No, that is the entire game, and more, since the twist in the end is that there is more of the same after you complate the game.

Same. No idea why its so praised. Not saying its bad. But like Darkest Dungeon and Borderlands, I just don't get it.
I swear the internet is trying to bait me sometimes:

Its Earthbound/Mother for Indie Hipsters and "Games are ART" crowd.

Its a game that turns the RPG gameplay to its ugly head. As if RPGs are soley defined by killing and grinding. Heck the plot feels like it came out of a Creepypasta.

The tone can be so inconsistant with 1 second you hear a somber and etheral sounding music and the next you see this clown of a character in the form of Papyrus.

Case in point I just hate these kinds of Indie games.

Count me in the ring for "thoroughly unimpressed by undertale (and even further turned off by its fans)". It's Yahtzee's list though, so he's free to put whatever the hell he wants wherever he wants.

Funny way to avoid breaking your own rules, Yahtzee :p.

Damn, wasn't that a low year. Yahtzee had to make a second list for games he didn't like. Quite the rocky year for the worst list though, It's pathetic how the games with the largest funds and the most expensive talent (not necessarily the best talent) can turn into such boring or just poorly designed slop that overshadows all the games made with actual passion coming from human beings.

Damn this is depressing.
Wow! I mean i have doubleposted myself before, but that sh** is truly impressive!
And i personally thought this was one of the best years for games. Witcher 3, Undertale all great games. There were always more sh**ty games that yathzee could put on any of his worst games list, that he did it this year just shows how tired he has gotten form bland games, not how much the quality of the game dropped.
The funniest thing is, his username is very appropriate: "HaywirePoet"

On topic, I did NOT see the "Blandest" list coming. At all. I wonder if that will be returning next year? If so, the Blandest Blands are going to make guessing really hard next year.

Bottom, in no order, more than 5:
Godzilla(preeeetty sure this is going to show up)
The Order : 1886(same as above)
Alone in the Dark : Illumination
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Star Wars : Battlefront
Rise of the Tomb Raider (character irritation factor)
Assassin's Creed Syndicate (franchise irritation factor)

Edit: Maaaaaybe Broken Age : Act 2 as well. From the review, sounds like the second half was phoned in. Switch the two characters, aaaaand... they just adjust perfectly? Bwuh?
Aside from Broken Age Act 2, every single one showed up, bottom 5 or in the 5 blandest blands. Didn't call Hatred being in the Bottom 5, though.

Just seems to me the #1 shouldn't be controversial, or at least should be a game that is universally loved. Amongst my group of friends, I honestly would say its a pretty tight 50/50 split over who thinks Undertale is worth playing or not.
I think that's an absolutely wrong attitude to have. For starters, it's a dude's personal list, so whatever ranks ranks.

Also, for a reviewer to cater to a preconceived notion of what is best is for them to make themselves redundant and thus unnecessary. Plus, something universally loved isn't necessarily the best, just on average inoffensive or some level of good. The first Marvel's Avengers movie is pretty universally loved, but for a lot of movie fans wouldn't rank anywhere close to as high as a film like 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is polarizing among people, but evokes a much greater reaction from its fans than the latest action blockbusters normally do. Undertale's controversy and fanbase woes come from the fact the the people who enjoy it really love it. It definitely doesn't click with some people, but a bunch of the players who do get it get really affected by it and then attached to it. It clicked for Yahtzee enough for him to break his own rule just to put it at the top of his list.

For disclosure, I'm a self-professed Undertale fanboy, so I do have that reason to defend Yahtzee's position, but I don't think that makes my point any less valid.

I can't go with him on Elite: Dangerous, it bored the pants off me. But, that is a niche game and it the sort of thing it makes sense would appeal to him. I like the addition of a Top 5 Blandest games list, that was a fun touch. Surprised Fallout 4 wasn't on that one.

Also, you can't call Undertale a hipster SJW game anymore when it's Yahtzee's game of the year, and TotalBiscuit's second favourite game. For a start, the final genocide run boss is probably harder than anything in Dark Souls.

So I guess I need to pick up Undertale at some point, then...

Spiffing way to end the year, Yahtzee. Good show.

I thought Undertale was a very solid and well-done RPG. I liked most of the characters, the story had some unique and interesting twists, and the soundtrack was the best one I've heard all year.

That said, I understand why some people don't like it, and the fanbase has quickly gotten ridiculous. Though I suppose that happens when something gets popular.

I don't know where these rabid crazy fans of Undertale are.

I feel like I see so many more rabid haters of Undertale who comment about Undertale and its fans whenever they can.

That kind of thinking encompasses everything that's wrong with the "AAA" games industry. Why try anything different or unique or possibly polarizing (though as a fan of Undertale, I believe that the only reason the game is so polarizing is because its fanbase has exceeded Sonic levels of horridness, but I digress) when you can pick something safe that everyone can agree is good enough?

Literally any social media platform where games are discussed.

It took me roughly two days after first hearing about Undertale to become utterly sick of it and I've not even played it. I'm sick of the very concept of it because the fanbase alone has outright put me off. Maybe I'll play it in a year or two if it ever gets really cheap and when people finally stop going on and on.

Woo! Extra-length video this time! Anyway, it's nice to see that a game like Undertale has to be doing something right when it could touch even Yahtzee's cold black heart... So yeah, good list, and the addition of a third category was a nice touch.

Right? I feel like there's this propensity to label fan-bases as rotten and horrible because someone somewhere has an overly annoying zealous friend who likes aforementioned 'thing'. And because of that the thing MUST be bad.

And then there's the people who 'just don't like that sort of thing' who sadly can't get away from the thing online and I empathize with them. I didn't like something everyone else liked once too (The legend of Korra hype on my medium on choice was feverish and I just...didn't care) , it sucks, but you gotta just bare with it until something new comes along instead of lashing out.

Anyway, good list, the breaking of the rules at the start made me laugh genuinely.

Me neither, honestly. The only thing (from what I've seen) that the fanbase seems to be guilty of is liking the game a lot... and porn. All the porn. But that's literally everything. There doesn't seem to be any animosity floating about, and when there is, it's usually in direct response of people that aren't impressed by it getting really antagonistic about its popluarity.

And I gotta say.. if a bunch of people not shutting up about something I couldn't care less about is what makes a fanbase shitty, then maaaan, there are a lot of them I feel like it's my duty to hate now. 'Ey Skyrim fans! C'mere! I got some shit to talk to you about! No, you don't know me... but you will.

----------

OT: I take a lot of frequent breaks from Yahtzee these days... and videos like this always make me forget why I did that. Hardest I've laughed in a while.

I disagree with the halo 5 being blandest. It was a refreshing throwback to arena shooters with balance and just tight tight gameplay.

I'm not sure how the demo worked, but it took me awhile to really get into Undertale. Really it wasn't till about half way through that things started to come together. Then the closer I got to the ending, the better it got. To the point where I completely get why it deserves game of the year, maybe more than that considering how much it does and in such a way as I've never seen in such a way before.

So yeah, Undertale number one, deserves it.

Really? You think throwing in a literal last second review for Undertale isn't playing it safe? You think Undertale fans would have been okay if he never even acknowledged the game?
Somehow I really doubt it.

Check out the Escapist best game of the year thread. No one cares that Witcher III won and UT got zero mentions. Everyone's saying it's a good choice. People in the recent Critical Miss comic are more comedically upset that Rocket League lost, rather than UT. The only reason anyone would've brought it up is because of the Extra Punctuation he did making people curious as to why he didn't mention it in this year's round up.

Please don't do that.

Well first off, I'm pretty sure Yahtzee doesn't care what Undertale fans think. And I believe he had every intention of including it on his list as soon as he was finished playing it; he's stated numerous times that the reason he didn't do a review for it is because he thinks people should play it knowing as little as possible and that watching a review could spoil the game.
