The hidden irony is this is that the majority of what happened on Epstein's island would have been legal in France at the time, and the illegal stuff would have been slap on the wrist offences.

Age of sexual majority in a lot of countries is 16. It is for Australia, except in Tasmania and South Australia where its 17. There are exceptions however regarding such relations where there is a clear power imbalance and (usually) a duty of care between the parties; teachers, religious officials etc.
Always worth mentioning that for most places, there are other offenses for sex with minors, and they're just lesser crimes than statutory rape. That being said, France only put their age of consent into place last year. Prior to that, prosecutors in France had to prove there was force or coercion to charge with rape regardless of age. The change in the law was inspired by some cases where men were acquitted of rape charges after having sex with 11-year-olds, which is coincidentally the youngest age reported to have been on Pedophile Island.
