I don't consider it an upgrade, more of a replacement.
It's high end, sure, but it omits the use of previous software and only allows newer games. The idea that these new games are going to be "better" doesn't concern me. The expense concerns me.
I'm not gonna argue ease of emulation or expenses, but the PS2 and PS3 offered things that people could use. A DVD player and a Blu-Ray player, along with backwards compatibility THAT was an upgrade. That got people saying "ok here's something I want"

Nothing is wrong with it, it's just that the idea of buying a console for that is silly to me.

I don't have any real criticism of the Wii U. It was pushed out kind of fast, but it's more of an upgrade from Wii than a downgrade.
