I mean, part of me wants to get the jokes out of the way "WELCOME TO THE INTERNET. its been like this since 1995 or so" and obligatory "Lol at trying to train porn AI on bethesda voice acting".

Serious concern, but whatever Nexus policies are aside, tough to legally pursue, because parody and all that. And theres no legal distinction (at least yet) between a person imitating a VA for NSFW stuff and a computer doing it (other then a person woudl probably do a better job), unless the mod is literally claiming the VA said those lines. Bethesda could probably hit them for some copywright/eula violation for the game audio files in their training data, but thats probably way under their radar level.

Well, I mean, there's mods out there now that just splice existing voice files. Where's the line on that?

That would just be direct sampling at that point which is pretty extensively (After various cases in the 1990s surrounding hip hop music) defined as infringing if the material is still under any kind of copyright without express contract or license (such as Creative Commons) with the original.

Which would probably still be up to Bethesda as the rights holders to pursue as a copyright or EULA violation. I'd be highly surprised if the actual VAs or their own agents have any actual ability to litiagate over their performance audio.

They'd also have difficulty legally pursuing it as some kind of fraud/impersonation/misrepresentation as well. Since the mods in question are likely "(whatever the characters name) Dirty talk XL" or something, and not "Jennifer Hales talks you off" or something like that

It's the movie adaptations that are still facing an uphill battle.
Not really. We got Rampage, Sonic 2, and Mario Bros. (2023). The uphill battle has been over on both ends. Nobody on TV nor the Movie side have excuses anymore not to try. Then there is that Streets of Rage movie in production. Still waiting to see a trailer on that.

I think most tv adaptations of video games will be fine if recent history is anything to go by.
Yeah, but each side will have a stinker every now and then. The Halo TV series, and the Netflix live-action Resident Evil TV series that was cancelled after one season.

It's more along the lines of design by committee development. Will this new AAA game have adaptation material that we can use for expanded universe materials so we can push our comics and tv shows because we own subsidiaries.

It's the kind of stuff that killed creativity in anime along with an ever stricter censorship board

I was still in HS when the infamous PSN hack happened; I did hear some of my friends talking about it, but didn't think it was such a big issue (I was on Xbox). But holy shit, personal and credit card info DDOS, AND not doing anything about it?

I'm glad sony seems to be doing better job at managing PSN these days (at least preventing attacks like this), but that recompose of one free month of PSN subscription and two free game download seems really lackluster

Thanks for the article. It's been known since the early 2000s that the Sega Saturn was always meant to be a 2D powerhouse instead of a 3D. It's one of the few things I hate about the 3D movement throughout the mid-late 90s and 2000s. The whole, "2D is dead and not worth the investment anymore." The XBLA and Indie scene in the late 2000s showed how full of crap certain people in the game it public work, the journalist, and those in charge of publishing or developing themselves. Since the post XBLA era and Steam really taking off, any type of game could get made now. Any.

Sure, but the resurgence of 2D in the indie boom of the late 00s is not any kind of indication that a 2D powerhouse Saturn would've succeeded, or at least fared better than it did, in the mid 90s market. Notably because the platforms those indies boomed on could do any kind of game, from minimalist 2d indies to opulent prestige AAA, not just one or the other. Nothing about the mid 90s console market I've learned tells me that a 3D focus was anything other than the correct way forward commercially, at least at the time. So in that respect the 3D movement was right. But even if a 2D Saturn could've succeeded, that probably wouldn't have solved all the other problems Sega had.

I wasn't advocating that, just pointing out how full of crap we arguments in excuses were against 2d. I know the move to 3D was the right call to move forward, but I got sick and tired of the whole you don't want this, you want that argument. You want whatever gets us more money!

I wasn't arguing that either. I know Sega had a lot of financial struggles and just plain dumb decisions, regardless of the Saturn's success or not.
