I hope to one day meet Yahtzee, just so I can walk close to him, lean in, and whisper softly: "Painkiller was boring repetitive pile of mediocrity." You know, just to see if that would trigger him. Also, because it was.

I keep kept telling myself I'd buy this just for the Saints Row Dildo Bat but never did.

Now I still want a Shadow Man reboot.

Damnit, can't watch any videos online yet due to current location. Am genuinly interested in the opinion for this game. Only recently completed it and while there are flaws, especially in later level design and enemy/boss health, it was a great journey that brought a lot of gleeful mayhem and chuckles. A sequel can (and looks to) easily improve the weaker points, though not sure how the ending of this title will affect my 'enjoyment' of the follow up.

That would be a great title to modernise! Of all the reboots and remasters, at least Shadowman had a distinct identity and atmosphere equal parts wonder and dread. It could even ride the Souls popularity train, considering the confusing castlevania layout and obscurity of the game. Curses, why isn't this a thing?

I gotta disagree with Yahtzee on this one, I thought Shadow Warrior was quite good, better than any experience I had with the Painkiller series (partially because of how good I thought the swordplay was, since I used it almost exclusively) and another great entry from the superb Flying Wild Hog studio, the creators of the excellent FPS title Hard Reset.

I'm also anxiously awaiting Shadow Warrior 2, it looks tits.

I liked the story, especially the ending. It really painted Hoji as a tragic figure that I quite liked. And there was kind of an arc in the game if you paid attention. If Yahtzee gave some thought to the story, he would have noticed that demons=murder=bad and that Lo Wang didn't want that to happen. He's a merc, not a psychopath. He still likes people and not being being murdered indiscriminately. Lo Wang even said that he was going to stop this because he likes super heroes. Granted, there wasn't really a point where Lo Wang stopped being an asshole until he admits that he used to be one, but it's not like he wants to save the world out of nowhere.

I actually really liked Shadow Warrior. The upgrades were pointless and the story was a joke, but I found all the weapons to be pretty fun (minus a few without any punch) and the sword combat especially fun. Definitely one of the best old-school shooter remakes in a long time and I'm excited for Shadow Warrior 2.

Though I'm curious if Yahtzee is gonna review Twilight Princess HD. I've wanted to hear his opinions on that.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of it either. Nothing really wrong with it, but it didn't suck me in, and the wise cracking was cute at first but it kind of lost its appeal fast.

They made more Painkiller games after the first one? Why am I just hearing about this today?!

I loved Shadow Warrior, but a lot of his gripes are real. But I think it comes from the smaller studio doing a risky thing than anything malicious. Shadow Warrior 2 will hopefully be a better show of the developers ability with the franchise.

Painkiller!
Painkiller!
Painkiller!
Hell Wars!

OT: Huh... This still sounds like a game worth playing through...

Other than that, I honestly forgot about Shadow Man... I blame the Shadowhunters...

Dat level design tho... So awesome... I honestly didn't care that much about the shooting at all because just seeing the epic levels were flat out amazing. That was what stayed with me long after I forgot about the shooting.

This was pretty much my take on the game. Granted I haven't beaten it yet but overall I'm finding it to be a pretty fun game that's a bit different from anything I've played in recent memory and am looking forward to seeing what the sequel can do.

Man, did Yahtzee play the game on easy, or do I just suck that much? I thought the game was actually relatively difficult. I normally play shooters on hard, but I had to go with normal on Shadow Warrior because I was getting my ass handed to me.

There's also a bunch of spinoffs.

Including Dreamkiller, a game in which you're a psychic psychologist who literally dives into people's heads to help them overcome phobias like Spiders, secret societies, machines, heights, insanity, etc...By literally finding things that represent their phobias (like giant demonic spiders, demons, robots, flying dragons, maniac doctors, etc), and blowing them the hell up with a minigun that has a rocket launcher attached, as well as stuff like a fire-spewing dragon tattoo or a shotgun that shoots ice blasts or a solar beam gun.

It's demented and I love it even if it really doesn't do anything really creative with the concept.

Speaking of immature jokes from Shadow Warrior; here's classic:

Yeah, that was racist and stereotypical even for the time. As Yahtzee mentioned, it's a good thing they dropped this like a bad habit in the reboot. I can't wait for the sequel.

Presumably because most of the follow-ups were not very well received.

OT: I liked Shadow Warrior, but I definitely agree it was a bit too long. Though, it took me far longer than eight hours to get through it, probably because I did spend a lot of time trying to explore for secrets (most of which I still ended up missing somehow).

Shadow Warrior isn't bad, but it's definitely rough around the edges. I think a little polish and a lot of note-taking might help any sequels or future attempts at projects like this.

On a tangent, I found the Viscera Cleanup Detail expansion based on Shadow Warrior rather amusing, if only because 'throw things into indoor stream' was now a viable solution.
