So, Bruce Banner is forced to be this lumbering brute, while his cousin gets to keep her physique?

...okay.
Almost like she's a comicbook woman so she needs to look hot.

Anyway, that face looks very Micheal Jackson-y. It's not great. You'd think this being a series they'd just opt to go the forced perspective route, get a super athletic looking model and put the actress' head on it in post. Though it might be Marvel thinking they need to match the production values/CGI of the movies in order to sell it to the general audience.

That would require much more craft and forethought than "we'll fix it in post". Marvel works like an assembly chain where the thing is almost ready before they've even hired a director or finished casting or the script's done. It's easier to pre-bake a trailer with half-assed effects and treat the world like a focus group than to commit to any one idea. It's cheaper to replace a CGI Hulk with another CGI Hulk than to reshoot something made with forced perspective.

Same with getting an actual athlete or a bodybuilder - people will complain she's too buff or not buff enough, and there would be nothing they can do but recast. But if you Sonic your lead you can pretty much tinker with it until you've covered all your bases.

Two inmates (Miles Teller & Jurnee Smollett) form a connection while grappling with their pasts in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary (Chris Hemsworth) who experiments on his subjects with mind-altering drugs. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy). Based on The New Yorker short story, “Escape From Spiderhead,” by George Saunders.

You know the problem I have with Disney? They seem to greenlight anything as long as it's at or below PG-13/TV-14.

We get awesome stuff like Mandalorian, Loki, and What If, okay stuff like she-hulk, hawkeye, and Eternals.

And then we get a complete trash like this

Like, genderbending is already weird enough, but did they really need force sneakers theme w/ product placements?

This is why I've been getting less interested in Marvel/Disney's IPs. Once again, not giving up the MCU altogether, but if this is how they've been doing it most of the time, I won't bother. Say what you will about WB/DC, but at leas they take their time now, and rarely ever rush things out anymore. Ironic, because blind MCU fans would criticize them for rushing out their cinematic universe, but many of them won't say a peep or downplay it, when Marvel is doing the same thing.

I still have no interest in seeing Dr. Strange 2. I rather just wait for Aquaman 2, Black Adam, and Spider-Verse 2.

They've been doing this tactic since the mid to late 90s. Disney Channel was all there "safe" stuff, or rip off of better things.

Uhhh...

I get the point of a CG Hulk, but why CG She-Hulk if she's not gonna be any bigger than the average FBB? Just hire a FBB, you're not exactly trying to create Gollum here. Especially if it's gonna look less convincing than a dinosaur in 1993.
Considering there needs to be some visual congruency between regular Walters and her She-Hulk self, I don't think it'd work by just adding another actress like they did in the simpler times of the '70s with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. That said, this CGI looks terrible; they could do better, but clearly aren't invested enough to give it the proper treatment it deserv.... I was about to say "deserves," but I don't think this effort deserves much.

I don't get it. The Hulk looks ridiculous already. Gamora wouldn't look like a she-hulk even if they buffed her out.

At least they went through the effort to make him look like Mark Ruffalo in CGI; I doubt there's a female body builder out there with a strong enough resemblance to Tatiana Maslany that they could get away with two actresses that'd satisfy viewers who've only become more nitpicky over the years. So bad CGI, or visual incongruency; they chose the former. That, and CGI, even when done poorly, gives the more wiggle room with visual effects than practical effects that would command a stunt actress and myriad riggings.

Point is, this will be yet another tiresome Marvel outing at best, or godawful at worst, and the consistent viewership they've garnered over the years has show they're willing to settle for the former.

Yeah obviously digital makeup is the way to go here. No contest. TV quality CGI is always a bit dodgy with something like this, because she can't look like a plastic doll and must overcome the uncanny valley.

"Grrrl pwrrrr!!" is a tired punchline at this point. However, they have two women sharing directing credit so we'll see how much of that is played straight. And yeah, being a Marvel outing is a burden that they must prove they can bear.

Regarding she-hulk

1. man that CGI was rough. I hope they get it cleaned up by august.

2. The sex thing at the end was pretty cringe. I get the joke it just wasn't setup well at all. It didnt help that the CGI made it look like he was bring carried off by cartoon shrek.

3. meh it looks fun. I have the weirdest feeling Tim Roth is going to end up carrying this series.

I think at this point, they're willing to just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Marvel media has generated such hype and revenue for so many years, Marvel Studios is basically a multi-billionaire playing the penny slots, i.e.: fuck it.

And then we have their random step-child Gargoyles that got into the family somehow. The Nightmare Before Christmas also scared me as a kid. But yeah, any "bite" they had in them seemed to have been squeezed out by the mud 2000's.

The same can be said for a lot of channels that featured animated kids shows. Especially the big three. By the mid to late 2000s, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network especially, had some obsession of trying to be more like the Disney channel. This is a dork age that lasted for nearly a decade. Remember CN Real? What a load of shit. What were they thinking? I already know about the power shift and one of the other president of the company, at the time, stepping down do that whole Boston scare incident. They still went way overboard and the new person really sucked.

See, I'm confused. Admitatdly I haven't read the comics but I thought the thing with She-Hulk was that she got the power through a transfusion and that led to several differences from Hulk. She isn't AS strong, but she also has control over herself and is permanently hulked out. Am I wrong? I could have sworn that was the case and if it was then why not just hire a female body-builder to play the role? One of the biggest stars of the 80s and 90s, Schwarzenegger, started as a body builder, its not like there's no precedent.

I never read the comics, and only know what I know from the '90s cartoon series.

I have no idea; never read the comics, but regardless, the trailer shows a normal Jennifer Walters prior to the piss-poor CGI She-Hulk, and my point is a finding a different woman who 1.) looks similar to Tatiana Maslany, 2.) is a substantially muscular bodybuilder befitting Hulk-esque bulk, and 3.) can actually act and carry the titular character would have been way more difficult than falling back on the proven CGI they've been using for over a decade.

I'm not saying there's no precedent for bodybuilders in acting, just that it'd be harder to get away with what they did in the '70s "The Hulk" show with Bill Bixby playing Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno playing The Hulk (seen below) as standards and expectations are a bit higher today given what Hollywood is capable of when they actually care to try.

Well, my point was kinda, who cares about Tatiana Maslany, whoever the heck that is, just get a female body builder to star in the role full stop.
