What you're suggesting is wonderful and reasonable, what the Democrats are suggesting is also good, but I've been arguing with people here and elsewhere for the last week who reject in no uncertain terms the idea of police entirely, because they believe in the virtue of anarchy and/or because they believe police are just a defense of systemic oppression.

I think it's more than people can be a little hyperbolic after they've watched too many videos of the police firing rubber bullets into the faces of wheelchair-bound homeless people and tear-gassing pregnant women who were minding their own business.

The only people who truly believe the police shouldn't exist at all probably are the anarchists, and they're pretty rare.

While I’m not an anarchist myself (I’m firmly on the Marxist side of the socialist divide) and find most of their goals and methods to be fairly idealistic (by a very literal definition of idealistic), gotta admit that founding an autonomous zone in the middle of Seattle is ballsy. A St. Paul man has been charged in connection to the fires set at the Minneapolis Police Department's Third Precinct during unrest in the city two weeks ago.

One of the men who helped burn the Third Precinct has been arrested and charged.

While he has so far only been charged with that, his eyes and build looks A LOT like the guy who hammered the windows of the Autozone that was also lit on fire (this is strictly my opinion, nothing in the news or any charges for that building is against him as of now).

While not an "outside agent" as the news calls them (since he's from MN), it also seems pretty clear to me that he was not there to protest based on what we know. He showed up to riot, not march for Justice.

That is assuming you think all violence is amoral. It was found to be morally acceptable to kill Nazis during WW2 and after via death sentences. It is considered Moral to kill ISIS. Antifa literally only exists because of the original Nazi's threat to others. Nazis and other racist groups have long been a serious threat to people's lives and sadly, instead of having the police protect the people, often the racists ARE police or have influence among them and this has left people with little options for help thus also increases the growth of Antifa. Antifa is not about not being violent, they are along the line of " Use force to stop Nazi's from ever being able to harm people again" Now although there are Anarchists and Anticapitalists who are also Antifa, that does not mean that all Antifa are anarchists or anticapitalists.
