Due to the company who's simultaneously translating The Ancient Magnus Bride announcing they're going to use Machine Translation, the ol' "idiots getting mad at localization" topic has been flaring up and I had some thoughts beyond "most of these are slight rewordings, please find some actual problems to be mad at"

Its of course a very good decision that the localised Engage doesn't let you marry the literal 10 year old. Still its funny that the part where the 17 year old main character can marry her 50 something year old mentor is still kept around. Its not AS bad as the Anna one but still kinda ew.

I mean, I *personally* think that scene is more in line with "child gets enamored with adult and adult plays along with no intention of following up" because otherwise that would be out there even for Japan, but I also don't want to be the PR guy trying to explain that nuance when conservatives start burning Switches and trying to ban Nintendo fron the States. Kind of a tough sell

If you defend Roe v. Wade being overturned you can seriously go fuck yourself. Not aimed at anyone specific ofcourse, just casually mentioning it into the aether. Fuck you!
It was objectively a shit ruling. It's precedent for allowing literally any medical procedures like cloning for example as the ruling was about right to privacy so whatever happens in the doctor's office is private and allowed. Even the fact that abortion was limited to 20-something weeks doesn't make sense, why is 15 week abortion private but a 30-week abortion is no longer private? The ruling made no sense even just applied to abortion let alone anything else. Roe v Wade wasn't actually about women's rights. Leave you emotions out of things.

Roe v. Wade would make harvesting sperm, eggs, skin cells or whatever else protected by privacy, meaning it would be the decision of the patient, which seems absolutely fine. What it would not do is make what is done with that harvest immune from legislation. Do you actually have a problem with the former? Because Roe v. Wade has nothing to say about the latter.

Why is the far right so much worse than the far left?
Do you actually, seriously need an answer to that question?

And this far right that's made of Nazis is actually a big enough percentage of the right to make actual Nazi shit happen?
Nazi shit is already happening. It isn't a simple dichotomy between death camps and everything being fine, there are intermediate political aims and there is also criminal action. Far right ideology is explicitly violent, it appeals to people to are attracted to violence and it includes a significant (and sometimes organized) criminal element. There are countless people out there who live in fear of far right violence and other forms of harassment, and who are dependent on legal protections which are currently being systematically eroded.

In short, you have an incredibly naive view of the political system and how discrimination actually works. Your assumption seems to be that until people are being gassed in camps everything is fine. Most of us have higher standards than that.

You can argue it affects both quite easy with Roe as precedent. Again, why would an abortion at 15 weeks be protected by privacy but not 30 weeks? It never made any sense.

So no actual argument... Gotcha

The far left is extremely dangerous as well.

And the increased crime caused by stupid far left policy isn't a thing? The people living in high crime areas that left policy keeps making even higher crime aren't living in fear of violence? Your assumption that your side causes no harm is very naive. One of the ways for this far right that you're so afraid to happen is from chaos and disorder, and the left is causing that to happen more than the right. I really don't understand why I have to keep repeating this over and over and over and over again, both the republicans and the democrats suck ass and why do any of you vote for any of them? I don't point out the issues the democrats have to sway anyone to vote republican, I do it for you to ask yourself why are democrats worth your vote? Just because they are better than the other side doesn't make them worth your vote.

The far left is extremely dangerous as well.
Unless you are the window in a bank or large corporate chain business, the far left are statistically no danger to you at all.

Even if we separate Islamism from the far right, the far right remains responsible for the vast majority of political violence, the vast majority of politically motivated killing and a significant amount of non-politically motivated killing (because, again, there's a significant overlap between the far right and organized crime). By contrast, you can count the number of deaths from far left extremist violence over the past decade on one hand. The far left doesn't intentionally infiltrate police departments and the military. The far left does not seek to influence or usurp the political system. The far left do not organize paramilitary training camps to learn how to conduct armed terrorism.

You, personally, may be more frightened of the far left than the far right. That is your right as an individual, but it is also extremely stupid and short-sighted. If someone is going to murder you for political reasons, it's far more likely to be some mentally deranged incel with a swastika painted on his rifle than anyone else. You are not safe from these people. Noone is.

And the increased crime caused by stupid far left policy isn't a thing?
The hell are you even talking about.

I don't know who you think the "far left" actually is, but in reality it comes down to revolutionary versus non-revolutionary politics. The far left don't have policy because they refuse to participate in a government they see as illegitimate. They are actual extremists who have given up on the ability of the political system to realize their goals, not people who are concerned because the cops keep murdering innocent people. That's a pretty normal concern to have, because cops killing innocent people kind of goes against what moderates believe the cops are supposed to be for.

One of the ways for this far right that you're so afraid to happen is from chaos and disorder, and the left is causing that to happen more than the right.
The far right, on a fundamental ideological level, view the modern world as disordered. Racial and sexual equality is disorder to them. Secularism is disorder to them. Democracy is disorder to them.

I realize this may be difficult for a self-appointed "centrist" to understand, but people do not all fundamentally want the same thing and not everyone is reasonable and well meaning.

that is an aspect at which Roe fell short; the rights of the one pregnant should be protected regardless of the age or any other fact about the fetus.

Yeah, don't you just hate the far left in a country in which one political party is right leaning and the other party is far right? And where both will band together like Voltron at the prospect of a socialist running for office?

"And I'll form the head."

"No, I'll form the head."

"No, I will."

Sorry, you really did make a good point. I just couldn't resist the chance for that joke.

And, less than 3 years ago, the far right attempted a coup? Is that not a big deal anymore?

It was a big deal when it was actually Antifa. Then it was a big deal when no actually it was CIA plants. Then when it was really just Trump supporters it was actually just a peaceful tour of the Capitol.

And honestly there's no lie in that - this is what peaceful Trump supporters look like.
