That is fucking awesome. My high school art teacher hated Bob Ross because he made it seem like "anyone" can paint... this proves him (Ross) correct. I'm not a religious man, but I am a spiritual one, and I believe Bob Ross to be one of the purest souls ever to grace our presence. He's just a guy who was born, made life better, then died; few of us can claim something so simple and yet so profound.
Yeah, your art teacher seemed to have a very limited idea of what it meant to be a painter. I mean, considering the random shit that is considered "painting" stuff like Jackson Pollack, and other...I forget the style of art, but where it's just like, a blue dot on a white canvas, and that's "art", I call BS on saying that anything anyone splatters onto a canvas isn't art. Now, I do think a lot of that stuff isn't GOOD art, in that I personally don't give a shit about your blue dot on white canvas. It doesn't say anything bold to me. But I'm fine with you calling it art. But, yeah, ANYONE can paint, just like anyone can sing. Quality is of course variable, and some will be more naturally skilled at it than others. But it's a skill, like everything else, and pretty much any human can learn it.

He was actually my favorite teacher in high school; his curriculum was “come in and do whatever you want,” draw, paint, sculpt, etc. But he hated Bob Ross because he made art so seemingly accessible (because that’s a bad thing?) I didn’t agree, but he was one of very few adults willing to engage us youths on an intellectual level beyond student and teacher. Every day, he allowed one of us to bring in a CD for everyone to listen to while we worked, and he would talk to us about our choice, i.e.: what makes its special; what should I be taking away from it? It was the first time I felt like a grown person with opinions and not just a kid following rules and direction.

I argued that “art” need not be an exercise of talent, but one of expression. That video shows me people expressing themselves and gaining an appreciation of said expression; Bob Ross was a master class of that kind of thinking. It doesn’t have to be objectively great if it’s “you.” We may not have agreed, but he grew me up more than most of my teachers.

...that just...that' seems to be a very strange stance to hold, when your job is to literally try and get an entire class to "come in and do whatever you want." To express themselves, and it's ok. Because that's basically exactly what Ross was doing. I just, I don't get that. It's completely contrary to what he's doing. *shakes head*

To be fair, he wasn't actively "anti-Bob Ross." He just didn't appreciate how he made it look so simple and that any and everyone could pick up a brush and create evocative landscapes. He didn't consider Ross' work "art" so much as it was "commercial." I know, it's strange, but he encouraged us more to be ourselves and less to be like anyone else. Ross' technique is easily repeatable, but not necessarily self-expression. But what I take away from that video you shared is that sometimes, all it takes is to show someone "they can" to urge out their real selves. If anyone in that video went on to actually enjoy painting outside of the novelty of a You Tube video, then Bob Ross would be happy, and that's what I love the most.

The first three minutes of this documentary:

At first it left my mouth agape, then it made me smile and/or laugh. Though it might require knowledge that everyone might not possess.

Lol, this is so stupid, it's brilliant. Is it wrong to be jealous of people with this much time and talent on their hands?

Methinks the tigers just weren’t hungry enough, or perhaps just don’t know wtf to think about a bird like that which is almost certainly not a part of their natural habitat.

Daaaaamn, what a badass!

I dunno. I've seen a video from an utter asshole who put a chicken with her chicks in a small room and then let loose a cobra in there and that mother hen was not fucking around. Just because an animal isn't a carnivore doesn't mean they can't mess you up.

I imagine the hen could peck and claw, but geese…idk what they have? Webbed feet and small teeth. They look weird (not to mention enjoy shitting all over the place) which could be intimidating to anyone caught off guard or with a mild/passive disposition. But, one quick swipe from that tiger’s paw would literally eliminate the neck area of a goose.
