Good thing Donald isn't a gamer, or after watching this in a week we'd see this become "The Esc-Trump-ist" and Yhatzee out of a job
I'm with you here! The dialogue in the trailer is what originally piqued me interested actually. No shame in enjoying the cheesy charming story/characters (although I will agree that there are some balancing issues with the audio but it never bothered me). Hopefully people don't skip this just because they hear that the story/dialogue is bad (realistically how many other 2d platformers have a story, plus we have the option to skip it if we want to!)Frankster said:I must be a weird weirdo from weirdo land because I had 0 problems with Freedom Planet's story or voice acting (which if anything I thought was quite ok xD). But when EVERYONE (yahtzee, every review of freedom planet i've read, heck even the comments in this thread!) is saying the same thing, I guess I can only conclude I really do have shitty tastes.
Oh well, good for me I guess.
...Man, it is just... really unfortunate that this came out the very day that Freedom Planet's Wii U port got delayed indefinitely, until they fix the bugs in the port. Just really bad timing.FPLOON said:Freedom Planet's on the Wii U, you say? I might actually buy the game after all...
Compared to Dark Souls, it's quite low.Metalmacher said:Hey, for those who bought it, how is Freedom Planet's difficulty like? Like, say, compared to Dark Souls?
There are multiple difficulty levels for the game. On normal difficulty, it's somewhat more forgiving than say, Sonic 2, EDIT: except for some of the later boses. See the post above me for details. Of course there are higher difficulty levels. If your not sure about the game, why not try the demo on PC or Wii U.Metalmacher said:Hey, for those who bought it, how is Freedom Planet's difficulty like? Like, say, compared to Dark Souls?
Honestly, I must be a bigger weirdo, since I like the voice acting and thought the story was not bad. Bear in mind that I used to collect those Sonic comic books when I was a kid, and the developers probably took some inspiration from said comic, but I could be wrong about that.Frankster said:I must be a weird weirdo from weirdo land because I had 0 problems with Freedom Planet's story or voice acting (which if anything I thought was quite ok xD). I'm not even that big of a sonic fan (ain't played a sonic game since...I think was one of the dreamcast games) and ain't a "furry" either.

There is a free demo available on their website. It covers about two levels, as well as a gallery for taking down targets.Sniper Team 4 said:I'm actually kind of curious to try that Freedom Planet game now. Not curious enough to buy a Wii U for it, but I wouldn't mind checking it out if they decided to release it for the PS4 on the store or something.
The levels themselves don't pose that big of a threat. Not until level 5. But even so, Bosses are no push-over.Metalmacher said:Hey, for those who bought it, how is Freedom Planet's difficulty like? Like, say, compared to Dark Souls?
sorry to be that guy but I have yo say it. the main character is not a hedgehog she is a dragon. they say it multiple times in the game. also why is Milla depicted as a rabbit in the video? she is a dog, a Basset Hound to be exact. I know that was nit picky but I just had to say it.marioandsonic said:Yeah, not going to lie, I thought the story in Freedom Planet was very...fanfiction-y, if that make any sense.
In fact, the game even started out as a Sonic fangame (with the main character even being a hedgehog), but eventually diverted enough to the point to where it is now.
And yes, the quality of the voice acting varies greatly from character to character. I thought the main character's actress did alright, and so did the main villain. Everyone else probably could have at least used some better audio equipment, though.
All that said, the gameplay, design, and music are still fantastic, and I'd still put in my top 10 games from last year, which is way more than I can say for Sonic Boom. Hell, even Freedom Planet's story, for all of its faults, is still better than the story in Sonic Boom.
No, marioandsonic is right. The game started out as a sonic fangame, and Lilac started out as a hedgehog.Andre Nilsson said:sorry to be that guy but I have yo say it. the main character is not a hedgehog she is a dragon. they say it multiple times in the game. also why is Milla depicted as a rabbit in the video? she is a dog, a Basset Hound to be exact. Omg Sonic the Comic...Or maybe you're referring to something else. But yeh I used to read them sega comics too, though they weren't all about sonic, they had stories about tons of games like ecco the dolphin, kid chameleon, golden axe or street of rage to name but a few... Ah the good old days.coates32 said:Bear in mind that I used to collect those Sonic comic books when I was a kid, and the developers probably took some inspiration from said comic, but I could be wrong about that.
I was referring to the comics by Archie Comics, which you can find more information on it here [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_%28comics%29/].Frankster said:saxman234 said:snipGlad to hear I'm not the only special snowflake around herecoates32 said:snippy 2
I was puzzled cos to tell you the truth...I LIKED the plot. The whole intergalactic warlord crash landing on a xenos planet and manipulating events discreetly (at least at first) caught me by surprise. The tone was mostly cheesy but there was some dark moments (lilac torture scene, showing the bad guy doesn't mess around) which I quite enjoyed, I did not expect anything else then a straight forward cutesy story, and was pleasantly surprised here, especially by the villain.

Yep. In fact, here's a video from the game's development back in 2012:Enlong said:No, marioandsonic is right. The game eventually became more or less its own thing, and Lilac became a dragon, but that's how it started out. You can definitely see it in the older footage of the game's early development.
