This is of course not a surprise, because the Republican drive to make abortion illegal under all circumstances is unpopular with their own voters, never mind the whole electorate.Surprised no one mentioned it but apparently even state that heavily favored Trump do not what abortion to be illegal.

Kansas voters resoundingly protect their access to abortion
Kansas voters have sent a resounding message about their desire to protect abortion rights by rejecting a measure that would have allowed the Republican-controlled Legislature to tighten abortion restrictions or ban the procedure outright.apnews.com
Worth pointing out that the anti obartion grouo did everything to help their case and still lost. The question was worded in the most confusing way possible, they scheduled the vote to coincide with primary for heavy republican turn out and even sent message to democratic area trying to con them into thinking voting yes would increase protection.
It seem dem could be able to make some gain on abortion, maybe pushing for some limited minimum guarantee for abortion (maybe only up to 2nd trimester) nationwide could help them. But then again, it seems there are plenty of people who would rather abortion stay legal but will still vote republican election after election.
Because moving to another state is just easy-peezy, lemon squeezy. That's the idea here, if you don't like the state you're in you move out.
You think being able to move is spoiled!?!? Most young people rent, it's easy to move if you rent. And if you own, it's really fucking easy to sell. When I was looking for the place I got a couple months back, you had to see a place once it popped up on the market or else it was gone. The thing keeping people from moving is not wanting to move away from friends and family (also their job perhaps but you can get jobs like anywhere today), not that they are rich and spoiled. Also, a lot of people live in big cities and moving out of them is only going to help their financial situation most of the time (like living in Chicago is stupid as shit). Your view of reality is so skewed it's not even funny.Because moving to another state is just easy-peezy, lemon squeezy.

Serously, if you have the kind of resources available to you where moving to another state is just that easy, you are spoiled AF.
How much did it cost for you to move, and did you move away from your job and support structures? You think being able to move is spoiled!?!? Most young people rent, it's easy to move if you rent. Coming from you, this is a compliment. It means I'm actually looking at facts.Your view of reality is so skewed it's not even funny.
If only every state allowed referendumsThe thing in Kansas seems to be the point to this. Now you don't have the supreme court deciding on this but rather a state so it's more legitimate than merely a court saying it's allowed.
I honestly don't get the point of people who claim to believe that most people in the country are pro abortion legalization worrying about allowing people to vote on abortion in their states. You don't need to be authoritarian and have the court decide this. If you truly believe people are for it they will do it themselves. And sure you will prolly have a couple of outlier states where it's illegal too, for the super religious people who are against it to go live. That's the idea here, if you don't like the state you're in you move out.
What exactly do you mean by cost? You don't have to buy to move obviously. And if you're renting, then you just have to pay like movers to move your stuff. What does it matter if you're paying $1,000/month at location B vs location A? I put 20% down but you can put less down. Also, the reason young people don't have money to do that is because they are horrible at managing money; I have younger friends that have no housing costs currently, complain constantly about having no money, and they mostly make more than I do. Owning is also cheaper than renting, my monthly payment is cheaper than if I was renting something similar plus I own the place and can sell it obviously vs getting nothing out of something I rented. I lived in Illinois right on the border to Indiana and moved about 20 minutes into Indiana, so I didn't move "away". I also said that moving away from family and friends is the biggest reason people don't move, it has nothing to do with being spoiled or not spoiled. How much did it cost for you to move, and did you move away from your job and support structures?

You are a deeply unserious person who has zero awareness of what life is like for anybody who is not youWhat exactly do you mean by cost? You don't have to buy to move obviously. And if you're renting, then you just have to pay like movers to move your stuff.
They don't worry about the people voting, they worry about the politicians not serving the will of the people. Which, you know, is a thing that tends to happen quite a lot. *looks at SCOTUS*I honestly don't get the point of people who claim to believe that most people in the country are pro abortion legalization worrying about allowing people to vote on abortion in their states.
This might have worked if public policy was always receptive to public opinion, but it ain't. See for example how Senators representing 16% of the country's population controls 50% of the Senate, and can therefore block anything wanted by the rest.I honestly don't get the point of people who claim to believe that most people in the country are pro abortion legalization worrying about allowing people to vote on abortion in their states. So what is the "cost" of moving in your world? The cost for moving for me was higher than most because I had to buy a lot of shit that most will move to the new place. You are a deeply unserious person who has zero awareness of what life is like for anybody who is not you
Oh, it's basically the same, just you seem to think that it only applies to you specificallySo what is the "cost" of moving in your world? The cost for moving for me was higher than most because I had to buy a lot of shit that most will move to the new place.
That was never anything I said. I only posted to say having the ability to move or not has nothing to do with being spoiled or not.Oh, it's basically the same, just you seem to think that it only applies to you specifically
Anyway, point on hand is that "you can just move (away from you friends, family, and job, provided you have the money to do so" is a deeply bad answer to the "my whole state just became a theocratic hellhole" problem, doubly so when more than have the state is in that situation. Like, almost 6.7 million people live in Indiana. Saying "it's okay, 3 million people can just pick up and move and anybody who doesn't has to just accept it" is dumb
The "flood" of migration amounts to a few thousand a year. Again, Indiana's population is 6.7 million. That was never anything I said. I only posted to say having the ability to move or not has nothing to do with being spoiled or not.
And people are flooding into Indiana from Illinois by the way. I could've moved within Illinois far easier and for far less money (it would be more money in the long run because Illinois rips you off).
States with big economies like Florida, Texas and California are all among the top five states Illinois residents are moving to in the largest numbers, U.S. Census data from 2019, the most recent available, show. The "flood" of migration amounts to a few thousand a year. Again, Indiana's population is 6.7 million.
That is not a viable solution to a wide scale state level problem.
