I wasn't old enough to have been immersed in the discourse surrounding Halo 2 or 3, but I know for a fact that both were lambasted at launch, before eventually being warmed up to.

Hell, even in the Escapist's own words from 2007 "Halo 2, in many ways, felt like a bastardization, a mutated genetic experiment performed upon the near perfect console shooter that was Halo 1".

Do you remember the controversy about how little fighting you did on earth in Halo 2? The fact that you had to play as the arbiter? The cliffhanger? Now it is considered by many to be the best in the franchise.

Halo 3 had its map packs. ODST had its price. Don't even get me started on how people felt about Reach's story, and the armour abilities in multiplayer. All of these games were heavily criticised over their lifespans, before eventually being considered classics as time went on.

The game comes out, people gush about it for about a week, then the rose-tinted goggles wear off, and players start to think about the game more objectively, then apparently the Halo rage sets in, and the forums spend the next few years berating the game until the next one comes out, and people start to look back on the last game a little more fondly, as they are busy criticising the new game.

I never thought this would happen to Halo 5, which according to the chart's pattern is in the "in retrospect, it isnt as bad as originally thought", but there are already more than enough threads in the Halo Reddit about how Halo 5's previously derided monetisation and progression systems were way better than Halo Infinite's current system.

All the Halo community knows is that the old ones are great, the last one was okay, but the new one is definitely the worst ever.

You are right about Halo 4, though. My opinion on that game seems to shift from "almost the best" to "almost the worst", and then back again, every time I replay it.
All of this is true to some extent, but I don't think it quite fits the chart.

-I recall the controversy over Halo 2, but that was controversy about certain elements, not the game as a whole.

-I don't recall the controversy over H3 map packs. I actually don't recall much controversy over H3 at all. I detested the campaign initially (I've since become more reciprocal to it), but these days, ask someone what the best Halo game is, and they'll usually say 2 or 3 in my experience.

-As for Reach, again, elements of the game, not the game as a whole.

-Halo 4 is a case where, in my experience, people almost universally detested it. As in, all of it. They hated the campaign, they hated the multiplayer, they hated Spartan Ops. From what I've seen, people have generally become more reciprocal to its campaign, but that's about it. Its multiplayer is still detested. And going by the chart, I've never seen anyone list H4 as their favourite Halo game.

-Halo 5, similarly, still has universal loathing to its campaign. And Halo Infinite is probably the best received 343 game to date.

I'd say the main difference is that the Bungie Halo games certainly had disliked elements, but as a whole, were positively received, whereas Halo 4 and 5 had far more mixed receptions. Halo Infinite, while mixed, has probably had the best reception of the 343 games.

I think there's some truth to this chart, but not a 'writ' truth.

All I remember is that the human weapons in Halo 2 were garbage.

This video was no exception. It nailed every aspect of things I loved about L4D and how they were ruined in B4B. Some aspects I didn't even know were featured in L4D, and how B4B is pale or even lacks the said aspects.

Go to the last bit of the video, around 25:52 mark to see the credits of L4D vs how many of them were brought for B4B. That should tell you how much B4B lacks the soul of what made L4D great

Compared to their Halo 1 counterparts? 100%. Even their aesthetics were awful with them going from a more futuristic design to just generic, black modern day weapons. It completely flipped the balance from the first game where Covenant weapons were worse than the human weapons.

What I posted in the comments-
Is it kinda sad that Steam, which is kinda synonymous with Valve, actually put that last bit in the game’s store page description to mislead potential buyers into thinking they’d be getting another good game?

Playstation has announce their next gen VR

It sounds impressive but this kinda made me laugh from another site -


SUPPLY AND DEMAND — Unfortunately for the company, it remains extremely difficult to purchase a PS5 thanks to ongoing supply chain issues related to global health and economic crises. Hopefully, Sony has an easier time sourcing lenses and controller parts — or we may be waiting years to get a peek at Alloy’s skills in all their three-dimensional glory.

Release date and purchase price are still to be announced... but we’ll bet anything we see the hardware hit shelves in 2022.

The supply chain is so fucking fucked ya'll have no idea. I work in importing goods from Asia and it is the worst mess you have ever seen. I doubt we'll see the PS5 on store shelves until late 2023 tbh. I mean that seriously and it isn't even Sony's fault, there simply isn't enough production and supply of parts available

People going back to work, and restrictions going away. Whether justified or not is not up for debate. The fact of the matter is that until factories and productions can resume with full staff without spacing restrictions, and staff actually going back to work, the supply chain will not uncork itself.

The supply chain is a very large and very complex thing that you can't just stop and start. Things are going to take a lot fo time to get back up and running again. And even once everything is opperating back to normal it will take more time for things to smooth out and the cycle to begin running at the normal pace again.

What further adds to the complication of this, is that many key parts of the supply chain are business that couldn't afford to live through the pandemic and economic shutdown. Truck drivers for instance couldn't afford to keep their trucks without products to transport so they lost the truck which means thats a truck drive gone and it isn't like they can just come back. Which is going to add to the supply issues because you have less available people to drive the trucks and even less trucks on the road.

There are so many broken links in the chain that will add to the delay in getting this fixed. From what i've seen we are at least three years away from shit going back to normal in that regard. There will be things that trickle in here and there in terms of supply though, like you'll get batches of playstations or whatever here and there, but thing's wont be steadily available for until at least 2025 or 2026. And even then that assumes Covid's panic falls off soon.
