The downside to that is that you need internet for the MP anyway and if you wait for the game to get cheap you might not have people around playing MP still. Though I guess that would be the best review of Halo Infinite if the MP can hold people around for any real length of time.
I care nothing for MP. Haven't for about a decade.

So I've played more of Halo Infinite. Some of the quirks I mentioned earlier have become a bit more bearable. For instance, switching between the grapple and the threat sensor, since I've found myself using both. Been going through FOBs and the like, in what feels like a microcosm of Halo Wars.

Anyway, I guess so far all I can say is "good gameplay, bad story." The moment-to-moment gameplay is fun, but the story so far is pratcially non-existent, and what does exist is basically a remake of Halo 1.

Sooo... Halo 5 was billed as the next major installment, and came off as a bloated side story. Now Halo Infinite isn't billed as "Halo 6," but is more in line with the progression of the larger story arc. I'd say I'm confused, but I don't fucking care.
I'd say that's half true. Halo 5 was billed as the next major installment, because it was. Halo Infinite, on the other hand, has been billed as a "spiritual reboot." That isn't my term, it's 343's. And so far...yeah. It wanted to run from H5 so much it just recreated H1. :(

The MP is free though, unless they changed something since launch.

OT: Somebody on a YouTube vid I was watching brought up the idea of humans joining the Banished. Atriox never really had a problem with humans, or any race really (bar the Prophets of course), and I think there might even actually have been human Banished troops in the extended lore.

Made me think that it's weird that there have never really been human enemies in the franchise (except maybe in ODST?), when the only reason Chief and the Spartans exist is because the UNSC wanted to eliminate all the pesky Insurrectionist rebels. I think it would make for a fun little flashback level where Chief is even more unstoppable than usual and is mowing down his fellow man (and woman and child) without remorse, which would tie into his current grizzled veteran that doesn't blindly follow the UNSC's orders personality.

I checked Halopedia, there's apparently some human forces in the Banished. Which makes their anti-human fervor in Infinite all the more puzzling. I guess it's attributable to Atriox no longer being in command, but even so...

Oh, I think it's understandable. Even just from a gameplay standpoint, human enemies wouldn't be that interesting. Though I think it was a wasted opportunity to not have human enemies in Halo 2 - even if they would be chumps, sometimes, it's nice to be evil and cut such chumps down.

Wouldn't say no to a flashback I guess, but it might not be the image 343 is going for.

Fuck multiplayer.
Did it kill your parents or something? 0_0

Anyway, I've dabbled in Infinite's multiplayer. It's okay, but I miss the speed and manuverability of H5. The Spartan slam and charges are gone, as are the back-thrusters, so what's left is a lot slower. We get to use some item drops ala H3, but it's not enough to make up for what was taken away. :(

Also the Spartans are back, somehow, despite all dying at Reach except MC?
The Spartans never all died even during Bungie's era, though they pretty much ignored the books when it came to their games. And they made new Spartans.

Played some more, and God, I'm sick of it already.

Save squad. Take FOB. Take outpost. Go back to FOB. Get vehicle. Go place. Kill stuff. Find Spartan core. Back to FOB. More stuff. Go place. Do stuff...

I get this is how open world games work, it's just a reminder that I don't like open-world games much. :(

Honestly, they would have been better off just making a linear game, and having a good amount of levels be open ended with secondary objectives. A la Crysis 1 and 3, or Gears 5 for people who only play one type of game and nothing else.

There is a joke in my head where I called this game Halo: Far Cry 3-6 Edition. It's apparent how true this is. If they're gonna do an open world, at least have a variety of biosphere. Other than grass, forests, and metal facilities. Where's the desert, winter/snow mountains, or even areas with volcanic spots and lava? Cliche as this may be, it adds some depth to the environment and Halo Ring. That was the entire point of Ring World, which Halo partially got its ideas from.

I will be honest, the game is pretty underwhelming. The open world is stale and it’s side content is repetitive as fuck. Even more so then FF XV’s world. It’s the same thing over and over. They spent six years making this?

6 years and nothing to show for it!
Also the story is a mess. They didn’t explore the out come of Halo 5. They took care of cortana off screen. I was expecting this game to address halo 5’s cliffhanger where cortana and the guardians were now a threat. Instead we get the banished and they off cortana off screen. That’s shitty writing.

343 admitted to ignoring everything that was set up in Halo 5, and that Infinite is a soft-reboot. As far as I am concerned, Halo 3 is the final game and true ending in the timeline.

Fuck multiplayer.

…Bu…but that’s precisely what Halo is responsible for spearheading the popularity of into the world of console gaming. To say “fuck multiplayer” is practically akin to saying, “fuck Halo”.

Having said that, it’s an understandable sentiment but at the same time, there have been more interesting branches of mp that have sprang out from it further as a result, like asynchronous, passive co-op, and even jolly co-op.

It’s all relative to the eye of the beholder though of course.

Not really. Yes, Halo majorly popularized online mp on consoles, but it didn't invent it. There were some others that were ahead of Halo, mainly on Dreamcast, but we all know how long that life cycle went. With that said, there are plenty of FPS games that made multiplayer popular or added more awareness. Goldeneye, Doom, Quake I & III, Unreal Tournament, etc.

Where @Fallen Soldier's anger is coming from is the sin and the wrong direction a lot of the industry took during the 7th generation and now with the Battle Royale modes. That if your game does not have competitive multiplayer, it won't sell or is doomed to fail. The funny thing is, most games that tried to copy Halo, Gears of War, or COD4 all failed to captivate, and a majority of them have been forgotten about, or are a very small footnote in history. Never getting to the next generation. That same sin is being seen in this industry and certain streamers on Twitch who are all about BR and nothing else. To an extent that they (falsely) believe that if Halo: Infinite does not have a BR mode, that won't survive. Infinite does not need a BR mode to be good nor survive, you selfish dick-wads want it that way, because you're afraid you won't get the maximum view count you desire. If Halo added a BR mode, it was just be another clone in the crowd, and you guys and gals would play it for two weeks at best, and drop it and get bored. Going back to Fortnite, War Zone, or PUBG. To the extent that one Twitch streamer, called The Doc, kept talking about how he wants a BR mode, while looking at gameplay demonstration of the single-player, and felt all assets were wasted. For the single player! You're part of what's wrong with the gaming industry you assholes!

You pretty much nailed it on the head! I’m not angry at Halo for having multiplayer, just generally annoyed how it has effected other games, especially in franchises that used to be focused on single player only.
