Wait how the hell does a 6 stand in for an 'R' ...well I guess it could be a lower-case 'R'.
Makes about as much sense as a 4 standing in for and 'E'.

Anyway...

(Alma's) coming and (she's) gonna kicker your ass.."

Nice one there. Except for the fact that Monolith didn't have a whole lot to do with this game. They sort of gave it a slight direction and then told the guys they handed it to to go nuts. You can keep your apathy, just get your facts straight before talking about it. Pedantic, I know, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
I don't mind at all, I've certainly corrected people on the difference between Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks often enough. I hadn't realized developement of this game had been transferred to another studio.

When the title of a game is F.E.A.R. You'd think it was atleast a little bit scary, but it's really not. F.E.A.R. 3 failed miserably to scare me, F.E.A.R 1 and 2 were much better in that regard.

And btw, for a proper scary game experience, check out Amnesia: The Dark Decent.

I just played through this game with a friend from start to finish. We were both pretty surprised when we turned the game on and found out that being Player 2 was significantly more awesome than being Player 1 for once. Also I have to agree with a lot of things here. The game made no fucking sense (it's also the only FEAR game I've played), wasn't scary at all, and was ridiculously short, but it was also really quite fun because of the amount of running and gunning they let you get away with. Overall I thought it was pretty solid.

Also fuck that robot. I know exactly what he's talking about and that shit took us forever.
In FEAR you play as Point Man and gradually find out that Alma was basically locked away at age 15 and used in experiments to breed supersoldiers who could be controlled hivemind style by psychic commanders. It was really just an excuse to throw supersoldiers, bullet time and a young psychic girl into a game (it originally came out at a time when Japanese horror movies featuring small creepy girls with long dark hair were trendy).

In FEAR 2 you play as a different guy (whose name I can't remember) who discovers Point Man was Alma's son. He is part of another task force who is supposed to extract one of the doctors who worked on the supersoldier experiments right before things go critical at the very end of FEAR 1 - however things do go critical. He winds up being knocked out and captured by the other group, discovering in the process he was part of a supersoldier/psychic commander experiment as well. At the end he's the only one who can stop Alma, but instead of him stopping her, she traps him in a psychic nightmare and rapes him (which is why she's pregnant in F3AR).

I think F3AR was really, really well done and the way the world kept experiencing aftershocks every time she had a contraction. It made the whole thing so deliciously surreal.

interesting points especially on the functionality of the co-op in particular...I played Army of Two and it was pretty annoying the way they forced it

altho two people playing co-op in Halo has in my experience allowed for the party to pay attention to the story if both are invested. of course this is usually not the case once the number reaches 3-4 player co-op, then cutscenes get skipped :p

I really enjoyed each title in the the FEAR franchise, but i have to admit after the first two Games i already knew when and where i was going to be "shocked". The other problem is, even if they would have picked up a different approach to be scary, i am already accustomed to whatever Alma could spit out, therefor for anyone who played the first two Games... you will not see horror as horror.

I found the sinlge player mode pretty decent and yes the robot with K Cereal amount of HP wasn´t too easy, but i found myself stuck at the room with the two (going through walls) commanders. Aside from that, after playing through with both brothers, i found myself going back for awesome kills... slow-mo kills... he he...

I have played through FEAR 3, but I don't remember any robot with a milion hit-points.
Could someone be kind and specify on what level you meet it?

Only thing I found to be a good challange was at level 7, I think, when you meet two wall phasing commandos at the same time. But I don't remember any robots that you fight outside of a mechsuit.

Enjoyed the single player. Haven't tried it coop, guess I'll have to. The original FEAR is my favorite in the series, but this was well done. None of them "scared" me but the first kept the tension on better.

Story made sense to me, but then I've played the first two games and understand them. The only thing that didn't make sense to me was the time gap between F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R 3 (9 months?! What the hell has everyone been doing for 9 months while the world goes to Hell? And why is Jin still there after 9 months?) and why the Point Man allowed Fettel to do that to Becket. That made my friends and I very angry.

Good eye on the box art of Alma, Yahtzee. I totally missed that. I'll have to go put the three games next to each other and look at them like that. Wonder what F.E.A.R 4's box art will look like.

Whoah whoah whoah, Yahtzee actually posts threads to announce his new videos!?

Does he ever reply to anything, or does he just bugger off to go be hilarious other places? -Hunkers down and waits-
As far as I know, Yahtzee doesn't communicate with the people who watch his videos, as he likes to compare us to bleating sheep. He much prefers to post his hilarious videos, and then shamble off to the Mana Bar.

If you look at his post history, it's merely all of him uploading his own videos.

OT: Quite a good review. I've never played any FEAR game in my life, but this killed a good 6 minutes, and that's all I could ever ask for in a Zero Punctuation review. Good work, Yahtzee.

He's talking about the one you fight in the airport where you're in a mech suit too. Just before reaching Becket. You're not alone, because I had no problems with it either. I just kept the crates between me and the mech and kept running a circle. Took a while, but I never died.

i actually like the fear games (besides XP and PM). yes, the scary moments are all gone but at least its a solid shooter.
dint had any problems with the robot he was talking about (SP), and i played it on medium. just ran around in circles and it was gone.
coop is fun too but i would not say that the SP is shit. i dint expect a master piece but as i said before, it is a solid shooter. with some horror elements. alma looked actually freaky with her orange eyes.
