Hmm, I don't recall mieks gender ever being brought up in the movie, but then again I don't remember meek having a gender in the comics either. It was always a bug that talked in the third person.

I think if nothing else the movie felt like a massive waste of opportunity. I appreciate TWs humor and I definitely think it can work in the context of the MCU, but TLT just felt vapid. Devoid of any real emotion or depth because every time somebody almost felt feelings it was interrupted by jokes. It was the most extreme example of Marvel undercutting their own meaningful moments. To that point this felt was a great opportunity to introduce great stories and plotlines from the comics like WWH, Godlsayer or even Meiks storyline from the books. Instead it was screaming goats, and Thor being Michael from The Office. It definitely felt like "dumb fun" though I didn't have. I feel like you put Christian bale in a Marvel movie, you owe us more than what was given. Obviously not "literally" owe, I just mean his talent was wasted.
It's a throwaway line in the movie, but Valkyrie specifically refers to Miek as a female.

I also never really felt that the meaningful moments were undercut by the jokes. I will say the goats were not needed, and I didn't find them funny, but the parts that were meant to be serious, like the final scene with Gorr, I thought worked really well. As for Christian Bale being wasted...I honestly think that Gorr is one of my favorite MCU villains. They could have done more with him, for sure, and I don't know why they didn't given how short the run time is relatively speaking (meaning that they had time to do more), but I was more annoyed at them cutting out the subplot of Valkyrie looking for a queen than anything. What we got of Gorr was, IMO, quite strong. Gave him a background that made his actions understandable without making them defendable, and he was quite intimidating every time he was on screen for me.

Superman Returns is the worst and the most boring of not only the live-action Superman movies, but of nearly all things Superman in general. I don't like Superman III, but at least I wasn't too bored, and Superman IV had Nuclear Man. Superman Returns is a pretentious slog that makes Superman unheroic, has nothing interesting to say, and is all nostalgia pandering to people who only believe the Reeve's incarnation is all that matters. The movie was made by an asshole hebephile, who hates all things comic book, bar maybe one exception.
I tend to defend Superman returns, but overtime Ive come to realize I like "the idea" of Superman Returns more than the movie itself. Theres a cut scene I think improves the movie. It shows him finally reaching Krypton and it just being dust in space. This kinda breaks him which explains why hes so emo the whole film at least until he realizes he has a kid. Without this scene the tone of the film makes Superman kind of a weird dick.

Still it has other problems, lois is profoundly unlikeable, the pacing is problematic, etc. My opinions on the players involved never impacts my opinion on the films themselves though. I cant really just hate everything Singers touched.

Speaking of bad Superman movies, theres a cut scene on YouTube from Superman IV, appearantly there was gonna be an act where Lex Luther first tried to clone Superman but ends up making Bizarro who promptly gets wrecked by Superman. Lex, uses that experiment for the test run of Solar Man or whatever the main baddies name was. Supposedly it was cut because they ran out of money during filming and had to finish the film with 0 money which explains why it looks like shit. Bums me out cause I think that would have made SMIV a better film. Its not a painful watch, but I think SMIII ends up being more entertaining, if fundamentally a worse film.

Despite all of issues and what was cut, I would still take IV over III. III over does it on the comedy and makes it one of the rare times where I don't like the character Richard Pryor plays as. Most the jokes don't land, and I am bored or rolling my eyes. My parents have a soft spot for III, but only for Pryor and not much else. IV at least has some bad ass moments and is the more entertaining bad.

Superman Returns is boring, yes, but is also forgettable, which makes it superior to some other Superman films.

OTOH, yeah, both the director and one of the main stars have had serious accusations made against them.

Not to me, and not much of a milestone. If my parents hate Superman Returns (with my dad forgetting it even exists), then you know Singer fucked up.

Fits this thread enough I guess -
I haven't watched the video yet, but a lot of comedies don't do it for me anymore, either because they try so hard to either gross out, be too lazy, or go super hard on the lamp shade hanging/meta material . I do find it funny that there are kids cartoons of today (and many from the past) that can make me laugh, yet most of these live action comedies can't do that.

Hmmm, I don't really buy it. He might as well have named the video "Why Police Squad is Good". I thought there would be a section where he actually analyzed modern shows and there really wasn't. Hell, he didn't bring up any other classic shows besides Police Squad.

I don't even particularly disagree with him, but that is one hell of a clickbait title.

It was more just about pointing out the contrast between today’s more prevalent lewd and crude brand of comedy vs the well-timed and wittier, but often still absurd stuff found in something like Police Squad.

Okay so what's the deal with the new little mermaid being black? Like...who cares? Its a made up story, mermaids aren't real. Why are people getting bent out of shape over the skin color of a fictional being?
I don't recall anyone getting pissy about the centaurs in Harry Potter being British instead of Malaysian. Because you know...made up.

Evidently, the "I'm not racist, but" crowd, which comes as very little surprise, they aren't spending all of their time complaining about PoC in Rings of Power.

Partly racists, partly dumbdumbs, partly dumbdumbs who are sticklers for "the source material".

Those idiots were freaking out about this when the rumor leaked four or five years ago.

Its so weird because there is no source material. Its a fake story. Its not like they've cast a black woman to play...I dunno, Napoleon.
Ariel is a mermaid. A fictional creature. It can have whatever skin tone it wants.

You forget these are the same people that don't want to see any of us the positive, nor understanding light. Racist and sexist jack asses like that, only want to see us as "funny", negative stereotypes or shallow villains.

Well, technically there IS source material since the story was written by Hans Christian Anderson but beyond the title, I don’t think the Disney story includes much from it.

Hot take: all movies going forward should be monoracial, but the caveat is that each movie needs a version shot for every race. Then, when the next superhero film or Disney live-action remake tips a trillion dollars in production costs, everyone who complained that "Arial isn't black" will sit down and shut the fuck up. Oh, and let's not forget our LGBTQ+ friends; you lot get movies too. Can't wait to see how the "all black and gay" Sleeping Beauty stacks up against its "all Asian and transgender" counterpart.

I bet the people complaining about Ariel being black would have less issue with Napoleon being a mermaid.

(Actually, now I want to see that movie)
