Is not a situation like this the very reason that police tactical units exist? Okay so PC Plod can’t handle a crazed gunman on his own, or even with a few mates because they’re not equipped for it materially or by trade. Fair enough, so that’s when you call in the special units with (supposedly) the special training and equipment so they can go in and get him. That is one of the duties they exist to do.
No. They only exist to make police 'look cool'

Don't forget the kickbacks for buying military equipment and paying for killology seminars.

Big business in looking and sounding tough

And where did he get the gun? I was 12 once, I didn't have a gun!
I'll try and follow up this later, when I can. He either got it from his parents or guardians, or stole it from somebody. The only other option is that he bought illegally off the streets.

Look at the end. Actors are so weird. It's like his characters infected his personality.

I don't know what they're going for. I get Uvalde is his hometown, and he's emotional and feels a need to speak out.
But the kind of people who support gun rights and AR15s are not the kind of people who want a Hollywood elite to tell them what to do or how to think.

Then again, those self-same people will never change their minds on this issue no matter what, because this is the world they want.

They're not the kind of people who want ANYONE telling them what to do. To them, "freedom" means they're free to do whatever they want, the "guh'ment" needs to stay out of their business, and delude themselves into believing that that mentality doesn't invite the kind of violence and crime they'll tell you to your face they're against and/or protecting themselves from. Meanwhile, they drive on government-subsidized roads, send their kids to public schools, and call the police to protect them when their AR-15s is just out of reach.

Also all these people who think the Government are tracking them using microchips in vaccines?
Hello, Social Security number? Drivers license? The government literally sends an agent to your house every day, to deliver the mail.
And don't get me started on the state-fair going lard asses eating fried butter and carrying ARs thinking they can take on the SEALs. Its so absurd 2nd amendment nuts honestly think they have a chance of taking on the Federal or even state Governments.

I was going to say you can be tracked by your phone and social media, but sure those work too.

I keep repeating this, but the most powerful military in the world couldn't defeat a bunch of under-supplied terrorists living in caves over the course of 20 years, and the arguably second most powerful military in the world is currently getting their tanks stolen by a bunch of farmers with tractors.

Movies have really made us think more highly of the military than we should. Sort of the same thing with police and how they're huge heroes risking their lives in every movie, but in real life will just let children get shot for an hour while doing nothing.

Well I should point out the US wasn't trying to "win" in Afghanistan or Iraq. Those were military industrial complex driven wars. It was about money. The longer the war went on, the more money arms manufacturers made. The actual combat, the actual "war" part was just the bread and circus for the media.

And the Russian military isn't the second strongest in the world. They claimed it was. On paper it was. And it turns out it was a Potemkin army. They didn't have the weapons they claimed. They didn't have the training. The don't have the top of the line tanks and armored cars. It was all fake. That's why they're using mosin rifles and basic civilian cars with machine guns bolted on top.
Also the Ukraine forces are being massively backed up by on the ground US forces. The "volunteers" who managed to form entire companies with organizations, staff and supplies.

And yes, the US military, actually trying to put down a rebellion, would 100% beat a bunch of rural farmers with long guns. With actual tanks. And planes and drones and ships and missiles and helicopters and smart bombs. Because here's the thing about rural Americans - they over estimate how badass they are, and how much they can take. US towns are small. A few bombs takes out the entire town center, another the gas station, a fourth the Walmart, and a fifth the local Church. That's it. That's the town gone, and the nearest other is 20miles away, and despite how badass they claim to be, they're not going live in the woods in blown out buildings surviving off of twigs and bugs. They want the modern comforts, like showers, and gas, and refrigerated food.

And that's assuming the government doesn't just shut down the water and power grids and just wait. Rural redneck rebels will get the message really quick.

One could argue that was a failure based on the attempted hearts and minds approach. If the instruction was to just invade and kill everyone, they could have probably achieved that in 18 months. But that also discounts the fact that, evil bastards that they are, ISIS and the Taliban were made of much sterner stuff than the average sovereign citizen member.

No military power is going to bomb their own infrastructure if it can at all be avoided. That shit's expensive and it's expensive to build back.

Are a bunch of rednecks with AR-15s going to beat the entire US army? Of course not. That doesn't mean that the US army is ever going to attack its own citizens full force and destroy entire cities just because they can.

But yes, American rednecks don't actually have as much fight in them as they pretend they do. They have too much to lose and they're too pampered to put up any kind of long term resistance. They are never going to live in caves for 20 years to rebel.

I'm just pointing out that "you can't shoot down a drone with an assault rifle" is an incredibly silly argument when the Taliban never had to do that in order to win.

The Taliban never had to bother to shoot down a drone because they knew if they waited long enough, the Americans would leave.
Try telling that to Alabama or West Virginia. What state do you think can outlast the US government? Which county do you think has more resources than all of the US? Which Mayor tells the President to blink?

And to your whole thing about no nation bombs valuable infrastructure because its expensive to repair...well I have unfortunate news on how valuable most American states are. We got California, Texas, Illinois, and New York...that's about it. Almost all States cost more than they bring in, especially the South.

This whole idea that rednecks in America will pull a Taliban, ie fighting a 20 year war the US isn't even trying to win, and somehow win against a not fully committed US army on actual US shores is ridiculous. You know what's a better war to look at? The Civil War, where a bunch of red necks tried to rebel and the US army burned them to the ground. That's what would happen if these rebel assholes try to rise again, except it'd be over in about 4 hours instead of years.

I'd also note that Iraq or Afghanistan couldn't outlast the US if the US wanted to last. There wasn't any good reason to stay, beyond the sunk cost fallacy and national pride, so they left, which is not the case in the US.

I'd also note that the US doesn't seem to care too much when infrastructure falls apart for other reasons. Texas has a power grid that won't work in Texan weather, various places have poisonous drinking water, and when there's a hurricane FEMA is slow to respond, then puts people in temporary housing that leaks toxic fumes (and alter gets resold with a warning sticker that says people shouldn't live in there).

The Civil War is a bit different, it was another attempted war of independence, people were trying to leave the Union rather than control it, and they came close to winning that.

The new civil war is usually said to be about getting control of the US government. OTOH, if, say, Puerto Rico wants to leave, they might be able to do that.
