I play a lot of card games casually. I don't have the money to go through with it, and I'm not that good at it anyway.
I love YU-GI-OH, and I believe, to my friends dismay, that it can be much more strategic than magic the gathering. I don't play much anymore, just because I can't afford to keep buying new cards, or to drive 2 hours one way to go to a tournament, but it's a great game. i've always run a deck based around blue eyes, it's one of my favorite cards.PatrickXD said:Good-day my fellow Escapists. I am here to talk about a serious matter indeed. I shall speak, of course, about children's card games. Now, I play Yu-Gi-Oh! (or duel monster's) and I love it. I am a 16 year old male having played for about 3 years now. Many of my friends play as well, and we each run different archetypes in our decks to keep things fresh. From this you should be able to derive my personal opinion on those wonderful little cards, which leads me to my full question:
What are your opinions on 'Children's Card Games'. Ie, do you play them? Why or why not? What would bring you to play them?
For all who may be interested, I run a pure Gemini deck, stapleless.

They are going to eventually make real duel disks considering they got the card scanning technology already.Palademon said:That would be fun, scaring people with holograms of massive monsters.Marik2 said:I would get back into yugioh once they make duel disks

I play Yu-Gi-Oh! and I'm 19. It is just as complex, if not more so, than the "grown up" games like Magic. Seriously, screw anyone who goes "I DON"T PLAY KIDS" GAMES. Gemini decks are too risky. Cards like Book of Moon, Bottomless Trap Hole, and the countless destructive abilities of cards make summoning one twice neigh impossible. I first read their effects and went "WTF, How can you use this?"Asuka Soryu said:Just_A_Glitch said:I used to play a few years ago. Got pretty good at it for a bit, but then I lost interest/couldn't afford it.
I got back into it for a few weeks every summer when I was in high school when I went to a state choir for 18 days, as it was a good way to pass time, but by that point I didn't really care that much about the ability of my deck. It was just for fun at that point, and nobody really had any newer cards.
Here's a good indicator of when I quit. My deck revolved around Jinzo. I have no idea what the hell a Gemini deck is.
Geez that's quite awhile. xD Gemini's are Effect monsters that have no effects. xD
Not to be offensive, but back when I did play Yu-Gi-Oh, I quit because it definitely was not as complex as Magic. Not by a long shot. I admit this could have changed, but when I played around 8 years ago, the best decks were the ones where people dropped a lot of money on getting 4-star 1900 attack monsters and just going agro. There were a couple of viable decks, but if you played in tournaments there were probably about 5 different deck types there. But things could have changed. The early days of Yu-Gi-Oh are probably significantly different from what they are now.RedEyesBlackGamer said:I play Yu-Gi-Oh! and I'm 19. I don't own the cards. I use the Kaiba Co. Online Duel System. I run Lightsworns.
A lot has changed. A lot. You just don't know. Synchro summons, the upcoming Excel summons. It is now as complex as Magic. Go on the wiki and see for yourself.j0frenzy said:Not to be offensive, but back when I did play Yu-Gi-Oh, I quit because it definitely was not as complex as Magic. Not by a long shot. I used to play, but quit and switched up to Magic. I quit because a)my friends were more of Magic people b)there was a lack of variety in deck types and c)the company could not stop limiting good cards. First rule of game design: the less changes you have to make in post-production the better. I got tired of good cards getting printed and the best thing they could think to balance it was saying you could only have 1 copy.
I'll take your word for it. Quite frankly, even if it has become as complex as Magic, I have no one to play with, so its a moot point. Thought I am intrigued by some of the stuff in this thread. Flaming Dinosaurs and Frog decks sound kind of awesome. Awesome like trying to build a Magic deck around a sheep-mage.RedEyesBlackGamer said:A lot has changed. A lot. You just don't know.
