This is just the kind of game where the fun you get out of it is only as much as you invest into it. Sure, you can just hypnotize splicers and let them do your dirty, but you can also shoot a rocket spear into their crotch and watch them flail their arms around as they set fire to their friends before ultimately exploding.

One thing I'm quite shocked about is how he didn't comment on the "new" Rapture. Was it fun to revisit it in this game?
The environments were terribly worn down over the years, so it makes sense in the canon, but most of them are incredibly dull nonetheless with the exception of Ryan Amusments.

"why is the prototype better than the finished"
Well, during the first stages, you're basically made of jelly; any splicer drains half of your health bar with a mere wrench, and, until you leveled your health and defence enough, you can't kill a big daddy without healing yourself. I don't see how that's better than the finished ones; I'll give you the plasmids though =P

It's pretty seldom that I feel that Yahtzee has gotten it completely wrong, but I have to say... I feel he's gotten this one completely wrong.
At least in terms of the gameplay. I enjoyed it quite a bit, having a valid reason to set up defenses and be strategic instead of just running around shooting everything that moves like in every other shooter in the world.

And while the plot wasn't the most original and it may have seemed kindof like a mutant plot growing out of the original plot haphazardly... the characters were still really interesting. I ended up really liking a few of them, including the main character and Elenor. Which really drove the story for me.

Good review, was actually sort of surprised at the review. I haven't played the game myself, so I don't really know much about it, but I was kind of hoping it wouldn't suck.

In other news, I know the escapist likes to sell itself out with it's extravagantly BS ads, but they've really outdone themselves this time by forcing the viewer to open up a pop-up window covered with sticky corporate fluids just to see the video.

Wow, the BF:BC2 background is a bit much isn't it? Am I the only one seeing that?
Nope, and I agree, it's a bit much. I saw the little close button in the corner and clicked that, hoping to watch the video on the normal screen, but then the video stopped. :(

Anyway, I haven't played any Bioshock yet (I'll probably borrow #1 from my brother over the summer if I'm bored), but I'd be all over Bioshock 3 no questions asked if I could play as a vending machine.

I stopped it when I saw "Would You Kindly stop the video please?"

I did it out of some crazy reflex and it worries me.

Yahtzee will proboly rewiv mass effect 2 next week although I REALLY want to hear what he thinks about Heavy Rain
Pretty sure he already reviewed Mass Effect 2.

But yeah, Heavy Rain would be cool.

Also, is anybody getting graphical glitches since they put that Bad Company banner around the video?

I was going to read all of the comments, see what kind of feedback the Little Sister spine-breaking got, but there's no way I'm spending an hour and a half reading through 350+ comments just to make an informed comment.

So instead, please enjoy this lovely blue semi-colon. ;

And for the ladies, here's a pink one. ;

Ok I'm confused, mostly because I haven't played the original. What the fuck is Adam? From the Bioshock review I got the impression it was the main protagonist, but in this game it sounds like the 5th element or maybe the Force.

ADAM is a substance collected from sea slugs which is able to change a user's genetic code, therefore giving them powers or abilities they wouldn't normally have, such as firing lightning from your fingertips. Rapture made a profit off of the stuff until the people abused it and became addicted to it. Which was a major reason why Rapture fell in the first place.

Little Sisters go out to harvest the ADAM from corpses so it could be used again in the market. This unfortunately made them vunerable to the ADAM hungry splicers, and that's where the Big Daddies came in.

I loved this game. I absolutely loved it. And yet...I still thoroughly enjoyed this review. Did it change my view of the game? No! Did this review still give me happiness and joy? Quite so.

Just goes to show the difference between Yahtzee and the rest of zem critics. A sequel pulls off the same concepts with added polish, and people clap politely. But Yahtzee sees it for what it really is: a diminished extension that exists to produce moolah and appease nostalgics.

That said, I immensely adore both games.

I have an unspeakable hate for everything said in this review. Except the eating through helmet and annoying smug voice thing, that was annoying.

But really I'm not going to go into depth, I simply can't be bothered, but this review is really naive. There weren't any plot holes at all they're only there because of your own lack of perception and interest. The story was fine. I was originally in the "bio2 is milking" crowd but after having played it, it really lives up the original.

I honestly beleived Bioshock 2 was a worthy sucessor to the first game. Sure it was short, but I really liked the story it had to offer. The first game's story was great too, but I just didn't feel like I could connect to Jack. He was basically a puppet throughout the entire game, then again perhaps he's just one of those video game characters whose shoes the player puts himself in.

Meanwhile, Delta actually had a real goal other than just to survive. He was trying to save his Little Sister, and that made me connect to him a lot more.

Ha, That was pretty funny review. Still mabye a bioshock prequel would have worked a lot better?
That could work, be someone involved during the civil war of Rapture, flesh out how it became a sinking ship that's already at the bottom of the ocean.

One of the best ZP reviews. Totally loved this one, even though I'm still going to try Bioshock 2 since I loved Bioshock so much.
