As much as I enjoy some of this, really have to get the thread back on track. And he talks about the virus can go towards the current events red. I am responsible on that. So somebody put a media hot take or something.

The Boys I absolutely have zero interest in. I rather just wait for another season of Invincible right now. Or view the Watchman TV series. I should get on that. I got HBO Max.

More of a random thought than a hot take, but I don't think Predators should have to sneakily go round killing people. If one rocked up at a Roman colisseum or maybe even one of the bloodier medieval tournaments they'd probably be allowed to take part.

Two things: Top Gun simps for US Navy and Foreign Policy. In other news, water is wet. Also, McDonnell-Douglas (part of Boeing and Northrup Grumman respectively now) made the FA/18, not Lockheed Martin.

EDIT: Oh, wait a second. I inadvertently skipped a line and it looked like the author was saying the FA/18 was made by Lockheed but another read makes it clear they’re referring to the F-35. Always pays to re-read folks, or else you look silly like me right now.

Titanic would have been a much better film without the romantic tale it spends half its runtime developing that's unfortunately what the film is most famous for. The much more interesting and true story is the hubris of man and a ship described as unsinkable sinking in such a grand and tragic fashion EDIT: on it's maiden voyage. I've watched the movie about a half dozen times, watching it now, and just realized how it doesn't really get good [by my standards] until they hit the iceberg, and the time elapsed before all the top hats and monocles realize shit was going down in every sense of the phrase.

Granted, I'm biased as being on a sinking ship in the middle of nowhere is one of my greatest nightmares, and they spun it as a love story, so I don't appreciate that shit.

The love story is the audience’s anchor and framing device. Jack and Rose (and their adjacent characters) are made up because then there can be no unreasonable limits on what you have them do and say. There’s also the fact that, Maiden Voyage or no, there probably wasn’t anything that interesting going on what should have been a pretty mundane but comfortable oceanic crossing. And most of the real and interesting characters like Molly Brown, do not have their tales intrinsically linked to the ship. Though Molly Brown did rally for the survivors charity once she arrived in America.

You might want to check out ‘A Night to Remember’ if you want a less melodramatic film on the subject.

I understand why they did it; it's just my personal opinion that it's uninteresting, overly sappy and takes up half the time of a very long film. For a framing device, they could have fictionalized a tale around Thomas Andrews, aboard his proudly-designed vessel for her maiden voyage, watching on as the hubris of man makes for some bad decision making and it costs him and over a thousand others their lives. They could have knocked that out in an hour and a half to two hours, not the three demanded by Jack and Rose.

The sinking of the Titanic is a major historical event; using it as the backdrop to some immediate romance with a violently and absurdly evil jaded fiancé feels like the film should have been called "Jack and Rose." I'm saying the romance overshadows the event it's meant to depict. Again, my opinion.

And I will seek out "A Night To Remember;" thanks for the recommendation.

There's just way too much sex and nudity in TV these days. And romance, you can't watch 10 minutes without some rushed romance shoehorned in somewhere. It's just gross.

That's been there since forever. Don't know why you're barking about it now.

You can thank the 90s/2000s, and stations such as HBO and Cinemax for that. Plus, streaming is thing now, and part of the Intenet. Hence more sex and nudity. It's not exactly a bad thing when applied right. Besides, what the hell you've been watching? Then again, I don't constantly marathon 10 dozen different digital shows.

Just because somethings been around a long time doesn't mean I need to like it. I'm complaining about it now because I'm watching TV with my uncle while we eat dinner, I don't normally watch much TV and I'm realizing that I kind of hate most of it. Right now we're watching the live action Cowboy Bebop remake and I don't remember there being nearly so much sex and nudity in the original. But sex sells, so they need to cram it in wherever they can. Thankfully I only have a week left here, then I can go back to watching nothing but Let's Plays and the very occasional anime.

I never said you did. That still does not explain why are you acting so surprised/upset now.

And that was your first mistake! Live action CB is a big piece of shit that wasted everyone's time! EVERYONE!

But sex sells, so they need to cram it in wherever they can.
There's a reason content label warning exists. Start reading them. If they have sex and nudity, then you should already know what you're in for.

There's only so much you can do when you are a guest in someone else's house. I already opted out of the Umbrella Academy after the first episode left me completely bored and I don't really want to turn my nose up at every show he picks, so I'm going to complain to you guys instead.

And there's no content warning for romance, and there really ought to be.

Fair enough.

Does he know live-action CB got cancelled?

And there's no content warning for romance, and there really ought to be.
Seriously? That weird, even by Netflix standards. They got content warnings for all of the genres. Even raunchy "romance comedies" last I checked,

Lemme ask something pretty relevant though:

If I’m sick and sneeze directly in your close proximity, would you feel it more on your face if:

A. I had no mouth covering at all
or
B. I had a medically approved mask on

Multiply this by several orders of magnitude to account for public spaces like say, a busy grocery store. If masks don’t do anything then I suppose we could also say washing hands or hell, throwing firecrackers at people don’t do anything either.

The rather pathetic failure of such a vast portion of the population to acknowledge and understand it’s merely about setting aside personal pride and doing each individualistic part to minimize risk and exposure doesn’t bode very well going forward in the face of possibly worse pandemics.
I keep asking this for like 2 years now to people on here... When is the last time someone actually sneezed or coughed on you? Everyone already sneezes or coughs off to the side or covers it. Sure you might have young kids doing it sometimes that don't know any better. Also, who actually coughs or sneezes inside a mask. Everyone takes off the mask if they have to sneeze or cough. So again, this reason for masking because of coughing or sneezing was always a dumb reason. Just people that are sick breathing air into the room spreads the virus, it's airborne.

Literally, every single well done study on masks during covid has shown no to very little effect. There's studies doing a regression analysis where say masking was mandated in 10 year olds and older and then they look at the incidence in covid between 9 year olds and 10 year olds and find there was no difference. I never get any quality data back for those arguing masks work because there isn't any such data. There never was any such data before covid either on masks working against airborne disease.

Hot take 1.

Kevin bacon had an interesting hot take on hot ones this week. They were talking about Kevin Bacons new TV Show

Sean asked what he thought was the source in this cultural shift to streaming and small screen.

Kevin said nobody really pays attention to the fact that once a script is delivered the writer gets pushed aside and the producers, actors and directors make it whatever they want often fucking up the writers intentions so he said hes seen a ton of film writers get fed up and and go to streaming/prestige tv where they have more control.

I thought that was a pretty interesting take and makes a lot if sense when you think about shit the blockbuster scene has become and go crazy good TV is becoming. Its on youtube go watch the interview ots really good.

Hot take 2.

I wont be seeing Jurassic World Dominion in theaters. Its writen by Emily Carmichael. She wrote The atrocious Pacific Rim: Uprising. Fuck her and fuck Hollywood. Stop hiring seat fillers you fucks. Goddamn Im so sick of them doing productions without giving fuck about quality.

"FUCK 2023 IS OPEN WE GOTTA DO A TITANIC SEQUEL, WHOS AVAILABLE TO WRITE A SCRIPT BY 5PM?"

Thats no way to start a production!

That’s a contradiction, since open mouths will spread contagions far more than when contained to a mask. They don’t have to sneeze or cough directly on someone if it’s in the air anyways. I stopped reading when you said people take their masks off when they sneeze or cough. Just wtf.
