Funny new video.

I bought the game myself and finished it co-op and found it better than anything I've played thusfar.

FEAR was fun, and FEAR2 was better than most modern shooters (not that that is saying much though). I might get the new one when it is on sale on Steam or something, since it seems to be a co-op centered experience, which is tough for someone who doesn't have any friends, nor a homeless person in their basement.

Fun fact: The 4 in the title of the new thief game, Thi4f, isn't replacing an E with a 4, but an A with a 4, making it "thiaf," which is actually a very old, archaic word for "thief". That doesn't necessarily reduce the douchebaggery of the title though. If anything, it makes it even more douchebaggy.

How dare you diss multiplayer, Yahtzee! Every game should have multiplayer! I won't even touch solitaire until they patch it for 16 people and I can teabag people who draw aces!
So are you new here, or do you just play one on TV?

Cool review.
Played Fear, Fear non-canon and Fear non-canon 2, and Fear 2. And you'd think after all of that time I'd be interested in finding out how it ends...

NOPE!

Actually, I could see where you might be confused, since you probably didn't police my profile before asking that, but I'm wondering how the dripping sarcasm didn't trip you up. That stuff's mad slipper.

Though he even praises the multiplayer in this game, and instead of blasting it on its premise of co-op he merely points out it's bad to do it in the middle of a story based series.

I guess what I'm saying is, that would have been a better rtort had it not been to such a silly statement that was clearly taking the piss in the first place.

I don't get this numbers-between-letters thing, either, though it's bloody hilarious trying to pronounce them with my colleages.

I watched two colleagues play co-op on a lunch break once, and it was actually entertaining. I like how both characters have different abilities and therefore different strengths and weaknesses. Make "co-op" all the more co-op, haha.

What's that, Monolith released another NOLF game? No? THEN I DON'T CARE ABOUT IT.

lol THI4F? they didn't seriously go with that, oh God.
Only for the original unveiling, I think they're moved onto Thief 4 now.

Has anyone else noticed that the box art for FEARs 1, 2, and 3 depict a sequence of Alma slowly walking towards the camera
Oh wow. That's awesome!

By the way, I agree :D

Always wanted to get into this series, but I never could quite manage it. Just too hard to feel scared when you have a gun, bullet time, and sometimes a squad with you. Now they've added co-op too?

At first the story seemed complex, but the more I played part 2 the more I realized it was just a convoluted mess that was probably slapped together by a marketing team desperate to churn out more stories, or at least that was my impression.

....Wait.

Yahtzee just acknowledged that multiplayer can make a game better!

he even said signle player was shit, but it was alright in co-op!

Wait made your opinions change?

Can we expect a re-review of games you trashed because you didn't try co-op with?

Good on you Yahtzee. Expected a full blown thrashing, but only recieved a strong talking to. Personally I liked FEAR 3 myself, and bothered to play it both single player and co-op. The co-op is it's strong suit, especially playing as Paxton, who does laugh like a giddy child every time you possess someone, but the single player isn't a total wash if you like fps games. Of course, again you do have to deal with the ass clenching difficulty curve that goes all over the place. Soloing the EPA is hard, but taking on the 3 Force Commanders at once is probably worse, jumpy little bastards.

Well i never really got into the FEAR series and this game doesn't interest me either, were the previous FEARs any good?
The original F.E.A.R. is really good. I'd put it in my top 5 shooters of all time.

F.E.A.R. 2 was fun, but they kinda went more toward the action, and less toward horror. The first one blended them nicely. And unfortunately, it was a console port for PC... whereas the first game was PC... then ported to console.

The funny thing is.. if you didn't really like #2.... after you play F.E.A.R. 3... you'll say, "hmm... wow, F.E.A.R. 2 was actually pretty good."

The problem is that F.E.A.R. 3 practically abandons everything that made the original great. #2 was at least close to the first in more aspects.

F.E.A.R. 3 is a fun action shooter.... but a terrible F.E.A.R game.

Wait how the hell does a 6 stand in for an 'R' ...well I guess it could be a lower-case 'R'.
Makes about as much sense as a 4 standing in for and 'E'.

Anyway...

"(Alma's) coming and (she's) gonna kick your ass,
(Alma's) coming and (she's) gonna kicker your ass.."

Nice one there. Except for the fact that Monolith didn't have a whole lot to do with this game. They sort of gave it a slight direction and then told the guys they handed it to to go nuts. You can keep your apathy, just get your facts straight before talking about it. Pedantic, I know, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
I don't mind at all, I've certainly corrected people on the difference between Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks often enough. I hadn't realized developement of this game had been transferred to another studio.

When the title of a game is F.E.A.R. You'd think it was atleast a little bit scary, but it's really not. F.E.A.R. 3 failed miserably to scare me, F.E.A.R 1 and 2 were much better in that regard.

And btw, for a proper scary game experience, check out Amnesia: The Dark Decent.

I just played through this game with a friend from start to finish. We were both pretty surprised when we turned the game on and found out that being Player 2 was significantly more awesome than being Player 1 for once. Also I have to agree with a lot of things here. The game made no fucking sense (it's also the only FEAR game I've played), wasn't scary at all, and was ridiculously short, but it was also really quite fun because of the amount of running and gunning they let you get away with. Overall I thought it was pretty solid.

Also fuck that robot. I know exactly what he's talking about and that shit took us forever.
In FEAR you play as Point Man and gradually find out that Alma was basically locked away at age 15 and used in experiments to breed supersoldiers who could be controlled hivemind style by psychic commanders. It was really just an excuse to throw supersoldiers, bullet time and a young psychic girl into a game (it originally came out at a time when Japanese horror movies featuring small creepy girls with long dark hair were trendy).

In FEAR 2 you play as a different guy (whose name I can't remember) who discovers Point Man was Alma's son. He is part of another task force who is supposed to extract one of the doctors who worked on the supersoldier experiments right before things go critical at the very end of FEAR 1 - however things do go critical. He winds up being knocked out and captured by the other group, discovering in the process he was part of a supersoldier/psychic commander experiment as well. At the end he's the only one who can stop Alma, but instead of him stopping her, she traps him in a psychic nightmare and rapes him (which is why she's pregnant in F3AR).

I think F3AR was really, really well done and the way the world kept experiencing aftershocks every time she had a contraction. It made the whole thing so deliciously surreal.

interesting points especially on the functionality of the co-op in particular...I played Army of Two and it was pretty annoying the way they forced it

altho two people playing co-op in Halo has in my experience allowed for the party to pay attention to the story if both are invested. of course this is usually not the case once the number reaches 3-4 player co-op, then cutscenes get skipped :p
