Once again, embed code doesn't work.

Why even bother with an embed code if you don't want people to embed the video?

Though I've played computer games for so long I think gaming has replaced a significant amount of my white blood cells in terms of what my very bone marrow produces, I've never bought a Guitar Hero game, and probably never will. I've played a demo of it, and the presentation was good, but I still can't justify shelling out extra dosh for cheap plastic wanna-be instruments that'll mostly do little more than clutter my house. I'd probably try Audiosurf [http://store.steampowered.com/app/12900/] first.

That said, great review, and that Deus Ex... thing at the end was flipping awesome for all us Deus Ex fans out there. Here's hoping Deus Ex III [http://www.deusex3.com/] turns out better, eh?

Yahtzee is becoming a bit more hit-or-miss for me. Some of his reviews are very funny and witty but others really don't get much out of me. The last few reviews have been the latter. I was hoping he'd review Mirror's Edge rather than pretty much replicating his previous Guitar Hero review.

I also didn't quite get the Deus Ex song at the end. I suppose playing the game is a prerequisite to finding it even the least bit humorous.

Definitely not buying any guitar periphial game anytime soon.

Oh Deus Ex.. still have my original copy somewhere around here, should I risk my memories and play it again? He's right btw, swimming is quite useless - but the game being awesome makes up for it

Looking forward to the next one, Ben.

Well, the other important thing you have to realize is that it's an epically awesome theme song. I think the implication is that somebody did the smart thing and arranged it for World Tour, and they made up some lyrics to sing karaoke with it while doing the tune.

Alexander Brandon is the fricking man.

I'm disappointed you just complained about the instruments and songs rather then the game. Made it seem like a shallow review.
That is essentially the entire point of the game though, the part that makes it different from other games.

I must admit - I didn't like this review that much (I know personnel opinios count for shit all these days unless you're the President of America or a nazi if those two are indeed actually different) but still i cant help but feel that yahtzee was so pissed of at rock band's unrelease that he took it out on GHWT. I have GHWT (yes hooray for me...¬_¬) and there are only 2 things that annoy me 1) the huge amount of time it takes to get from one song to another and 2) the amount that my dog starts howling whenever I play it. I really dont see where yahtzee was coming from in his criticisms - as far as I could work out GHWT's downside for him was that no-one in Austrailia can sing and play video games. Yahtzee you have let your-self down with this review and in comparism to your GH3 review this just sounds like the pathetic mewlings of a 3 year old learning to speak. 2 things i thought were missing from your review would be that fact that this has more legends of rock in than the GH3 and secondly that they had listened to what you had said and included Clive Winston again. I must admit watching Clive Winston, Ozzy Osbourne, Travis and that guy with blond hair who I know by name and not by sight all playing Down Under whilst on a magical flying stage thats pulled along by eagles is something that i will never forget and cant be considered cheeesy when you think of some of the songs in the playlist. Still think there should be more metal tunes in there though so i can have a game with lots of decent solos not just a couple springing up like 'branston pickle' (yes i know thats your comparisom but i like it as well)
I've never seen someone type out so much and yet manage to not say anything at all.

I think you were trying to critisize him, but forgot what you were doing and settled for calling him a three-year-old before mumbling vaguely about Clive Winston.

Oh, and nice job with the completely unnecessary and groundless mention of the United States and how they measure up to Nazis.

Here's the thing I don't quite understand: Harmonix are the ones who made the game, but the publishers are EA and MTV Games. Aren't they the ones at fault for the ridiculous pushback on the Australian release date and the packaging and pricing of the peripherals? I'm not saying Harmonix is totally innocent, but as funny as I found the review, that's just something that bugs me. Probably because I have both games and like the look and feel of Rock Band a lot better.

I am so happy that Guitar Hero: World Tour received a good thrashing. Especially the guitar, which was always garbage-on-a-stick compared Rock Band's (even more so in GHWT). The only fun I've gotten out of it was playing with the three Tool songs that Activision stole from Harmonix.
Well, not really, but I felt they brainwashed my all-time favorite band into using their songs for a lesser, button-mash-fest game. Sure, seeing Alex Grey's art being displayed instead of the band, like Tool's videos, was cool, but its the same one three times. I do hope that Tool see the light and put either the song Lateralus or the album Lateralus on Rock Band.
I love Tool as well, but they are big boys and I doubt they were brainwashed. Activision probably just did a good job of stroking their ego by offering to work with them closely and do the artwork.

I'm the rare cross-over between an attention craving douche/permanent drunk and a overfantasizing nerd just because I like to sing and play video games?

Hhhmmm, I suppose I am.

I somewhat enjoyed singing in Rock Band (and like in GT before it, hated playing any of the instruments) but there's simply no replacing an actual podium + audience. Activision tried to outdo it by adding all kinds of stuff that no one really needed and rather shot themselves in the foot with it. Thus ends my review.

That's a good question, when WILL they feature Stairway to Heaven? Anyway, this one was much funnier than more recent ones. I'm now waiting for the inevitable Left 4 Dead review.

In response to your question about stairway to heaven, I would like to proffer a "hopefully never" as a slightly sarcastically toned reply that I really mean.

The review was meh for me because I've never played any plastic guitar game, but the Deus Ex song was rather good. I had a lot of WTF moments with that game at the time, and it was nice to see Yahtzee puting it in its place.

By the way, Yahtzee says on his site that he replaced the old introduction songs with the hard-rif intro, because he was afraid of copiright infringement. He doesn't say if he got a threatening letter or something, but if he hasn't I'd say go back to the old way.

And also, his site contains extremely funny random stuff materials which can give you hours of fun. One of my favorite articles is "Letters from the mushroom kingdom". It's about a brick but I'm not revealing anything else.
