Aside from the really old games, I could never get in to the franchise.

I did not exactly fall out, but I would not play ever Sonic game released. I would pick and choose, or wait later for a sale. Out of all the Sonic games released in the 2010s, Sonic Generations is still the best. Unleashed I've already stated my feeling; Werehog sucks, end of lecture. Colors relied too much on the Whisps, Lost World I did not both with and don't have a Wii U anymore, Forces was okay, but clearly rushed and full of wasted potential, and while Sonic Mania is good, it relies too much on nostalgia baiting and not enough original levels. You can blame Sega for the reuse of old levels. Also, Sonic Mania ain't the best in the franchise and is way over hyped by nostalgia blind fans, haters pretending to like Sonic, and a bunch of contrarians and suck ass gaming critics.
The series peaked at 3, the decline started with 4.

Keep in mind there was a plan to include Tom Cruise-wannabe specialist as the last content update for BFV before being canned
Didn't they just straight up add him?

Anyway, I think I've let Battlefield go anymore. I can't even be bothered to summon up any ill will whenever they announce the latest laughably bad decision they made. Hopefully we see some Battlefield clone one day, but until then, BF4 seems well populated enough.

Sonic, maybe, but Halo? The only time I've seen anything resembling that was the jump from Halo 4 to Halo 5, where after the latter was released, the former started being treated more generously.
You'll have to ask @laggyteabag, if you have a chart picture posted somewhere in one of the old topics that represented this mindset and cycle.
You summoned me?

Reminds me of the phases Sonic and Halo fans go through whenever a new mainline game comes out.
This is common on the assassin's Creed fanbase as well.

Unity is the new golden boy in the subreddit after the series started becoming more RPG focused. The old bad game becomes a classic once the new game drops.

Pussies with no back bone!
I lurk over there sometimes but rarely chime in. I'm done with the series going forward so I don't feel the need to speak up on the matter, especially since seeing as Infinite is likely going to be GAAS AC and I just don't have the energy to argue with the dudes who'll complain but buy it anyway.

As humorous as the chart is, I dispute that it's an actual representation of consensus in the fanbase. I realize that's a broad statement to make, but I don't think it actually holds water. Of all the games listed, the only one I've seen have any sort of re-evaluation was Halo 4. The rest are generally regarded the same way now as they were at launch.

Speak for yourself. I'm sure not every single Halo fan kept constantly changing their opinions on the next game or past games, but I've seen plenty of them to have done this. In real life or on the Internet.

I swear the site limitations are random as fuck right now. It would not let me post despite not having that many pictures nor words. These are the characters I am super excited for @Dalisclock.
I love how it looks like Marian was just a normal person but after she got kidnapped in Double Dragon she decided that would never happen again and got RIPPED so she could beat the shit out of anyone that tries to mess with her or her family/friends again.

I wasn't old enough to have been immersed in the discourse surrounding Halo 2 or 3, but I know for a fact that both were lambasted at launch, before eventually being warmed up to.

Hell, even in the Escapist's own words from 2007 "Halo 2, in many ways, felt like a bastardization, a mutated genetic experiment performed upon the near perfect console shooter that was Halo 1".

Do you remember the controversy about how little fighting you did on earth in Halo 2? The fact that you had to play as the arbiter? The cliffhanger? Now it is considered by many to be the best in the franchise.

Halo 3 had its map packs. ODST had its price. Don't even get me started on how people felt about Reach's story, and the armour abilities in multiplayer. All of these games were heavily criticised over their lifespans, before eventually being considered classics as time went on.

The game comes out, people gush about it for about a week, then the rose-tinted goggles wear off, and players start to think about the game more objectively, then apparently the Halo rage sets in, and the forums spend the next few years berating the game until the next one comes out, and people start to look back on the last game a little more fondly, as they are busy criticising the new game.

I never thought this would happen to Halo 5, which according to the chart's pattern is in the "in retrospect, it isnt as bad as originally thought", but there are already more than enough threads in the Halo Reddit about how Halo 5's previously derided monetisation and progression systems were way better than Halo Infinite's current system.

All the Halo community knows is that the old ones are great, the last one was okay, but the new one is definitely the worst ever.

You are right about Halo 4, though. My opinion on that game seems to shift from "almost the best" to "almost the worst", and then back again, every time I replay it.

To add some extra detail, in the previous River City Girls and this game implying outright and state this is the same Marianne from Double Dragon Neon. I don't know why they decided to Dante her up and give her white hair though. It looks good, but I remember when first seeing her, that it was odd. I literally thought it was someone else, until the name came up. I'm used to it, but it's a strange seeing her with white hair instead of her usual blonde. Though she was originally a brunette in the first two arcade games, and the Neo Geo fighting game.

Oh I already knew that's who she's supposed to be, I was trying to say I'm imagining the scenario in which she arrived at this point from the original Double Dragon. As for her hair color, it could be to make her more distinctive and could be justified in universe as her bleaching her hair for style purposes.

Sorry if this has already been posted. I'm getting some really bad Duke Nukem Forever vibes here. The story of "Dev Lead changes mind constantly and wants new features like the game he just played" sounds almost word for word for shit I've heard about the DNF disaster. I'm not saying you can't learn from and be influenced by other things out there, but at some point you have to commit to what you want your game to be and make it the best possible version of that. Scope Creep helps nobody(unless your name is Chris Roberts *Rimshot*).

As much as I hate to say it, it reminds me of Shaundi in the Saints Row games. In 2 she's a chill stoner chick but by 3 she's had a marked personality change to become much more aggressive and a lot colder(though it's a sudden change between SR2 and SR3, not a gradual character change). SR4 justified it as her kidnapping in SR2 made her feel useless and like a burden and she didn't want to be in that position again.

Or a better executed example, Sadie Adler from Red Dead Redemption 2, whose loss of her family and being "adopted" by the gang causes her to become an aggressive death seeking gunfighter.

They still planning on making another one? Jesus Christ Kevin Levine, give it a rest! Other than rebooting, there's nowhere else to take the story. Everything was wrapped up, despite how most people didn't like the ending to Infinite. No point going to outer space, because you might as well just call the game System Shock and be done with it. Which reminds me, I got the Bioshock Collection for free from PSN and I still have not started it yet. Maybe after Alan Wake.

At least with Marian's case, she practically had no characterization, other than the Neo Geo fighting game. Neon's had about almost the same. The only difference being that the transition is easier, and that there are multiple versions of the character so it's less haphazardly put together. Nearly every version of Billy, Jimmy, and Marian have all been different. I know for at least in the first RCG, it's never explained why she has white hair. Never in-universe nor out of universe. The second game might shine some light on it.

Hopefully it won’t take as long as Duke Nukem Forever.
