You can fast-travel from anywhere to anywhere in the game, so the travel time's not really an issue... There are also tons of scripted events you can run into in the wilderness, too. There's tons'a people there, mostly cannibals. And the side quest aren't so much for their own sake as they are for your honor/fame's sake... And I never once had an issue with the controls. Maybe Yahtzee got the PS3 version or something? Apart from that it was a fairly spot on if not all that humorous review. Only seven days until the next one. ^^
Last thing I'll say - if a game is released for multiple consoles, it's a fair expectation that it should play the same on both. I have a PS3, so I can't be expected to go out and buy the 360 version...I don't have both consoles, so that's an unfair thing to say, "maybe he got the wrong version?"

More like "maybe he was right, and the glitches are a problem in a huge, blockbuster title like this"

I never came across any bugs when I played it (PS3), though I fully understand about the NPC's trying to run you off the roads. Especially your prick of a son, he just kept veering right

:( Probably the first review of yours I really don't like at all. Apart from the fact that my 360-version of RDR really didn't let me down very often regarding bugs and glitches, the review doesn't quite "get" the game.

If you don't play the game on "moron" there is no auto-aiming whatsoever, being killed by a puma should learn you the lesson to be observative to your surroundings, you can save whereever you want and don't have to be set back to an old save point, all the tasks you "can" do are necessary to earn in-game-awards (new clothing, better abilities), but the most important thing about RDR (for me that is) is the story and its delivery. It's just brillant. :)

Your review in this case is rather nerdy and completely focused on gameplay and mechanics. That's okay in a racing game or in any arcade-style game, but here it's just missing the point. It's like reviewing Silent Hill 2 and spending 5 minutes on the bulky character movement. Justified, but missing the target.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through it and I've run into zero glitches. Must be a 360/ps3 thing.

It's weird because I agree with most of the criticisms, but still find myself really enjoying it. Much, much more that GTA4. The one thing that bugs me a lot, that he brought up, is not getting any rewards for the challenges. He's not totally correct in that the horse-breaking gives you new horses to buy, but since I've won all the races with the horse I got from the ranching mission, who cares. But all the sharpshooting and whatnot really should give you some kind of reward...

I haven't dipped into the multiplayer yet, I'm waiting for my friends to buy it. But I'm intrigued by the leveling system described by the manual. That might tickle my RPG gland....

You can tell Yahtzee is grasping for straws when he criticizes auto-aim that can be turned off and travel in between quests when you have the option to instant travel between two areas. I have had zero bugs in my version of the game (PS3). I guess some people are just unlucky.

They are funny videos where he rant about things he doesn't like about games. And when there aren't much to rant about, he has to nitpick it to death.
Yes, but he's fielded that argument before. He's not a reviewer, he's a critic. He's also addressed the fact that he doesn't talk about the positives much:

"No on likes it when I'm nice to a game" -Orange Box (I think)

"You didn't come to me to hear how a game is good." -Batman AA

So he, and the rest of us, are well aware that he tends to ignore the good parts of a game. Additionally, all of the complaints he had were valid.

1.The glitches seem to be hit and miss, and more prevalent on the PS3. I haven't seen any, but I've talked to plenty of people who have.

2.There is no happy medium with the aim assist. Auto-aim is too easy on foot, but the manual aiming is too slow and requires too many fingers on a horse. (seriously, I need two thumbs on my right hand to aim and run while on a horse, unless I want to use my left thumb to aim, at which point I can't steer).

4. Personal taste

3. & 5.
"I loved GTAIV" - You
That's why you didn't have a problem with it. You're used to the way the character handles. I didn't mind it either, because I played GTAIV a lot. However, I watched someone who hadn't played GTA and they had a very hard time adjusting to the controls. I had a hard time when I started playing GTA so I know it's the same thing.

Here's a rule of thumb: If you think a game is perfect without any flaws, don't watch Yahtzee's review of it.

Anyone with eyes could'a seen there'd be glitches, what with the internal issues during development, the fact the game was pushed back from it's initial release date, and just how overambitious of a game it was in the first place. Not to mention that it's a current-gen game. You're not allowed to fix all of your bugs and glitches before release, it's like some sort of rule or something. At least the game never crashed or had any kind of fatal issue for me, unlike certain Bioshock 2's I could mention(twice).

Jesus ZP I just don't know what you want from games these days. You cry out for proper sandboxing and when you get it you criticise it for being a timesink. As for complaining about mountain lions doing what mountain lions do. I.e. hunt in packs and attempt rip you open?! You gave your horse a goddamn name for goodness sake - how much more sandboxy can it get?!

Oh, and I really haven't experienced any of the glitches or bugs that are so vehemently described in this review despite playing for about 20 hours. I really think they're overblown.
He's a comedian, not a critic, the sooner you stop taking his reviews seriously, the sooner they become more amusing, trust me, I've stopped taking him seriously for about 4 vids now, and I'm enjoying ZP more as a result. >_<

Purple Monkey Dishwasher?
That's even more random than "Twattycake" from when he reviewed Nier.

You can't while in a mission, and when you get to Mexico, a lot of the missions are "ride your horse across the entire map, listening to forced dialogue, then kill people."

Love the game, but considering some of the fetch quests require you to ride around for a while, it doesn't help the case. However comma, I'm yet to encounter any glitches that actually impacted the game any. I understand I'm probably lucky, but still.

Most engrossing game I've played in a while.

Actually it's from an episode of the simpsons...I'm a dweeb.

Entertaining stuff, although I noticed no bugs and found myself at home with the controls almost immediatly...perhaps I was lucky.

Here is my annoying red dead glitches so far after only 8 hours of gameplay(approx.):

1: Halfway through a horse race mission my hard drive began making a whining sound and suddenly my horse levitated about 30m in the air, and the framerate dropped to probably 2 fps. I galloped straight through a cliff, which killed the horse and Marston began an eternal fall through the floor of the map. I had to restart the console.

2: My horse randomly jumped off a cliff, slid down the face, then randomly died a few gallops later after I got to the bottom. Marston fell off the horse and survived.

3: Literally 20 mins ago whilst I was chasing a bounty, I whistled for my horse so I could chase the bastard down. I then could not mount the horse, and my $400 bounty escaped :( I then got ambushed by a pig, which I killed, yet the game wouldn't let me skin it. I set up camp thinking hmm if I save maybe the interface will reset itself. I was wrong. So I turned the console off and here I am.

tbh during the first 2 glitches I laughed my ass off.

This one kind of disappointed me because of some of the sillier gripes. If you don't mash A and actually walk through doorways you won't have a problem, walking is an option because theres a place for it, and for christsakes just turn the autoaim off! I actually didn't understand the money complaint much either. I found myself short on money a few times, my friend didn't but thats because he skinned a lot of animals and did more side quests, which to me means the money system works just the way its supposed to. oh well, looking forward to next week.
I didn't encounter these glitches either but I heard plenty of other people did.
Actually I found the money system broken. Sure you get $200 - $400 for bounties, but story missions later in the game were giving out $17, $23, or at most $50 when I could go up to the Tall Trees area, stand still, shoot about ten-twelve bears down in five minutes, and make HEAPS of money... the gambling and mini games were the only real way to get money in the game, and after a whole mission of racing my horse, being promised it would fund my need for cash to take on fort mercer... $7... Woot... I'm rich

The thing that i found most odd about this review was that you contently complained about the bugs and glitches. I have played the game for about 20 hours and have only very rarely experienced any of the problems you had. I was using the 360 version, so if its a that was what you where using you might have just had a weird copy of the game and if not then it my just have been a problem with the version you where using.

Aside from the big problem of all targets becoming invisible, and the game freezing afterwards, which is what i was treated to on my first playthrough on the first day of the game, this is a pretty damn good game, because i didn't get anymore serious glitches then (And from what i hear, that was fixed within the first week).

You people that decided not to buy this game because of this one review are insane. You are honestly missing out. There's a reason WHY there's so much dialogue in between reaching A to B in a setting where this is the last piece of the wild west.

And the comment where you are Niko Bellic in spirit? well there is that choice between being a complete psycho and killing innocent civilians, OR actually helping out the countryside.

As usual, yahtzee nickpcks at the games he likes. As's he said before, immersion can make up for a game's flaws. Remember people, he said this game was good and his style is ripping apart a game even if he likes it.

Dear The Escapist,

I don't want to have to stare at some woman with gross noserings that seem to be attached by chains to her hair while watching Zero Puntuation.

Very funny. I have the game and loved it. By the way did you play this on the PS3 because me horse NEVER glitched and I was playing on the 360, now the carts on the other hand would always be stuck in the ground and would NEVER work!
