Rome was sacked multiple times throughout history... so they went with the most outlandishly false version?

I viewed this as a glorified tech demo when I first saw it, but then again so are many other lauch games in past generations. However the constant on rails portions made me think they were going in a Heavy Rain/Asura's Wrath direction but when I saw the real time combat it somehow made it come off worse...

...the actual gameplay that people crave made it look worse... how does one even do that?

I haven't really been keeping up with this game, but... really? Barbarians? They make a game about the Roman Empire, one of the largest, most militarily powerful nations in the ancient world, and the only people they can think up for enemies are Barbarians? Granted, there were some big fights with Barbarians, but in general they were never a real threat to Rome until the very end when it been substantially weakened. Did they just not read the parts about how absolutely crushing the Roman legions were for much of Rome's history?

If they really wanted an 'epic' war story, why not set it during the Punic wars? Carthage was actually one of the few real military threats Rome ever faced. And the bulk of the Carthaginian military was made of mercenaries from all over Africa and the Mediterranean, which gives you quite a large variety of enemy types to choose from for your badguys. Also, Carthage actually had, and used, war elephants. Since any game about Rome has to have them.

The more I hear about how the Xbox one is working, the less I want it.

Seriously it takes that long to install FROM THE DISC!?!? On my ps4, you pop a disc in for the first time and give it a minute and your good to go. I was tempted to try and ask for this system for Christmas but now the more I hear, I think I'll wait till march and wheater to get titanfall for xbox one, pc, or 360.
He does suffer from Australian download speeds. In England for example all three games I've downloaded only took 5 minutes to do in general.

For all it's faults, at-least it's a somewhat original idea for a game. Still, not sure I'd feel right fighting against my own ancestors as the bad guys >.>
It's alright, I had to fight against mine in AC3...

After the horrible E3 presentation and follow-up information, I couldn't wait to hear Yahtzee tear into this game. This video did not disappoint.

One button gameplay? That is surely jetpack joyride! Except jetpack joyride has the thrill factor of losing at least.

A launch title is shit? WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING!?

Honestly I don't know why anyone even buys a console until at least a year after it's come out. It's expensive and it has basically no games. Wait till it gets cheaper and has shit worth playing.

Goddamn, I would have hated to be the staff historian on this project. Sounds like the completely disregarded everything he had to say. Nothing new there mind you, the historian who worked on the Last Samurai was rather put out at the writers for ignoring most of his advice and threw in ninjas and battlefield equipment several hundred years out of date.

I mean seriously Boudica? She is perhaps the most sympathetic of all Rome's enemies, considering that when her husband died her kingdom was annexed, she was flogged and her daughters were raped. Plus the fact that she never left the island makes me wonder how the hell she ended up besieging Rome. There have been a lot of sacks of Rome, why not choose an army that actually did it instead of altering history to make your villain seem more important?

Heh, so my first thought upon seeing the word "Ryse" was more or less correct.

Yeah, they could have gone for Middle Easterners as (some of) the bad guys...

Is it spunkgargleweewee set in ancient Rome, as you said of the trailer in your last E3 video, or have you dropped the use of that label?

I really hoped that this game was good since I really like the idea of playing as a roman soldier, but going by most reviews the game is either oke or bad and considering how I have to buy a xbox one to play it I?m not interested.

Also going by this review the plot is completely ridiculous, if they wanted a enemy that was actually a threat to Rome they should have made a game based on the second Punic war.

Fragging hell, Extra Credits did a series on the Punic Wars in preparation for Rome: Total War II, and it sounds more awesome than anything that the MMS/Spunkgargleweewee genre has produced in years.

Sounds like the game is awful, but seeing "in vino veritas" in the credits made me read it out loud in my Doc Holliday voice, so that cheered me up.

So, next-gen promises even less player agency and more bombastic than ever?
Yeah, that sounds like what I was expecting.

And yet there's always going to be a group of stupid sods who loves it to death because the market is run by twerky magpies.

Seriously, based on what I've seen of the game from demos and footage (beyond ZP), it looks unbelievably BORING. Which is incredible given the amount of bombastic and glitz it has.
