I mean specifically the fighting with another forum member. By my own admission, I didn't even want to, but I did it anyway. That's my fault, regardless of anything else.

But let me just append one other thing for @Hawki just to put a cap on this: can you not bring 'people said PVE was cancelled and doesn't exist in OW2' up again? Everything's been said on the subject that's gonna be, and I don't think anyone here, least of all the two of us (though I suppose I can only really speak for myself), wants to keep riding this zombie horse any longer.
A strange request. You could simply ignore Hawki whenever he gets on his soapbox about the subject.

Fair enough.

I didn't realize you still haven't played God of War 4 yet. Funny enough, I traded it and Ragnarok for my AC6 pre-order.
I have played it, but I haven't finished it. Last I left off, I'm pretty sure that I was working on getting the gate to Helheim open? Somewhere around there. There was a giant corpse in a snowfield, too.

I finished No More Heroes III (PS5) a little half hour after midnight. A good game, but it does have some problems. The combat while fun is janky (the perfect dodges don't always work like you want to and the timing is finnicky), and streamlined to be more limiting. Travis no longer has his punch & kick beat/stun attacks. He doesn't get the decent amount of swords attacks featured in the prequels. High and low stance? Gone. Picking up a downed enemy off the ground? Somewhat gone, but not completely forgotten, if you land the crazy throw roulette. Multiple swords types? Gone too, but to make up for it, Travis's sword size changes based on the type of attacks or ending attacks.

It does have a better open world and a more tolerable entry fee that is not crazy expensive (the currency for new moves and permeant stat upgrades is a different story), and it is easy to get fast money without grinding like crazy in the first game. I still prefer the second game's no entry fee, but at least Suda learned not be a dick this time in that regard. The open world is better than 1's, but it is not perfect either. Some sandboxes are better than others. I hate Call of Battle, as it's the worse one due to the horrible screen saturation and brown palette. We didn't need a pointless take that to COD or 7th gen gaming in 2021, when everyone been moved on, Suda! Most of the bosses are good, but I don't care for Omaha, and I hate how Kimmy's fight transitions with dumb wall lasers and camera screw. Henry is the best boss of course.

The soundtrack is fire, the story is gonzo crazy, and it's nice to Travis fully develop, but still be the foul mouthed fighter that has stayed the same in certain ways.

Venba, a cute little indie game that I finished in one sitting.

Basically, it's a cooking game that spotlights an Indian immigrant family's experience in Canada. It was well made, gorgeous, and had great sound design. But at the end of the day its maybe a one hour experience that did make me miss my mom, but beyond that I was just going through the motions.

It was a Gamepass thing, so no regrets. If you enjoy watching street food ASMR videos, this is for you.

The boring one
GTA 4. It's an average GTA-like, but it's okay. It belongs to one of the best GTA-like franchises, that I'd rank only below the Watch Dogs and Mafia (and Saints Row of course) series. Meaning it's miles better than other GTA-likes such as okay I don't know, I haven't played many, but I'm pretty sure there are worse ones.

Anyway, vroom vroom and also pew pew. And I'm still the worst virtual driver in the world, which tends to benny hill a lot of these games whatever the tone they were going for.

What GTA 4 are you referring to that it’s merely a “GTA-like”?

BG3 is finally done, and I feel I haven't discovered everything.

I feel for the first time in a very long, long, time, I got my money worth. Or probably because Diablo 4 left such a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't think I enjoyed a fantasy RPG this much since Dragon Age Origins. In fact, I think this is how that game would look like if there was a remake. The characters, the world-building and lore, the character builds and respec, the combat versatility, soundtracks, and the overall experience has been all superb.

The game is so good, I think once you start a new playthrough, you should finish it before checking out other games.

Now I'm off to Armored Core 6!

I've only been playing for like 60 hours so I haven't even gotten to Gate yet.

Failing the simple task to not post - Immortals of Aveum.

Gun is hand now!

or.

Hand is gun now!
?

Am a lil fascinated by how those two phrases can mean the same thing. Uhh. Umm. Ohh. Oh no. But must not be distracted! This feels like someone looked at the success of COD, looked at the success of God of War and thought "hmm what if smash together tho? Surely double profits?!" And you know what, if you go in expecting COD but magic, it will surprise a smidge. But if you go in looking for a masterpiece, ehhh let's settle those expectations down a bit there eh? I read Eurogamer review which was quite negative in their pattern of arguably snooty takes, but is still an interesting perspective I'll never agree with. The visuals, audio, performances and gameplay all feel great, I been shooting these chests just for the filthy primal desire of basking in their explosive shower of magic sparkles so much so it was over an hour in before I bothered looking at what bullshit they claimed they were giving me. Yes it's EA, but it's kinda the less shit side where some visible effort is put into a single player experience and I don't hate it. In a way it reminds a lot of that game Legendary, the Pandora's box game? One insignificant niggle is the environment has that typical unreactive behaviour most CODs campaigns have: everything you shoot is static, no physics here mate, sorry. Perhaps is why the chests feel so pleasing, being the few interactive parts of all this nonsense. It's bearable nonsense though. However, in the end, perhaps not quite at that modern release price.

Armored Core 6 is really cool, but kinda weird to control. Then again, its also been a bit since I played a controller game so I really just need to get used to a game that needs all the buttons.

My computer isn't really handling BG3 all that well, so I'll continue that when it comes to the PS5 (yay, crossplay). In the meantime, trying to finally actually finish a run on Darkest Dungeon.

But that would mean it’s just “GTA” minus the “like”.
No no, I still like it.

No, seriously. To spell it out : It's a whole genre now. And the irony is that GTA is far from the best franchise in that genre (actually I even forgot to mention The Saboteur, that could also qualify as a better one). When I'm in the mood for a GTA-like, some GTA isn't even my first choice. But still, it was dirt cheap, so I'm giving it a go.

There's something about having physical games that makes it so much easier to decide what to play. I really hadn't successfully latched on to another game since Ghost of Tsushima. I was just sorta wandering around my gameroom when I spotted a copy of Red Dead Redemption GOTY edition for Xbox One, I'd bought on sale and forgot all about. Infact being honest I bought an Xbox One on release, played Dead Rising 3 (massive hidden gem) and then put it in a closet and forgot about it. It's weird to fire up this old relic and see it still works. I'm getting so old it feels like Xbox One is as distant from modern gaming as SNES.

Not sure how I feel about RDR. The story opens very opaquely. I guess you're outlaw thats been released to go kill/capture an old partner? If this is explained in the intro I missed it. You just get escorted onto a train and the next thing you know you're demanding the surrender of an old school mate. I'm about an hour in and the story is essentially started with you offering to help a sheriff in return for assistance capturing your bestie...I think.

It's not quite wowing me. The controls are clunky as shit, but it appears to be GTA in the west which hopefully ends up being as compelling as GOT. I suppose we'll see.

Ahh…ok as a cheeky subversion, but technically wouldn’t it be more appropriate to use whatever one thinks as “best” example in the genre? As in, GTA4 is a decent Saboteur-like or whatever.

Same thing with Souls likes. There are probably a lot of people who find non-Souls games better examples of that sub genre, but we never hear of people labeling actual Souls games themselves as “Souls-likes”.

The basic gist of it is your character is blackmailed by the government into hunting down the last members of his gang in exchange for the safety of his family.

But if you check lists of soul-likes (or doom-likes, or roguelikes, or diablo-likes, etc), be them history lists or top 100, chances are iterations of the originals aren't omitted.
