And doesn't having a real time inventory system increase tension? In a zombie movie you never see the zombies waiting around for the heroes to get another gun out, do you? Having no breaks to do anything important in a zombie game will increase tension, I can assure you.
You haven't played Resident Evil 5. The real time inventory in that game was done like crap and was one of the more common complaints. It didn't increase tension, it increased frustration.

Yeah zombies don't wait for people to get a different gun out in movies, but granted heroes don't stand in a locked position to get their gun out either. This game seems to rely on the real time inventory as a feature, which means you'll be using it A LOT. It's going to take away from the game just like it did for Resident Evil 5.

You haven't played Dark Souls/Demon's Souls. Those both had real time inventories and they were both very good and increased the difficulty and tension of the game. I have played Resi 5.

I was interested in this game.... until I saw the mandatory motion control gimmick crap was back and that nintendo is trying the same crap but with HD graphics. No nintendo I do not want to swing around your little tablet, the nunchuck and remote were annoying enough.

Hey if you enjoy the motion control more power to you. I just thought for once nintendo learned their lesson.

I just don't see the system being conducive to a horror game or even a horror/action of the likes we are used to seeing, nevermind that the game is pretty much just "A zombie game" with very little to make it stand out. You walk through a badly lit, FEAR esq looking corridor setup and kill a few zombies with a few scripted jump scares. Fart. Not into it. Welcome to 2005.

All my instincts tell me this is going to be a bit of a thrown together semi tech-demo. All the stuff with the touch-pad just seems like a recipe for a potential input clushter-fuck "Fuck where do i have to input that again, oh fuck i died fumbling with the controller AGAIN".

Its "Wave arms to make stuff happen!" all over again, its needless. Looking from screen to screen is not challenging its just distracting especially in the setting of a tense Zombie game. Plus Ubisoft can be a little patchy in the launch games department, they like to keep their hand in but efforts can fall flat. Remember Red Steel? **Shudder**
Putting "One Massive ZombiU boner later" because I like the look of the game is a low blow. And the thing that makes it different is the fact that it actually looks like a traditional zombie game, something we haven't had in a LONG time. You have to shoot the head, one bite and you're dead, very little ammo and zombies shuffle instead of run. But still, let's wait for this bloody game to come out before insulting someone for liking it, please?

You speak as if you know what's best for the industry despite not even being a part of it. You attempt to invalidate others' opinions despite them being perfectly grounded in reality. You pass judgement on something you've not even actually experienced yet. Maybe if you were interested in having an actual discussion instead of desperately trying to validate your own views by condemning everyone else's as if you are some all knowing game design and industry guru we could actually have a discussion that went somewhere.
No he's not, (no worse than what anyone else has done in this thread at least) he's just expressing his opinion about Nintendo, one that I happen to completely agree with actually. Why do I get the feeling that you wouldn't be saying this if he wasn't criticising Nintendo?

OT: Meh, looks like any other zombie game with the added benefit of a control scheme that seems far too distracting for my liking, and the actual gameplay looks kinda clunky. I'll stick to Left 4 Dead thanks.
I was referring to some of the earlier things he said in this thread, such as:

As if nobody in the entire world could possibly earnestly like what they made or get the wii for something other than specs. He speaks about the game not in a speculative way but in a prophetic way as if it's inevitable. Also I don't appreciate being construed as biased simply because I like Nintendo.

I can tell already from how you have to look at the tablet controller mabober that is your inventory, it is going to be incredibly jarring.

It doesn't look all that special, looks kind like a bland RE5 (comparing it to the add-on with Jill). But maybe it'll look better by the ship date, so, it has that going for it...kind of.

Nothing beats the atmosphere of Resident Evil but this still looks pretty good. I love me some zombie action so I'm psyched.

The Wii is renowned for shovelware, as is Kinect - and I haven't even heard anything about Move in a year.

The Wii also has some of the best Nintendo first party games they've ever made. It also has the virtual console, which is no doubts the best way to get retro console games. It's not the best console this generation, but it is definitely not the worst console ever.

Well my response to that would theoretically be that you don't need to pay £180 to reacquaint yourself with much, much older games but as I am unsure as to the legality of said process, I could not possibly condone, name or comment on it. But I'm sure if I were to give a name to such a process in said theoretical post then it'd begin with E and rhyme with masturbation.

ToastiestZombie, it seems to me that you are trying way too hard to defend a game that isn't out yet, and that we have no idea if it will be good or not. People have legitimate concerns about it, and that's okay. But, there is no way to alleviate any of these concerns (nor convince anybody that the game will be a pile of shit, for that matter) because none of us have been able to actually play the game for a significant amount of time. Therefore, we won't be able to know how well any of the gimmicks will hold up for extended periods of play, and that's something we won't know until the things actually out. However, assuming that it won't hold up is valid (albeit a bit pre-emptive) because of people's experience with the Wii.

That doesn't mean you can't still be excited for it, but you shouldn't try to convince people that it will be the greatest thing ever, because it won't work and it will just leave everybody mad at each other.

Anyway, as far as my impressions of the trailer, ZombieU looks like something to keep my eyes on, but I'm really concerned that they're trying to use every single feature of the WiiU, because most games I've played that do that sort of thing end up being worse because of it.

And before anybody tries to claim I hate Nintendo or something, I actually like the Wii, and I don't think motion controls are the worst thing to happen to gaming. That said, a lot of mistakes were made with the Wii, and I hope those aren't repeated. I also really want to be sold on the WiiU, but I haven't seen nearly enough to convince me that it would be worth a purchase.

Actually I have played Demon's Souls/Dark Souls and I already have an answer for their real time inventories.

They don't require you to NOT look at the game your playing.

They aren't in constant use because of the kinds of games that the Souls games are. Their games that don't require the player to repeatedly use the inventories. You don't need to switch sets of armour during a fight. Dark/Demon's Souls has an excellent real time inventory because it doesn't stop the game at all.

ZombieU however has the player looking at the damn tablet every few seconds. It's using the tablets features every chance it gets, almost to the point where most of the game is played via the tablet. And even if you play the game without the tablet, you're still going to have to pull out that in game PDA every ten seconds or so and that's even more annoying. That's the kind of use of inventory that made RE:5 suck. RE:5 was a game that had you in your inventory all the time and the real time inventory system made RE:5 a slow slug to play through. Having to "pause" the game and go through your inventory just to get green herbs to heal yourself while a mob of infected people still get to attack you is obscene.

Wow, the game has gotten much better since I last saw it and I liked it a lot then so now it looks incredible. Just watching the video made me tense, something horror games never did for me before yet here I am WATCHING someone else playing one that's making me tense. I don't know what it is about it, maybe that the zombies seem so unstoppable?

It looks like it'd be something I really enjoy, it's got lots of elements that seem real cool and I'd be tempted to buy a WiiU just for this if I didn't know better. That and I never buy a console at launch, I always wait a while so games can actually come out for it, that and ZombieU itself looks like it misses a few things that would really tickle my zombie game desires.

I've always wanted an open world zombie game ala fallout or skyrim where I have to survive and manage resources all the while exploring an awesome open world environment. Some games have gotten really close but always seem to mess something else up, it's a real shame that ZombieU isn't open world otherwise I'd be all over it.

Ok, let me go through the biggest selling systems this generation:
The Nintendo DS, using a touch screen which "breaks immersion" and "is a fad"
The Nintendo Wii, using a motion controller which "breaks immersion" and "is a fad".
The Nintendo 3DS looks to be the biggest selling handheld in the next generation, using a 3d effect which "breaks immersion" and "is a fad".

Nintendo is so popular because they innovate. Think, if Nintendo just releases an Xbox but with Mario on it would people buy it? No, because it would be exactly the same as the Xbox which does that stuff already. It's the reason the Vita has failed so far, it's trying to emulate a PS3 without doing anything really new but make the prices higher and the graphics better.
I gotta side with the Toast Pony here.

The Wii U game pad looks AWESOME, to say the least, and I think being forced to look at the controller and not your surroundings will embellish the horror experience, not diminish it.

Not to mention, the way that the guy was looking inside that briefcase coincides perfectly with how you would be looking at/holding your controller.

---

And who said the 3DS's 3D breaks immersion? The extended depth literally makes me feel like I'm inside my handheld. It doesn't get more immersive than that.
