Did Tim Langdell get a job at Zynga or something? This sounds an awful lot like that edge ownership nonsense all over again.
Curse you for ripping off my post, going back in time and posting it before I could! :p

I guess it's time for me to make VilleVille, where you play as a social marketing network group, and your whole job is to steal ideas from other social marketing network groups, try to make them better, more popular, and more addictive.

Somebody MAY get the self parody, but most of the idiots will be asking about buying stuff to stay ahead of the curve. Of course, being a total dick, my prices would be so high that nobody except total idiots with way too much money on their hands would actually buy anything.

blingville, the ville version of Mafia Wars.

the reason zynga has more than 2 games is that they just reskin the same junk bullshit AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

shigera miyamoto is spinning in his grave 70 years in the future.

On one hand, yes, -ville in a social network game was done by Zynga, and Blingville is absolutely using that to their advantage without giving Zynga credit. As much as I don't like Zynga, this is a pretty straightforward case in their favor. On the other hand, the idea of Zynga getting screwed over by someone else infringing on THEM is absolutely hilarious.

Having watched The Social Network yesterday the idea of a Cease and Desist letter with regard to anything relating to Facebook amuses me.

And yet again people misunderstand a copyright argument.

If Blingville were actually a word, Zynga would have no case. But this is obviously a shameless attempt to leech some of their success.

Someone made a comment about God of War and Gears of War. That's retarded. If someone made a third person hack and slash game exclusive to PS3 called Deity of War, then there'd be an issue. Similarly if someone made a shooter called Cogs of war exclusive for the 360 then there'd be an issue. This copyright of ville only works against copycats who make only social games. It only applies to media that is in direct competition. Adding the suffix "ville" onto another word to make a facebook game is such an obvious and shameless ripoff of Zynga's games. Are people actually retarded enough to believe this means Zynga would just outright own the suffix "ville"?
When you consider some of the cases over the last year, wouldn't surprise me.

I mean "Edge" already had it's whiny PMSing fit.

Zynga relying on the law? Isn't that one of the four signs of the apocalypse?
A douchebag company abusing every bit of leverage they can get to quash their competition?
That isn't a sign of anything other than the natural order of the world.

No, the real beauty of the story here is that Zynga doesn't want anyone ripping off or parodying their games which are already ripping off other games.
