feel this was barely 5 years ago!! Youtube was struggling. videos.google.com or something was struggling. Vimeo existed, others existed, they were all separate, if you wanted to host a video you'd have to do some decision making.

but then youtube started to rise, google disbanded their own video site (I had stuff up on there, as far as I know it was just deleted) and bought youtube. I guess the excitement wore off very slowly, like how Google is losing its non-evil shine, but now we're at a turning point.

Anyways I'm not very old so I don't get why we're being so defeatist about it. Another site like vimeo or even the new myspace (ha!) could easily take over if Google pissed people off enough. Facebook is getting to that point, obviously Myspace wore off on people, as did Digg when it got bought. You don't even have to piss people off... just annoy them.

The cost of figuring out how to see Youtube comments without having Gplus is getting a little high for me (I cannot see any comments sections at all and am unwilling to link because I don't want to deal with glitches like losing my playlists or having old forgotten comments published to the world under my name) so I might just sit back. Quickly stop participating in Youtube communities. Slowly stop going on Youtube at all.
