Valve has now been contacted. Could anyone suggest any other designers that may be worth an E-Mail?

1. zombies DON'T give up ... EVER

2. there should be some areas designed to split players up

3. there should be no radar, no means of communication or knowing where you are unless you find a map or walky talky in an town abandoned town somewhere .. you start with a compass and that's that

4. enthisis should be on travel, scavenging and survival ... not 1 sprint from point A to B ... sessions should last hours

5. a realistic player damage/healing/hunger/thirst/fatigue system should be used

6. lone survival should be very difficult but NOT impossible

7. more than 50 people should be able to play at one time ... there will be loners/dickheads/hero's/team players .. just like real life (i'm m talking personalities not classes XD)

8. there should be medics/survivors/jack of all trades/cop/thief ... now i'm talking classes

I was reading through the comments on the Zombie MMO thread last night, rather than sleeping and it got me thinking: though a zombie MMORPG most probably couldn't work, some of the ideas posted in that thread were absolutely brilliant and game developers really must be informed of these ideas.

My idea is something of a cross between Left 4 Dead and CoD 5's Nazi zombies. The game would involve running to the next safe area, fighting through waves of zombies until you find a means of rescue. However, I thought, instead of the saferooms like in Left 4 Dead, I was thinking that when you attract enough attention through noise made or just foolishly running into hordes of zombies, you would have to take cover in a nearby house.

Here is where the Nazi Zombies element comes in. When you get into the house you will barricade the door and windows to help hold off the horde. The horde will be able to pull apart the obstacles you've set but you would be able to repair them, either with tools or furniture available in the house. the zombie hold-off can last for anything between 5-20 minutes depending on the difficulty. The zombies would eventually be reduced in numbers enough for you to fight your way through them, or they would just see it as pointless and go away, allowing you to carry on.

This is just a little something I thought up before sleeping last night. Please feel free to criticise or post your ideas.

Thanks,
Eff.
Well for me........

I hope a zombie RPG/FPS thats has a open world.......I wanna do anything......let me gives some examples somewhere it will be a better Fallout 3....
Eg. Get supplies/hold up in a mall (Dead Rising)
Eg. Hold up in an anbandoned building (COD 5: Zombies)
Eg. Find out who created and stop the zombie virus (Resi Evil)
Eg. Create a small settlement/town/city
Eg. Hold up somewhere (city/house/ETC) to build up stuff (From a super car train with weapons from Dawn of the Dead comic to a ultimate base.....but depends on lvl)
Eg. Good online
Eg. Save suvivors/find them in houses....

I hope someday this will happen and I will be their and own zombies....also please not a MMO...I dont wanna go on the internet.....

EDIT: and also something thats not like Dead Rising....more Fallout 3/COD
Please pitch this idea to as many game companies as you can...I want this game!
ha I will........I definly will....probly E-Mail but WHICH GAME COMPANY!!

Infinity Ward: Will make it good but lvls.
Bethesda: I dont know but half the people thought their games where bad....which makes it that people will complain (No VATS)
Bioware: They like putting their games in 3rd person mode...but FP mode is good/better mabey.

any other game companys....please discuss....or E-mail the companys them-self about this idea......I would love to see this game..........and I think I can see this getting made....
Maybe Valve? They have experience with zombie fps and wouldn't drown you with too much detail...not to mention they'd probably give it a dawn of the dead ('78 version) esque sense of humor...

since it would be an open world game, Rockstar North would be another great contender, seeing as how they have the best experience with them from GTA...
I'm contacting Valve as we speak. They have made some great zombie games imo.
The problem is that Valve already have a zombie game franchise. And everyone working in the game industry already has more ideas than they know what to do with. If you're serious about this getting made, you'll have to do it yourself.

Begging won't work. You do realise these companies pay people within the company to come up with ideas and write design documents, right?

When I saw I Am Legend, I realized that this would make the perfect video game.

Think about it. Put all of the story out of your mind - while the curing the infection idea is a noble endeavour, we'd rather blow those zombies away than make them better, right? That's what I thought. But what I thought was that being that last surviving human on an entire, large-sized island is pure gaming gold.

You have a window of time every day to search for essential supplies. Some buildings are danger zones - dungeons if you like - where enemies are likely to be hiding in the dark. If I was designing this game, I would make these buildings house some of the best items - risk versus reward is always a winning formula in a video game. Weapons and ammunition would come later, which would dovetail the initial part of the game nicely to the more combat-heavy and difficult sections. Example: on Day Zero Plus One, you search for the essentials, which would be food, water, and barricading supplies. That night, you hole up in your house with your few meager weapons - a personal handgun, perhaps, with limited bullets - and feverishly await the sunlight. Day Zero Plus Two, you search for better barricading supplies, more food and water, and perhaps a shotgun or more handgun bullets. Maybe you search for a new safe house that is better defended, or closer to the supplies you need. This would, in my opinion, lead to an excellent standoff between how well supplied and armed you are versus how conspicuous your house is (maybe you set up a radio antenna to call for survivors, or set up Will Smith style "light mines" around your house) and how big of a target you're making yourself. This could go on for months.

I love this idea, because in my head you can do what you like. Explore, steal cars, loot stores, make traps, go hunting, or just plain hang out with your dog and hope to Christ you don't get eaten. This is how a zombie game should go - not another soul in the world, and how well you make out depends solely on your forethought, your supplies (even heroes need to eat), and your defenses.

Also, adding a few little features to covering your tracks would be bad f'ing ass. Remember when Will Smith covered his steps with that liquid on his way home to throw off the scent? That sort of smarts would lead to greater success in my perfect "zombie" game.

God damn that would be so awesome.

Depending on the Ai of the Zombies, controls, and general customability of hide outs and such, like perhaps strengthen the defenses and slipping out the back for Example to help devert them,
also it wont quite Work as a MMO unless theres a Fixed place or places to go, skills making weapons and armor, and perhaps if you do it enough you get better at making Stronger defenses with less, or Examining zombies for Weakness: my example is perhaps theres a Large Zombie that can break Defenses easy. you take one down the hard way and Examine its remains and that tells you disabling its legs makes it Easier to kill.

Sorry but no one will really do this idea, or any idea for that matter. Best thing is to make the game yourself but thats kinda impossible.. :p

My personal opinion for a good Zombie game would be L4D crossed with S.T.A.L.K.E.R you have the whole combat style of L4D and the free roam of S.T.A.L.K.E.R

I hate the new fast zombies. They piss me off and don't seem very realistic.

I think, for a massive amount of realism, horror, etc., all the zombies should conform to the zombie rules, as featured in Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide. This means they shuffle, and anything they bite instantly turns, including the player. This makes for a very difficult but very horrifying and probably addictive game.

What I'm talking about here is a survival horror game, not unlike Left 4 Dead but unlike it in several ways. Zombies only die with decapitation or destruction of the brain. This adds a lot to the horror and thrill of the game in addition to difficulty and entertainment value (I breezed through House of the Dead II and III).

Things that I think would be great to include are:

-visceral combat akin to Condemned
-highly realistic zombies which do not shuffle, but walk
-human enemies as well (bandits, etc.)
-having to look for food, needing rest
-Lots of replay value
-Need to take care of weapons
-Teaming up with people
-Being able to build/capture/maintain a safe fortress or fortress-like building (house, prison, military base, school) to live in
-Being able to carry only a realistic amount of weapons and ammo
-Character development and customization akin to an RPG, but less like WoW and more like Bethesda's TES series
-Finding survivors, etc. and interacting with them as you wish
-Completely unscripted gameplay
-Realistic weapons (no freakin' beast guns of destruction that turn everything to a fine pink powder)
-Time being an important concept
-Game does not end, only continues, again, akin to TES (or at least Morrowind)
-Large gameworld (ie. a capital city)
-Zombie virus transferred in every way that AIDS can be
-Choice between first and third-person perspective
-A vast array of melee and ranged weapons as well as improvised weapons (and the ability to make them) such as molotov cocktails, crowbars, etc.

This is a lot to ask, I know. But if all of this is implemented I think they could make the best zombie game ever.

Sounds good, but I don't know if any company would make anything like it... but if you did it, cause no one else would it'd be one of a kind for a year or so if it catches on.

Personaly what I would like a see is a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. style zombie game. If you ever played the mentioned game, or downloaded any of the mods that added ridiculous ammounts of creatures, and one which I recall that made the night time a true nightmare.

To give an example, when I was walking down an area I saw lots of dead soldiers all about the place. Not taking much note I walked on, then it happened. First one dog jumped out, then the next... suddenly there were tens of them. I ran like a sissy to a building and climbed up a ladder and hoped they will not get to me through another route. Of course, the dogs did not leave and I had to kill them, making every shot count.

That's how I would imagine a zombie game. Where you cannot feel safe because at any moment death could just jump out and maw you down. Where even when you have plenty of supplies you might be forced to waste them in just one encounter. Where even when you found other survivors you would not trust to leave your things with them, when scavenging spots would dry up, and every can of beans would count.

If all of this could be done in an MMO, that would be great, but it would be very hard at the same time.

Ideas arent worth anything, everyone has their own ideas they think are good, anyone in the position to "execute" ideas will have their own ideas. If you want something made YOUR way either pay for it or do it yourself, thats the only option..

speaking as a designer, your idea doesn't sound as great as you think. you would have people try to do two things at once, and that just doesn't work. in order for a player to do repairs, she would have to sheathe/drop her weapon and start repairing for an amount of time. add to that the time spent running around scavenging resources to repair with in the first place. all this while you're under pressure from a horde of zombies, and while you have at least the scavenging/repairing person NOT shooting.

valve did a good job in left for dead by making doors appropriate obstacles from the horde of zombies. doors are easy: you close them and they work as protection. you get much further than that, it gets too hard for the survivors. i'd even go so far as to say that the people designing left 4 dead probably brought something similar up, but discarded it due to the player constraints involved.

How bout a zombie game where the remaining human survivors are raiding the land and you have to make moral decisions deciding whether to join the raiders or try to discover how the zombies came to be.
