Put it this way, politics aside (I am very apolitical, I didn't say "politicians,") I trust educated people from the CENTER OF DISEASE CONTROL and myriad other medically-focused organizations which thus far have not conflicted in their messaging far more than random yahoos on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and random gaming forums who think they know better simply because they think they know better and "muh freedumbs!"
I also trust the people from the Center of Disease Control. Are you aware, the CDC recommended against business closures outside of the direst of circumstances? Do you know that before this pandemic, before it was made political, the general guidance on masks was that good masks were of benefit when working with those at high risk of respiratory illness, basic cloth masks could be good for protecting people from yourself if you have symptoms such as coughing or sneezing, but otherwise masks are recommended for everyday use? Like, I like that you say "politics aside", I agree politics only messes with these things, but you need to actively push the politics aside to see the truth. Politics doesn't care if you're apolitical personally, politicians are going to put themselves into the messaging, and all the organizations that directly made the rules state-by-state were all trying to know better than the CDC. Like the teachers' unions were pushing for school closures while the pediatric society said it was worse for the children's health to stay at home.
It is not one political group that has disregarded the experts. Nobody listened to the CDC.
Its cute that you think that and people might have gone ahead and done that, if some dumb fucks hadn't made masks and social distancing and the vaccine part of the idiotic culture war bull shit they love to peddle. Cause remember, as long as no one knows what is correct then everything is possible.
Ok, but it was as much or more the Democrats that did that. Democrats made masks and social distancing and vaccines part of the idiotic culture was bull shit they love to peddle. Remember, when Trump closed the border to China, they called it racist and told people to go visit Chinatown. When Trump was pushing the vaccine, the media called him a liar for saying it would be ready in the fall, and the current vice president said she wouldn't get it if it was. They flipped on all these things, but the current state isn't much better, where Democrats have been vaccinated but don't want to stop masking because they've made wearing masks into a political symbol. Lots of Republicans don't want to wear masks because Democrats deliberately made it a sign of partisan support for them.
I'd like to know how you feel urgent messages from leaders around the world to wear masks and get vaccines *should* have been better communicated. Because if I'm in a plane that's going down, the last thing I need is a flight attendant offering me a warm towel and "suggesting" I assume the crash position.
The messaging in early spring of 2020 was pretty close to spot on. Once upon a time, social distancing was a recommendation, and just about everyone did it. Masks were a suggestion, and people were getting them (so aggressively that Fauci worried about hospitals running out). Democrats and Republicans were talking about how they were working together against a pandemic, and how pleased they were with state and federal cooperation. That was great. My state, as an example, set standards basically in line with CDC recommendations. Then, all of a sudden, Democrats decided that a pandemic was their opportunity to get Trump. The CDC standards were replaced with arbitrary business closures and strict mandates. Whatever the federal government was saying or doing, Democrats in state governments made a point of declaring it irresponsible and insufficient, and decided to take drastic measures into their own hands, which immediately backfired.
Like, if something is important, you stress the importance. You work with others to stress the importance. The moment you try and take away people's freedoms, they will fight you. And if you make it a partisan pissing contest, you've given up entirely.
