Sadly believable.
Many guys fetishize lesbians and usually confuse them with bisexual women. "Wow, they're so slutty, I bet they'd let me do anything to them!". Actual lesbians (who, by definition, aren't interested in having sex with men) usually become "man-hating ugly bitches that no guy wants to fuck" even though the man saying that was just trying to get into her panties.
I was trying to think back if I have ever played or chosen not to play as a gay character, and the closest that I can think of is that I never explored any of the gay relationships in Mass Effect. I'm not big into hero shooters so I really can't imagine having such a choice to make. Anyway, while I don't particularly doubt the claims being made in the article, I think it does a pretty horrible job of describing this study. One of the guys who conducted the study wrote this piece, so I'm kinda confused why it contains so little information. I guess they would prefer if people paid to read the full study?
I never really had a favorite GTA protagonist. If I had to guess it was Tommy and then Niko. Though I liked Tommy more, because he was played by Ray Liotta.

I guess it depends on you consider LIara a gay character or not, since she'll bed either version of Shep(which I guess makes her canonically bisexual. Maybe?).
Speaking of which, I wish Tali was femshep romancable. I know there's a reason for her not to be but at the same time....gimme my quarian waifu, damnit!
Isn't she in 3? I can't recall if I played femshep or not when I did Tali route.
Call it cis hetero white male privilege if you want but I really couldn't give a flying fuck about a character's sexuality.
