The only good thing can say about whenever these right-wing assholes come up and start this shit, a majority of either fans/creators from either "competing" IPs tell the fuck-nuts to screw off, get a life, and leave everyone else alone. We've seen this with Tsushima and TLOUS II (it was very heartwarming to see fans of either IP or both ban together to fight cruel hatred) and so on.
Oh, the Mario movie has far from totally won them over. They were already mad when the trailer made it clear Peach wasn't going to just be a damsel in distress and plenty of them are speculating

These idiots either don't know or forget that Peach has fought with Mario in (or against in Smash Bros. I don't care if the game is considered "non-canon". Most of them would not give shit either for petty reasons.) Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D World. The latter of which is just a expanded remake of 2. In adapted media, Peach has stepped up to bad ass and either to save Mario, Luigi, or both of the plumbers in either the first cartoon or the comic book adaptions that came out in the 90s. All of which you can still buy in either book stores, media stores, or on Amazon for a cheap or good price. These assholes don't know shit, will do anything to be contrarian or ignore obvious evidence for sake appealing shallow assholes as bad as them or barely worse.

It's also hilarious that the right get absolutely froth at the mouth angry when even vaguely leftist politics (note by this I mean things as innocuous as "woman is competent" or "gay person exists") but fundamentally miss how much classic sci-fi was like super overtly left leaning. Star Trek, notable authors like Philip K. Dick and JG Ballard, most popular sci-fi from decades past would be considered woke propaganda now.
That's the thing: they themselves are either that stupid or ignorant, or are banking on their echo chamber fan base to also be just as stupid, ignorant, or completely unaware. Usually even more so.

And that's all it pretty much is. Whether Sonic, Alita, Ghost of Tsushima, Minions, or The Super Mario Bros. Movie are good is another discussion, but these reactionaries only seem to enjoy them as supposedly counter to supposed wokeness. Once the hype of the release has died down so does their actual interest in these properties. I doubt Minions: The Rise of Gru has remained a beloved movie among reactionaries circles, but they sure did love pitting it against Lightyear and Strange Worlds.
