You forgot to mention Kirby and Kid Icarus.

Also, the guy that was responsible for Dead or Alive and "jiggle physics" left Team Ninja a while ago, so don't get your hopes up about Samus.

To everyone complaining that he didn't say anything about Portal 2... did you WANT him to rip it to shreds? Because that's what he does on his E3 videos. I don't think he's ever said anything positive about a game that isn't even out yet, because he's not an optimist.

"Consider myself a praiser-by-exception in that anything I don't mention is perfectly fine." All we know from the lack of mention is that he hasn't already written it off, but obviously he's not going to get his hopes up because that's not how he rolls.

I disagree with the 3DS being a gimmick. I think it'll be quite impressive, not just because of the 3D, but because it seems to be quite powerful for a hand-held device.
Power is no longer a new thing and hasnt been since PSP came out.
And PSP2 will undoubtedly be even more powerful.
I dont see how you can get excited at 3DS's power. It's GPU is only 2 years younger than PSPs!

And I'm sure Sony isn't stupid enough to let 3DS be the only 3D handheld

Would somebody like to educate me as to why Rebecca Muse has something against Yahtzee? Cuz yea, I watched the song and found myself a tad perplexed. Or am I just missing some weird joke?

How did he no mention Portal 2?
I thought we'd finally get a "Woohoo!" out of him...
Because he hates sequels. Mostly because even if the sequel improves things from the first game, it has an inherent lack of originality by virtue of being a sequel.
He hates like 99.99% of sequals. I understand his reasoning alot though.
OT: I agree about Rising, but atleast it isn't like MGS2 all over again.

Raging on gimmicky motion controls = Awesome
Raging on gimmicky 3D = Awesome
Raging on games advertised on E3 = Awesome
That crappy "love song" which involved no love and sounded like every other song Rebecca Mayes has squirted out since... ever and thus crushing my hopes for a super-duper long Zero Punctiation episode = Very, very bad. Especially considering I had already subjected myself to it. Aaaargh.

And when the review ended, the pretentiousness began.

Is it just me who thinks it hypocritical for people to complain that there are not enough female gamers or original webshows on the internet, then when a female game critic who criticises games through the medium of music appears, you find fault in that too.

How about you reconsider your own opinion instead of changing my own?
Of course, my apologies. Let's give her a patronizing pat on the head, because she's a woman. And we all know that this is the absolute best that any woman could ever do. It is absolutely hypocritical of me to take note of the discrepancy in the ratio of male-to-female gamers, and dislike the product of a woman that does something having vaguely to do with games.

Okay, I'm done reconsidering my opinion. Now let's try this my way: we can take into account the fact that women are not dogs, and are, in fact, autonomous, sentient creatures capable of damned near everything men are (the most prominent exceptions being bodily functions), including (but not limited to) making good things, and making bad things. I happen to think that making the same song repeatedly, changing the lyrics to be vaguely about a game, and then putting costumes on your dog and boyfriend and chasing them around with a camera is not good, and I'd dislike it every bit as much as if a man made it. That's equality, welcome to the 21st century.

Oh, and don't fool yourself by thinking that her music videos are the female population's first tentative steps into the magical world of gaming, and that she will bring forth a flood of shy, cute female gamers that want to hear you talk about the last time you prestiged. If a woman like video games, she'll probably play them. If a woman doesn't care about video games, she probably has things she'd rather do, as opposed to being a shrinking violet that dreams of one day being able to play video games in public without being scorned. I have casual conversations about MW2 with very attractive, very popular, very feminine women, and that's possible because we're past the day and age of women being shunned by society for liking something "unwomanly".
Lulz, thank you. I couldn't have put it better myself. My wife liked her voice but we were both fucking perplexed as hell to what her malfunction was. o_O

And stop hating on Rebecca Mayes. When was the last time YOU put your creative energy into something that you could leverage into a living? We should all be so fortunate as to pursue our passions as a career rather than wasting away in corporate cubicles and behind fast-food counters.
Absolutely!

In fact, let's turn off our critical faculties altogether! Whenever anything dull, crap or irrelevant gets shoehorned into a program, let's just blandly praise it instead. That way, everyone will be happy, because everything will be 'good'. Except when it isn't. Then it will be terrible, but rewarded as warmly as genuine talent and industry.

Most of the Mayes-apologists seem to be missing the point of a 'forum', and discussion in general. Forums exist to discuss things, not to one-sidedly praise all and sundry slavishly. Doing so would only dilute the effect of sincere praise anyways - and, to be frank, when you release work to the public, the implication is that you are as ready for the flak as you are for the commendation.

It's a silly idea anyhow. Human beings are consensus creatures. We simply do not feel comfortable seeing something praised that we do not believe deserves it - we want to affirm our beliefs, and make sure praise is only meted out in a just and appropriate manner.

The real issue is one The Escapist has always faced: ZP is the only decent video content on this site, with perhaps the exception of Unskippable. The Escapist needs to face up to this, and stop trying to crowbar in content we've never had an interest in, nor ever will.

than again we are all entitled to our own opinions about things.

The end of that video smells like ownage.

Yahtzee didn't even need to comment, the fans do it for him.

Have a look; every second comment is one insulting Mayes, good show Yahtzee, good show.

Incidentally, I'd say the latest chapter in the Motion Controls Saga is nothing to get worked up about. Whether you like or hate motion controls, Sony and Microsoft are at least doing it right, by making it an optional accessory you're free to not get for the consoles you already have. Compare this to the Wii, where the gamepad was the optional accessory, so every game made for it was expected to work with the nunchuck gun, and anyone who preferred to play with gamepads was left to proverbially suck it.

Good chance is, all the developers anyone cares about will just ignore the Move and Kinect and continue focusing on their core audience, all of whom already own gamepads because that's what the systems came with. Probably the worst that will come of this is developers making the motion controls an option (like how PC users can use gamepads), and spending development dollars on making that work that could have better been spent on improving graphics or gameplay or story... but not by much.

as for needing to blandly praise everything, NO

we need to praise what deserves praising, forget everything else, and hope that those who do everything else will learn what does get praise, and what receives only silence and crickets.

I love how they try to shovel in Rebecca's latest ear-rape into Yahtzee's new video. I guess The Escapist finally realized that would be the only way anyone would watch the bloody thing.

It seems like after they finished There Will Be Brawl and Unforgotten Realms that Escapist realized that they have nothing else on their plate but untalented hacks, so they try to shove it down our throats.

"Come see Yahtzee's April Fools prank! What do you mean, you didn't see it? It was on Game Dogs!"

And then there was the holiday calender thing last year: "Free badge if you watch not one, but two Rebecca Mayes videos!"

Next they'll have some kind of big cash giveaway, but you must watch either I Hit It With My Axe or Doraleous and Associates for details.
