Silly goose.
Fauci got it wrong on masks, that means he was wrong on everything.
Trump got it right on cutting off international travel from China, so Trump is right on everything.
Conservative logic!
It's perhaps worth pointing out that we can't actually pin even that on Fauci, because that same interview from which that characterization is drawn made it clear that he was saying that in the sense of
triage. At the time, they didn't know that Covid was contagious even when the infected didn't have obvious symptoms. As such, they were operating off the understanding that masks would have a negligible benefit for people who A) were not showing symptoms and B) were not around others who were obviously infected. Even in the interview itself, Fauci was quite clear in that his position
was not that masks weren't helpful. Quite the opposite in fact. His position was quite explicitly that, because masks were in limited supply, Healthcare workers had a much greater need of masks than the general populace did, and that the latter group panic buying them - and I quote -
"could create a shortage of masks for the people who really need it".
Contextually, it is quite clear that Fauci et al weren't saying that masks didn't work, but rather that between anticipated lack of exposure and poor application (eg, wearing the masks so that they didn't cover the nose), the expected benefit to the general population wasn't worth the cost of depriving healthcare workers of a necessary resource for their line of work.
It got quote-mined to imply Fauci was instead against masks
in a general sense for the sake of discrediting Fauci (who at that point was persona non grata in Trump's little cult), and later to try and discredit the efforts to contain Covid in general by painting the information sources as inconsistent and therefore (somehow) less trustworthy than the anti-vax hucksters pushing HCL, Ivermectin, etc as some kind of miracle cure that officials were suppressing because reasons.
