Whatever, just wash your hands.
Started replaying Ion Fury at the highest difficulty. Playing Turbo Overkill really put me in the mood for boomer style shooters. I should really be playing some of the Doom mods I have on queue, but here we are.

Decided to finish Day 2 on Razor's Edge. I'm getting consistent steel on bone maneuvers. I'll do Ayane's first chapter later.

I am not a fan of the climbing sections, nor some of the QTES. This game relies way more on spectacle than all the previous Ninja Gaiden games. Especially when it comes to boss battles. The QTE moments feel more home to something like God of War, Bayonetta, or even Metal Gear Rising, than anything NG.

Playing through a somewhat heavily modded Morrowind, utilising OpenMW for the first time. The increased view distance really add s much nicer atmosphere (couple with shitloads of texture mods) to the game, because now you can actually stand on a high elevation and see distant ruins and such, spurning on exploration. Changing the leveling mechanics lets me play without wanting to blow my brains out. I'm also trying out the Atronach birthsign for the first time in a TEs game and I really like it. Makes you play the game and approach problems in a different way.

Despite finishing the main quest twice I've never completed the Morag Tong, Redoran, Telvanni and both expansion's questlines, so I'll make sure to tackle those at some point.

After I discovered that Super Robot Wars 30 on Steam was on sale, I decided to pick it up. I'm not especially well-versed in mecha fiction, but I like the genre generally speaking and I've heard that 30 is one of the better ones, made even better by its relative availability. Kinda like Ace Combat 7 in that series.

So far I've done a couple of missions from the Earth starting point and come across a few shows that I'd (obviously) never heard of, but with some interesting premises. Not that I'm ever going to watch them, but I don't think I'll be unhappy to see their arcs pop up again later. As for the actual gameplay, it hasn't been on the level of some other games I've played before like Fire Emblem, but again I'm only just getting started. Tougher enemy formations, terrain, objectives, I'm still expecting to see those later, and the initial 'weak' impression hasn't put me off. If it comes to that, I can always raise the difficulty a bit.

Infamous: Second Son is the last PS4 game I still have to beat finish. It has the weirdest HDR I've seen in a game. Just trying to discern things is so difficult all too often, especially at night or when a light source is glowing near you. Looks worse without HDR. Of course they throw all the typical artificial lens crap on top too, which doesn't help the issue. Seems to be covered in dry moisture even when it's not raining.

Same spots even. It's so dumb.

I hate having dirty eye glasses and would wipe that off as soon as I got the chance. But the virtual film director whose camera you're forced to view this game through is so proud of it that he doesn't clean it even over the course of several days. The same spots!

Emulating the PS3 version on PC. Why do that when there's an actual PC version, you ask? Well, the game got delisted so you can't get it fully legit anymore, so the only option for PC is buying from grey market key resellers like G2A or Kinguin, and because the game is delisted, they're not selling it cheap. Like €50-60+. Meanwhile, my local Game Mania had a secondhand PS3 copy for a tenner. And besides, emulating works really well. No glitches or crashes. Faster loading. Rock solid 60 and way higher res. Might as well be running native.

Anyway, should probably say something about the game itself. Not an avid racer, so I'm not really sure how the actual driving measures up to other racing games. Feels like it is really easy to get into a drift, but on the other hand it's also easy to regain control. I don't know, I'd maybe describe it as arcadey. The car switching mechanic is of course a lot of fun and stopping a perp dead in their tracks by frontally kamikaze'ing a semi truck right up in their grill will never get old. Love the 70's sort of Startsky & Hutch lighthearted vibe it's got going tho, and thewriting is often pretty good and actually kind of funny too, if perhaps a little hokey.

I hate the Cyber T-Rex boss in Razor's Edge. Fucking hate it! Fucking hate it! I had to turn down the difficulty to Hero mode so I can get passed it. Had to do a similar thing with the second boss fight with (VR) Regent Mask. Thankfully, you go from Normal to Hero difficulty, and vice versa, any time. This game does have some the worst boss fights in the entire reboot trilogy. A player can also see how low the enemy variety is, and they had to bring enemies from II/Sigma 2 to fill up the roster in the updated re-release. In the middle of Day 4, so I already know I am at the halfway point.

Razor's Edge - Day 4 and Day 5 are completed. The end boss fight at Day 5 is God of War III-lite where you're fighting on top of various parts of the boss's body, but not as interesting. Still a cool chapter, and a nice pace breaker fighting the Black Spider Ninjas again. I'm at Day 6 now, and nearly at the finishing mark. This is the shortest Ninja Gaiden game out of the three, but I don't consider this a bad quality. I know after this chapter, it's the last Ayane chapter, Day 7 and then Day 8. I did a few Ninja Trials for some extra fun. Can't wait to unlock Chapter Challenge so I can experiment more with the unlockable characters. Why they chose change how it unlocks from last game is beyond me. The mode unlocked the moments you beat a chapter. Here, you have to beat the game.

Continuing to play Rune Factory 5. Mhm, mhm, as I suspected, there's more going on to each character than seems on the surface.

Many of you have seen my posts in the screenshot thread of Ludmila, well she's a succubus of the old school variety, she gains energy by going into people's dreams. She initially claimed that just being around positive vibes was enough to satiate that side of her, but finds out that that's not the case and it causes problems when she unconsciously starts going into the dreams of townspeople because she's starving herself, leading to them being drained come morning. It gets much more serious when old lady Yuki gets drained as it leaves her more sick than others due to her age. She has a history of being chased out of towns eventually due to her nature as a succubus, and in fact, the first town she was chased from was back when she was a kid because she and a childhood friend of hers wanted to keep playing even after the day was over and so for several days she visited him in his dreams so they could keep playing and it almost killed him (This was how she learned about her nature as a succubus). And her nature of being a thrill seeker and trying to find enjoyment in punishment? Also plays into her nature, she developed that trait in herself in order to try and lessen how much it would hurt when people turned on her and got angry. If you get joy from being punished then it won't hurt when they get angry with you. If you get a thrill from being forced to be alone then it'll make the loneliness more bearable.

I was very glad to see Rune Factory continue this trend as they've done this in previous entries where they'll give a character a trait and play it up for laughs most of the time but also hint and reveal more serious aspects to these traits. Another example is Clorica in Rune Factory 4. Clorica is a butler in training and she also has a problem of falling asleep all the time (I'm hesitant to call it narcolepsy as she's still able to do things while sleeping and manages to be a better butler than Vishnal in spite of her problem), it's played for jokes and such most of the time but if you get into a relationship with her you'll find it's not all jokes as part of what makes her nervous about being in a relationship, especially a marriage, is that she's scared of having a kid and falling asleep when they need her and something bad happening to them. One small comment she has that really hit me hard was her talking about how if Lest were always with her then she wouldn't have to worry about falling asleep since he'd be there to take care of her when it happens.

This is not to say that the Rune Factory series goes into huge depth on these problems the characters have, but they do go into them enough that I can tell that the writers care about their characters, at least enough to not just have them be two-dimensional, and I appreciate it.

I'm on the last stage, Day 8, and will finish the rest later this evening. I already know the final boss will be a pain when I get ot it. So far my favorite boss is Evil Ryu Clone in NG3: RE. While he is challenging, he is the most fun to fight in the entire game. He's not overly tedious, nor just a giant boss spectacle. Unlike most human/humanoid sized bosses, I don't have to do hit and run tactics with near impossible reads. You fight him in two phases, and both are awesome. You can steal on bone him, and once you find a way to exploit hid pattern, it gets even more fun.

Still replaying Mass Effect 1.

I spent a lot of time yesterday doing a lot of the busywork required for a 100% playthrough, which meant that I spent a lot of time jumping between the game's uncharted worlds.

I hate the uncharted worlds.

The only things to differentiate one world from another, is the colour of the ground/sky, and how frustrating the terrain is to navigate.

All you do is drive around in a tank that handles terribly, jumping from one map marker to the next. If you are lucky enough to have a side mission to complete whilst you are there, that likely means that you will have an interior combat section in one of three recycled rooms.

Its not exactly gripping content, but, a lot of this stuff pays off in ME2, and ME3, so here I am.

Finished Infamous: Second Son. Hm... Good. One of the better PS4 games I've played. Plays better than Horizon, not as pretentious as what Naughty Dog and Santa Monica did that generation (minus Lost Legacy), doesn't waste as much of your time as Spider-Man with its open world. Feels a little less made by committee. Story and characters are weak, but most of these kinds of games have that in common.

inFAMOUS Second Son™_20220505023332.jpg

Had all those upgrades left after I finished. That's how sick I am of all the upgrade trees in games, of going through those menus, reading those descriptions and trying to decide. Boring.

Now the only system I owned that I've finished all my games on. Well, except Red Dead 2, but that game was irritating. I sold it after a couple of hours.

Stanley Parable: The Shiny One.
Currently too early in time to make judgement. Feels a bit Portal-y with narrative humour. This is the first time for me, so not sure what to expect. Think I may have gotten lost on first go and ended up in some potentially spoilery type museum room with director comments though. Not sure about anything so far. Seems cute.

The only advice I would ever give anybody regarding The Stanley Parable is that on your first playthrough, follow the narrator's instructions to the letter. It's better to start exploring and experimenting once you know what the 'baseline' is meant to be.

Your first time through, you should just do what the narrator tells you to. But the real fun of Stanley Parable is replays, and instead of obeying, go against the grain in a many ways as you can think of. There are tons of routes and endings you can reach. Then sit back as things get meta. So very, yet deliciously meta.
