Baldur's Gate 3 still has me handcuffed to the bed and is having its way with me.
It looks like a game I'd enjoy. I just started Divinity II: Original Sin Definitive Edition and so far so good. Then I find out, Divinity II: Developer's Cut was made by the same people that made BG3 and D2:OS and it's been sitting in my Steam library untouched for a decade so I gave it a spin. It's OK, aged OK with visuals maxed out on PC but I'm thinking finish D2:OS and I'll likely pick up BG3 soon after. I love that I'm hearing people freak that BG3 is a fantastic game and great value with a ton of content and dang it, these stinkin fans better not expect that sort of thing from other developers, dang it!

Like this fellow, I too have made my 1st kill. Got a rabbit by kicking him.

Honestly, I don't know if I'd want other developers to follow along - BG3 has been burning my weeks to a cinder, and I'm starting to worry I'm losing my action gameplay retention having played a turn-based combat game for so long. 200 hours on the clock with this fucker.

Super Mario 3D World on Switch.

A bit on the easy side ( all of it aside from the last two levels, those were a bit more challenging ), but a fun game. Collected all green stars, all golden flags and all stickers that are available in levels. I'm not going to replay all levels with all different characters just for 4 stickers.

Holy... I've never ever played ANY game for 200 hours!!! I think the record might be Fallout 3 GOTY for about 150ish.

I finally finished that over Christmas. I felt a lot of the part of it in Baldur's Gate (the city itself) was less engaging, so I kept drifting off to play other things. I finally cleared it mostly because I wanted to uninstall it and free up the drive space for other stuff.

It's a funny thing peoples gaming habits, I look through this thread from time to time and am generally pretty taken back by the sheer number of different games people play. Like some people seem to be playing 3 or 4 different new games every couple of weeks. The number of games I've played compared to others here looks pretty miniscule, but the few games I have played a lot of will be hitting 500-1000+ hours.

That's kinda the rhythm when you play mostly indies and average a couple of hours a day. Without rushing things, pacing the game in narrative acts or chapters and taking my sweet time most indies take between 5 to 12 hours.

Back in the day I would spend whole Summers playing Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction or Kingdom Hearts or Tales of the Abyss or Dragon Quest VIII: The Cursed King. I clocked over 100 hours on DQ8. It's easy when you play something the size of an RPG or a sandbox. There was also no streaming or much of the internet to distract me either.

It's also possible I'm generally better/games are easier these days so I never get stuck in tricky parts anymore.

It is reallllllly annoying how outdated quite a lot of the content online about 2077 is. For such a popular game with a seemingly rabid fanbase, I still come across pre-2.0 guides and tips far more often than not.

In terms of combat, pre-2.0 sounds quite a bit more fun than what we currently have. It is bizarre to see CDPR do things like nerf certain abilities or weapons, because apparently that matters to their principles as devs. Like they envision a way they WANT you to play. That I wouldn't mind, but they also implemented changes like making all vendors share the same inventory and buy everything at the same prices. That seems like such a basic thing to have in an RPG, but apparently making sure the player can't be too (purposefully) OP was more important.

SkillUp said that the game is not a very good RPG but a great action game, and I have to agree. While there are some quests with branching paths where the player's choice matters, for the most part I'd say you are never really sure what the dialogue choices will bring you. I had already experienced this with Witcher 3, where I was squatting in the game's wiki while I played. That has been dialed up to an 11 here. When it comes to building your playstyle, I also feel so restricted. There is so much cool shit to miss out on if you stay away from Intelligence and Tech, to the point that you feel forced to invest in them.

I went through a bunch of false starts, and actually ditched a 50-ish hour playthrough because I hadn't played the game in a few months, felt out of it and decided to start from scratch. Also gave me the oppertunity to keep Gale in the gang this time. And with how frenquently I get sucked back into the character creator because I have a sudden idea for a certain character, this game just hoovers up my time.

The city itself feels a little overwhelming with how many people are suddenly around. This game is oddly structured in that sense. So far nothing has topped the Nightsong yet, though dame Aylin being in my camp doing nothing at all is a little disappointing. Even when Mizora starts hanging around camp you'd think this literal angel would have some comments on this, but no.

It always blows my mind when people say they have thousands of hours in anything. I’ve put over five hundred in at least two or three games over the years and even that sounds insane. But hey, it’s all about what continues floating one’s boat.

I don't recall if I've talked about this before but in my current Cyberpunk playthrough I've been playing as female V.

I am a dude. It's been a kind of fascinating journey of self-evaluation playing as female V. I do not particularly like female V. I find that a lot of the dialog options make her come off as demure in a way thats contradictory to her journey. It doesn't help that I made mine as a cross between Annie Lennox and Tank Girl. Idk she just sounds like she's about to cry half the time. I wish CDPR had broadened the dialog options a little. At the same time I wondered how much I'm playing myself as V and wanted her to be more masculine? But can't women be Masculine?

Last night I turned down the relationship options with River. I ..just don't see it. he's a nice enough person, but I was not attracted to him at all. His whole weird Final Fantasy look just put me off. I hate that earing so much. I found him cloying in a way that really bothered me. He gives you his gun, right before pressuring you into a relationship. I've done that and felt bad about it. It's a shitty guy thing to imo. Like giving somebody a gift when courting is normal, but when you go over the moon, its almost a guilt trip.

Again though I had to ask myself, do I just not want to do self-insert gay stuff? Idk, I found Jacky to be much more compelling for my female character to date though. Jacky was "fun" and I definitely found that attractive.

I like judy, but everybody likes Judy. I can't really fathom if its a self-insert thing, but I think Judys personality leans towards liking girls. I think that works.

Before I quit last night I started that post mission with Kerry and out of the blue, like no lead up it gives you the dialog option to kiss him. Man, immediate gag reflex, like ew no. Kerry sucks, like what aspect of any of his story would make me what to get with him girl or guy? buuuut again am I projecting?

Ultimately, I ended up with a kinda of Punk Lesbian and I'm struggling to internally resolve how much of that is me self-inserting or if that character is unrepresented in the game. I wanted Natasha Lyonne and I got Chloe Grace Moertz.

It's not really a surprise, though. People play heavily and produce a guide, then finish up and move on to other things - many not going back to their guide because the updates arrive after that point. But that guide now also is sitting there, potentially heavily accessed by players, recognised by the algorithmic gods as a top source so it keeps bumping players back to them even though they are out of date.

What annoys more are the vast plethora of superficial "me too" guides: crappy, low-rent, but glossily presented online magazines where contributors splurge some mostly useless bullshit in the hope of clicks. These seem mostly cribbed from other guides by people who haven't played the game thoroughly, or are just "here's some shit I found from a few hours play and I'm going to pass them off as the stuff you really need to find/do".

So Portal mod called Portal Reloaded just came out on steam. It serve as a in-between sequel between the two games.

I want to like this game, but it’s causing hard crash, forcing me to reboot my entire pc

Not really, hacking is what changed the most, it was super simple and pretty much boiled down to hiding in a corner while the hack did everything, if you want the same experience you can just drop the difficulty. The other build all had less skill that would change the gameplay, instead they just had more skill that would give you passive buff. The options in cyberpart really increased and most of them now have actual gameplay effect rather than just stats and there's impact from leveling your character skill.

Its true that tech is hard to pass up on, but you don't really have to fully invest in it, you get most of the impact from getting to 9 in it (the third stats from parts). 15 unlock two new cyberpart slots, but its unlikely that you'll fully fill all your slot til much later in game. 20 give yous + 50 cybemodification point, thats a lot early game, but not that much as the game progress. Int can be passed up on easily, hacking is fun, but you have to give up bullet time for it, and you need to heavily invest in int for it to actually get good. I'd say reflex is more useful for that air dash.

Just cracked 80 hours in Cyberpunk and cleared Phantom Liberty. I don't really know what to say at this point, this game has raised the bar in so many respects that I don't even know what standards to judge it by at this point. The story is excellent, and the wavering loyalties are incredibly well done. When the big choice came, I genuinely had to pause for a minute. In terms of visuals PL blows even the base game out of the water. Well, soon it's time to see how the expansion affects the ending.

I just can't believe how fucking massive this game is. I have like 6 quests left in my journal and I've cleared almost all of the sidegigs, and there's still a consistent stream of new stuff to discover. The only other singleplayer game I've played where a single playthrough has lasted longer than this has been Divinity Original Sin 2. But even that I feel isn't an entirely fair comparison, because it's a much slower-paced game with a shitton of inventory and skill management, so you're bound to spend a ton of time on it. Here I've barely touched my gear in like the past 20 hours, the playtime's mostly been actually doing things. And I'm probably going to start another playthrough after this if I don't hit burnout.

I'll say this though: the playstyle the game mostly feels like it pushes you to, ie. a stealth hacker build, is ridiculously busted for most of the game. I've been one-shotting normal enemies with silenced headshots for the past 10 hours, and the quickhacks trivialize most sidequests. But it's still fun in a pure power fantasy way, makes me feel like a cross between James Bond and Deckard from Blade Runner.

Started The Quarry.

It's surprisingly a 2K published single player game with zero monetization within, AFAICT. It's also a spiritual sequel to Until Dawn, which debuted on PS4. So far I've played the prologue and chapter 1, plus a bit of chapter 2. It's what you'd expect from a narrative, choice-based adventure. Lots of walking, point-of-interest prompts, linearity, etc. But it also has little details peppered about, like clues to gather, tarot cards, and other items that may possibly help along the way. Better effort to flesh out the world than Quantum Dream outputs at least. The presentation is also well done with a smooth interface.

Besides some navigational inconsistencies with camera angles in darkly lit, close quarter-ed areas already bogged somewhat by the slowish movement, my biggest complaint is that for a game relying heavily on the delivery of its story, some of these character models are awkward looking as hell. The big strength of the game is probably the potential for endings, with 186 of them. Outside of watching YouTube I'll probably only bother with one, since most of the characters so far are insufferable twats. Like the target audience was fresh into college-age dudebros. Still, being a horror fan the setting and plot are enough to hold my interest.

I concede I have a gamer's H.A.A.D.! Back in the day, an SNES cartridge was $50ish that, I usually didn't have. So you played the heck out of it. Now I can buy a Humble Bundle with 72 items for $30ish and have Netflix Syndrome (so many choices to choose a show you spend much more time looking at what is available than actually watching something). Epic just gave away a game a day for about 10 days straight, one weekly. Amazon Prime has Prime Gaming too. Other than casual games I can play while doing other stuff, I am pretty sure I spend as much time acquiring games and looking over my library as actually playing! Good problem to have! But I know I'm missing great stuff. I just did some more Divinity: Original Sin 2 and am finally starting to feel like something is happening and it is pretty special.

Really? I never got that from my V. Her voice to me more of sounded like between take charge and almost overly empathetic, but never crying. It always sounded like the voice of someone who had seen some shit, but could take it.

I think the overly empathetic part is what bothers me. Just seems like she gets choked up and emotional in nearly every conversation.
